There are those who say that if a designer (or in this case design company) has the time to work on their own stuff then, they're not getting enough work, and must not be good enough.
If that is true or not, is up for debate. This company, with a portfolio of just 3 clients, one of which is their own site, probably doesn't have that problem.
This is true; however, I think it's good for Linux (and Open Source) to remain in the public eye and the public consciousness. Almost everyone I know, even non computer users and not so technically savvy people, has at least heard of Linux, even if they don't know what it is. They haven't heard of Ret Hat, or Mandrake, or even Lindows. Any intelligent marketing campaign for any of the distros would use this to their advantage. i.e. "Red Hat; powered by Linux" Just look at how successful this type of marketing has worked in the past. "Intel Inside" has helped sell many no-name computers. Destroying or obscuring what has be come the Linux brand would only hurt Linux and Open Source in general.
Another reason it would only be a bad thing for Linux and Open Source to obscure Linux from the masses. If there were one dominant Linux distro, wouldn't many other distros be tempted to emulate what that distro is doing? This would be just as bad as distros trying to look and act like Windows. Just a thought.
I've been a guitar player for more than 7 years, while I've never used their strings, I'm certainly going to consider them next time I need new strings.
I've sent them an email letting them I had read the article and will be looking at their products. Hopefully more companies will do this and pass the savings on to their customers.
In other news:
The search for the value of Pi, which has been computed since 2000 BCE starting with the ancient Babylonians, has ended. Earlier today William Gates, CEO of Microsoft, the creators of the Windows operating system, announced that Microsoft had solved this age old problem. Microsoft has decided to include this new, more accurate value of pi in each new copy of Windows. Windows users are encouraged to upgrade as soon as possible, as their mathematical computations will now be incorrect. It is rumored that the value of pi included in this new version of windows, called Windows Pi, is equivalent to 3.14.
The fastest desktop claim is based on two 64 bit processors. In order to extract that >4GHz performance, the program you are running will have to be optimized for 64bit dual processor computing. It won't run every application that fast.
The good thing is, all the major apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, etc.) will have to be ported to 64bit. Hopefully this will give 64bit computing on the PC a boost too.
That is assuming that the artist earns royalties. What royalties, if any, depends on the contract they sign. Many new artists opt instead for an upfront lump sum because royalties may take years to add up, if ever. If this is the case the artist might not make any money from radio play, CD sales, etc.
Royalties that artists do get are often $0.75 per CD or so, and often don't start accumulating until they've sold a certain number of copies (something like 200,000). Divide this between a 5 person band and you have $0.15 per person.
Unless you're a single person superstar or a band like Metallica, touring and merchandise sales are where you make your money in the music biz.

"The VRX 2000 is a real time acetate cutting machine, allowing any audio source to be duplicated on to vinyl."

Anyone else wondering why they decided on porn music for the video clip advertising this? (here http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/images/Web1.mov)
Maybe gamers (who this is aimed at) also need extreme memory for their porn too.

Finally maybe there will be a cheaper mainstream version of the Bonsai Kitten! I can't wait to get mine.
How fast an x86 processor will this take? There seemed to be no mention of processor beyond soimply "x86 compatible".
