    works best with mozilla, ie works too but the browser has too many bugs

    I must agree to something that Mozilla being free is misunderstanding. AOL paid (sunk?) amazing money to Mozilla. While JWZ hates them, they should listen to his comments which turned to be right. Who still hosts Mozilla.org?

    What I would like to know, how does SA scale? About a year ago a talked to my ISP about it and they said they could not use it as it did not scale well and could not handle big loads.

    It would be nice if it could be implemented now as I personally receive about 1000 spam messages a week.

    Actually in Holland, Small Bussinesses are looking more and more into OSS, because of the costs.

    I work for a company which does remote administration of these boxes (eg Netware, *nix, Windows) and we receive a lot more questions regarding free *nix these days.

    Linus and Alan Cox aren't mentioned. Surely having the distros agreeing is one thing but if Linus and Alan change things within the kernel this would render the LSB pointless.


    You are forgetting that the Linux which to
    which you are referring is actually GNU/Linux.
    Linus and Alan have nothing to do with the
    GNU part (ok, they have something to do with it but not in this particular case). The LSB doesn't describe the API of
    the kernel; it describes for example how
    files are being layed out across the filesystem

    Although I refuse putting a Windows box directly on the internet (and btw neither a linux-box) even for home use, I know a lot of people who do.
    Especially all the unaware homeusers like my landlord for example. For systemadmins it already difficult to keep up to date with all the patches even with the various *update programs, at least they are firewalled

    And yet they (the homeusers) are the most vulnerable!

    And Microsoft proclaimed this was its most secure OS ever.

    IE isn't *that* bloated. It exists of a lot of modular components. There is *no* integration (as in sharing codebase) between Messenger and IE except for a COM plugin concept.
    Did you install realplayer? Did you see the icon appear in your toolbar.

    Mozilla has teh necessary hooks for this. Go write your own plugins if you want to have them "integrated"

    I thought just the webfrontends are running a version of Windows & IIS, the backend is still FreeBSD.

    Ok i'll bite....

    Playing games with it probably helps to improve the OS and its code.

    Hackers are playing games with their (and others, but nevermind ;)) code, just to learn from it and to push it to its limits. Otherwise you woulnd't get any security updates, because no-one would be looking at it. You would get real games like Quake 3, if they wouldn't have played with the code.

    At school you probably learned while playing didn't you?
