In the correct sense of the word "hackers", they are absolutely right. Microsoft aims to make thier apps so "easy to use" that they eliminate the need (and the ability) to hack things. Their goal is to sell to average desktop users and average business owners, so that they can do things without having to hack and tweak with things. This is the reason Microsoft is so successful.
Unfortunately this "dumming down" produces many security holes, runtime errors, and eliminates the freedom we enjoy with Unix/Linux/BSD. This business model also moves software away from the 31337 h4x0r$ like us, and makes it nice and shiny and "easy."
This is fine, and useful, however the problems are: Many MS programs are notoriously bug ridden (IE, IIS, Exchange, Windows, etc.) In thier quest for global domination, the code is top secret, and the programs loose much of their hackability. It is a good analogy to say it is "like a car with its hood welded shut."
If Open Source is good for for the militaries (not just the US's), the militaries and their billions of dollars of research will be very good for open source. Most of our beloved geek stuff like the internet had its beginnings in military research.
Besides, wouldn't it be cool if the Recuiting games like AA, were made for Linux?
They have every piece of annoying software installed on there 500Mhz computer. From Yahoo Toolbar, to some WeatherBug thing, to Gator, CometCursor... As a Linux guy, and techie in general, it makes me sick whenever I wonder how much spyware is on that box. Of course they think these things are useful!
Before I installed W2K, the time it took for Windows 98 to boot was astronomical. P.O.S.O.S.
That is true. Never thought too much of that. I hate how in the Windoze world everything is mixed together.
Unix stuff has the simple beauty of having its pieces do one thing, and do it well. I think this is a good concept with software. It also reduces security holes. (Think of IE being a browser and the GUI shell!)
I am a home user/college student (Computer Engineering major) I have been happily running Linux since about 1999 sometime. I have used mostly Red Hat, and have been with it since 6.0. (Athought I have used several other distros) (Also, Cant wait for Gentoo:)
Anyway, I received Red Hat 8.0 and tried it. I really did not like it. so I did and "rm -rf/" (Always wanted to try that) and reinstalled 7.3 I love 7.3, it works like a champ even on my laptop (winmodem and all), and I have it configured great. I see no reason to discontinue support for at least 7.3. I will be sad when it goes. (But maybe, by then...Gentoo!?)
I got a C-64 for Christmas a year ago, and I need a video cable to get it working. (A DIN to RCA I believe)
If anyone has one laying around, and would like to help my room at Walla Walla College become a hub of nostalgic computer geeks playing Richtofen's Revenge, please let me know (slashdot @@@@ ArthurK.com)
About Klez not affecting home users: Bu11$hit. My parents got it (by hotmail/yahoo I believe) Fortunately, I was able to clean it off with Symantec's tool.
I also received it (By Outlook):( Since outlook tends to load script shit, even from a preview pane, it tried running it, and my Virus scanner was no up-to-date. It was easily fixed, but It caused me to divorce Outlook for good. Actually I am happy, because that ended a crutch for my Windows addiction. Now I do all email in Linux!!!
Besides saving email in plain text is a hell of a lot better than some damn encrypted.PST file which is unportable (Though I think Mozilla can import those to some extent now.)
I have 3 domains registered with them, I am very happy with their service. They personally reply within about 1/2 hour to their emails, and they have a nice control panel. A hell of a lot better than the email-forms/domain-bondage nazi registrar named Verisign. I'm glad I switched.

There was an episode of Urkle where that happened to him. Pretty funny, that guy always was.

IE is not usefull buddy. Sorry
That should be enough for anyone to have a BSOD.
As a computer scientist, I want to be attacked over mIRC.

How does 12 pages of Philosiphy take 3 hours to read?
"Back in college (1991), I wondered why no one had bothered to make a DOS-based game console."
Because DOS sucks! My God, they dont even have tab-completion (Natively, at least)
I wonder what it will look like in 100 million years.

I hate to say it, but ours was also. (Native Americans, etc.) Still, doesn't mean its right. But I think that our nation owes an appology.
I think I will patent the litigation process, so that no one can sue, except with my permission...
Muhahahaha!!!!!
I definitley dont want that GPL'd!
