Will the PS3 include component video cables in the box?
I'm not sure, but I think the answer might be "no."
Yeouch, that surprised me a bit. No HDMI thats fine, makes sense actually. But where the consoles are now I don't think its too much to expect a cable capable of HD. At least in the 360s release you got an HD cable on the more expensive version.
Listen, when I created RapeHer v1, I think people misunderstood what I was going for. I didn't create this video game to give people the experience of what its like to rape a woman, to feel her panic beneath you as dominate and violate her in a customizable number of ways thanks to my own CreateAHole feature. I created the game to create an open discussion of rape in a civilized society. Anyone who takes anything away from it but that is missing my point entirely.
Look... I don't care that he created the game. I'm a fan of tasteless jokes, racist jokes, jokes about anything that is awkward, making fun of a situation is how i deal with those type of situations. BUT if so you have to be upfront about why he did it. I 100% think its a lie that he was trying to create "a sociological critique or a deconstruction of the form." Come out and say, look it was a horrible event but I thought it'd make for an interesting game to play with my friends and once it was online it blossomed from there. He doesn't have to excuse himself for what that kid did, any rational person (read slashdot reader) understands media won't make someone kill like that. At the same time to come out in an interview all high and mighty, acting that his game was misunderstood yada yada is just BS.
Oh whatever PS3, my toaster runs calculations to discover a cure for AIDs. My freaking alarm clock is working out the solution to the problems in the Middle East. And my gosh darn massage chair just got an invitation to give a speech at Harvard's graduation ceremony in 2007 on the subject of New Economics in the 21st Century.
Oh right but yeah my ps3 is working on cancer... whateva. Let me know when it starts mowing the lawn. Now that I could use in a gaming system.

A lot of posts on here seem to be poking fun at people who are afraid of the terrorists. Or now afraid of doing things they used to normally do. Are you sure this is the case or are you just regurgitating what the press is telling you? More likely than not, its the latter.
Are any of you really afraid of being killed in some sort of terrorist attack? I think you have to be really paranoid to actually feel that fear. Do you know anyone who is? I don't... and I'm in DC constantly, we were attacked, and no one really seems to worry much.
You want to be angry at the politicians, both sides, fine, please be so. BUT pay attention to who's actually hyping up the fear. The goddammn media. Left or right, this isn't about Fox News or Air America, this is about all of them wanting more ratings and more advertising dollars, by telling you that you should be afraid because everyone else is afraid, so you must watch this channel so you'll know what to be afraid of next and how to avoid it!
"Terrorists have poisoned something YOU may have in your house right now... we'll tell you what in just a bit." Do you know ANYONE who doesn't laugh at the absurdity of that? If you do, then please tell your retarded friend I'm sorry. The rest of this "widespread fear" you hear about is nothing more than the media trying to tell us what we should all feel.
Its too bad really... freedom of the press is a great ideal to stand behind, but right now... its just a bastardized concept like government by the people. You want to talk about political corruption, lets talk about the media...

