I must agree to something that Mozilla being free is misunderstanding. AOL paid (sunk?) amazing money to Mozilla. While JWZ hates them, they should listen to his comments which turned to be right. Who still hosts Mozilla.org?
What I would like to know, how does SA scale? About a year ago a talked to my ISP about it and they said they could not use it as it did not scale well and could not handle big loads.
It would be nice if it could be implemented now as I personally receive about 1000 spam messages a week.
Actually in Holland, Small Bussinesses are looking more and more into OSS, because of the costs.
I work for a company which does remote administration of these boxes (eg Netware, *nix, Windows) and we receive a lot more questions regarding free *nix these days.
Linus and Alan Cox aren't mentioned. Surely having the distros agreeing is one thing but if Linus and Alan change things within the kernel this would render the LSB pointless.
You are forgetting that the Linux which to
which you are referring is actually GNU/Linux.
Linus and Alan have nothing to do with the
GNU part (ok, they have something to do with it but not in this particular case). The LSB doesn't describe the API of
the kernel; it describes for example how
files are being layed out across the filesystem
Although I refuse putting a Windows box directly on the internet (and btw neither a linux-box) even for home use, I know a lot of people who do.
Especially all the unaware homeusers like my landlord for example. For systemadmins it already difficult to keep up to date with all the patches even with the various *update programs, at least they are firewalled
And yet they (the homeusers) are the most vulnerable!
And Microsoft proclaimed this was its most secure OS ever.
That would be funny if you used follow-mouse-focus and accidently moved the mouse to your suided xterm and hit enter without looking at the screen;-)

IE isn't *that* bloated. It exists of a lot of modular components. There is *no* integration (as in sharing codebase) between Messenger and IE except for a COM plugin concept.
Did you install realplayer? Did you see the icon appear in your toolbar.
Mozilla has teh necessary hooks for this. Go write your own plugins if you want to have them "integrated"
Playing games with it probably helps to improve the OS and its code.
Hackers are playing games with their (and others, but nevermind;)) code, just to learn from it and to push it to its limits. Otherwise you woulnd't get any security updates, because no-one would be looking at it. You would get real games like Quake 3, if they wouldn't have played with the code.
At school you probably learned while playing didn't you?

Besides that, I wonder this means they (=Brinkhorst) is actually going to vote or will abstain which would basically mean yes.
Although not a mpping service, I have made something like it (with the map) here. It uses a xml, xslt combination

works best with mozilla, ie works too but the browser has too many bugs

Ahhh now I understand why they say the TCO of Windows is lower than Linux'...

Hey, where they informed of the /. effect, before the story got posted?

Good internationalization support. Contrast this with the Linux-run Google.
I'll bite: Google has one of the best internationalization support of all sites I have encountered. See this page
I have actually gotten TV-out to work on my Radeon (Mobility M9 - I think - Dell C610)
leave a msg if you want to know how (dont have the details here)
Ok I did not read the article yet ,but I always thought the UK was part of the EU (not the EMU though)?
Of course authors still have to comply with the act - they just don't have to see it mentioned in the new form
/. is US based, but the DMCA does not go beyond its borders.
Not unless you live in the US. Seriously, I know
mpeg4ip streams mpeg4 stream, works best in comination with Darwin Streaming Server

me! me! me! me! I *do* have an opinion!
Now what was it about again?
80 ch * 40 ch * 8 bits * 1s = 25600 bits/sec which is uncompressed and means a full screen update every second.
;-)
I might be wrong though

I thought just the webfrontends are running a version of Windows & IIS, the backend is still FreeBSD.
Or did they change that by now?