Hopefully I'm not bashing anyone because obviously its just how i feel. But the Wii is the console I really really want my friends to buy. I want to go over there and I want to sword fight for an hour and then I want to come home and settle into some Dead Rising on my 360... and heres why.
I think the wii-mote is a really cool idea. Similar to ideas in the past, the power-glove, the fishing-rod, the gun. But so much more so and can definitely be used in interesting ways. My apparent (i haven't touched anything yet) problem with it is that when i want to play video games I want to sit down on my couch, put my feet up and unwind. I fear that with the wii-mote you'll be forced to move around! Oh no. What if i just want to sit there but the sword game I'm playing requires me to be all active and crap.
Eh maybe it won't be a problem, but as i said, I really want my friends to get one.
Well, if you don't want to run Cat-5 cable all over your house to connect your 360 to the internet you'll need the $100 wireless adapter (or a 3rd party wireless bridge, they all cost between $70-$100).
That's probably why Sony decided not to include an HDMI cord, because people who use HDMI are quality freaks and they'll NEVER use stock out-of-box cables and they probably have a bunch laying around anyway.
So Microsoft was dumb for leaving out a wireless adapter to save money. But Sony made the right move by leaving out the HDMI cable to save money. Come on, they're scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit there.
I mean i own a 360, and enjoy it, but I realize the PS3 is going to great too. I don't need to rip one to make the other look better. They each fill their tiny niche space well enough.
And to be honest, I've never heard that before, it definitely could be true... buuut he ran the same scheme at Image. He runs the same scheme with his action figures. So my guess would be that he was upset that Marvel was profiting from it, so he left to make his own money.
Its hard to argue against McFarlane being one of the reasons the comic bubble burst in the middle to late 90s.
I can't wait until they release the game in five limited-edition, sparkling covers, with another five limited-edition online add-ons. Collect all 25!!!
Then of course there will be no resale value if you've actually opened the game...
Yes, as far as I know you can't send HD over a composite cable. You need HDMI, DVI, or component. And even then, pardon my ignorance, I'm not sure if you can send 1080p over component... very possible though i'm just not sure.
As a side rant the whole HDMI cable scene just seems like a debacle. $60-$80+ at best buy for a HDMI cable. I've found them at amazon for $7! Now, I'm sure that its a lower quality product, but we are talking digital right? Either it gets there or it doesn't, its not like the $7 cable sometimes sends 2s and 3s instead of 0s and 1s.
Best Buy in my area was offering a deal where if you purchased a Samsung TV + Xbox 360 + controller + Madden 07 you got $300 off. Since I was in the market for 3 out of the 4, I went ahead and bought them all, then turned around and traded Madden on CraigsList.
Thats it. Just wondering if some deals/specials like this drove the sales up slighty.
You really do seem to be under the impression that tha IAU have performed something other than linguistic sleight of hand by confusing it with real scientific discovery.
Of course this is nothing other than defining a word. What else could it be? You arguing with people trying to make the "intelligent point" that its nothing but "linguistic sleight of hand" is the equivalent of you arguing with a 4-year old over the non-existence of God. Whats your point? Just trolling? Fine be on your way...
All they've done is define a word, "planet". It has no impact to you and I. Some scientists, running models and simulations of the solar systems may now change or in the future omit pluto as a calculation they need to include. Believe it or not models are designed with such specifications as "tracing the orbits of planets," in those cases Pluto may now be omitted.

I apologize in advance if I'm being ignorant. But doesn't this kill the term DVR/PVR. Everything will be TiVO now right?
I'm seeing it as anything related to time shifting television must be licensed from Tivo. Maybe its a D* receiver maybe its an E* receiver, they all go back to TiVO.
Eventually all the slashdotters that are applauding the ruling will coin the word "T$vo", T$vo will not provide updates fast enough, will not work with enough peripherals, and will cost to much. Hackers will learn the ins and outs, and recorded programs will be lost to worm and virus attacks. T$vo will, of course, be blamed. An underground movement will start, an open-source solution if you will, but in this case it will be illegal, since if it relates to time-shifting... you owe T$vo money.
Yeah I guess I agree in a sense. I'm not so sure the show promotes selfish behavior so much as thats been a proven technique to win, but who knows what they're editting out ya know?
And it seems like so far the winner of the show is either the most selfish/backstabbingist person OR someone who made no moves what-so-ever and just squeeked in by not being noticed. Those situations actually tick me off more, I'd rather some jerk who played win over someone who was just there for fun.
But to add to that, something i didn't mention in my first post, was that kind of adds to my intrigue of the show. Some people really pride themselves on playing an ethical game. Others don't, they'll lie, swear on their children, whatever they possibly can to win. It makes it more like a real society in my eyes. And looking at the past winners, there hasn't been one proven method that works. (Though I think you're probably right, in that lying and backstabbing will get you further on average).
Survivor is the one reality show I really like, and have consistently since the first season.
It works so well, in my opinion, because of the length of the "season" and the isolation of the players. It starts out, I assume, like any other reality show; with everyone acting awkward. The loud obnoxious person making an ass of him/her-self. The shy ones hiding out in the background. But over the weeks (the show lasts 39 days i think) as the field whittles down, more of eveyone's true personality comes out and eventually I think it gets as "real" as reality tv can get.
Add to that the fact that it requires a combination of physical and mental strength to win. Winning all of the challenges will certainly get you there, so will aligning with the proper people and really manipulating them. What comes off as bitchy/asshole-ish in other reality shows, really could win you the game in Survivor.
Unfortunately I still hear a lot of people lump Survivor in with any other reality show: The Bachelor, Big Brother, American Idol. But whatever, we don't all have to like the same stuff.
