You're a Korean company and you want to sell your product in the US and you want the (predominately US) programmers who read Slashdot help you sell your product here. In the midst of a serious economic downturn with many of us unemployed.
SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) suits are illegal and Washington was the first state to make them illegal. Use google to read up on them and how you and your lawyer might use anti-SLAPP laws to keep the school district off your back. A friend of mine critized a public agency, they sued him, lost, then he countersued on the basis of them violating an anti-SLAPP law. He won a $1M+ judgement. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.
It hasn't been up to the people to insure their freedom for about 200 years. It's up the the courts and ultimately the Supreme Court to strike down unconstitutional laws.
Congress passing oppressive laws is nothing new. Fortunately, the Supreme Court striking them down is nothing new either.
"Will the Open Source and Free Software communities develop software that will find widespread adoption amongst the mainstream, or is such software, by its nature, suitable only for sophisticated users?"
Just go home and stay there. That way you won't have to deal with the bad old US government and you can enjoy all the freedoms and privledges of your native homeland.
You need to see an IP lawyer. He will tell you to write an agreement then he will revise it. He will include provisions in the agreement that spell out your protection under copywrite, trade secret and licensing issues.
You really do need to get a lawyer for this. I've written many agreements myself and am good at it, but would defer to a lawyer on this one.

"or am I just remembering some strange dream? "
It's a strange dream. The only 8's that had a knob on the front were PDP 8/e, 8/f, and 8/m and they all shared basically the same front panel design. The knob selected the register that would display on the front panel. It had no effect at all on the operational mode of the machine.
"Interesting question. I'm unclear how normal ethernets of whichever cabling avoid creating groundloops in normal installations on the signal return line, or the old coaxial BNC-thin-net's shields. Maybe the NICs have isolation transformers."
Each NIC transformer-couples Tx and Rx data. The transformers often have a non 1:1 ratio so they are usually impedance matching as well as isolation. There's usually a 1Kv-rated ceramic capacitor from the transformer center tap to chassis ground to bypass static charges.
I don't disagree with anything you've said. And I also use the services of lawyers as needed. That said, there is a big, fat, grey area of life that involves negotiating deals and contracts. I almost always handle these things myself.
The sad thing about getting a legal opinion is that there's a good chance that your advisary is getting the opposite legal opinion from his attorney.
Doesn't mean it is. You really need a good IP lawyer for this. If that's out of the question, I'd send each of the plugin companies a copy of the source, along with a letter stating that to the best of your knowledge, the code is yours and that you intend to GPL it. Give them 30 days to identify any code that they believe is theirs, with the option of declaring none. Tell them that if they do not respond in 30 days, their license to use your code will be terminated and they must cease marketing and supporting the product. Disclaimer - I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.
Admiral Poindexter beta test you!
Thank you.
Right.

I'd mod you up cept I've blown away all my moderator points modding up all the others that told the guy to get lost. You are very, very right.
Before they levy a media charge for pencil and paper.
Banned chess.
Sorry, I only had 5 minutes to come up with something. The boss is stalking around looking for slashdot goof-offs like me.
Can I use my laser printer to print on Gummy Bears?
Can I dry my cat in the microwave?
Can I put rice in my car radiator?
Can I unplug all the fans in my computer so it will run quieter?
Can I run 120 VAC on the spare CAT5 pairs?

A masterful piece of work full of history and technical details.
What a Beowulf cluster of these guys would look like?
Kundalini wants his face back....

This is a job for a pro. They can do it right and you'll never get it out yourself. Please don't muck with it and make it worse.

Agreed. Lots of +5 morons today for sure.

What a Beowulf Cluster of these things colliding would do?
Would be your best bet. I've run it on just such a system. Can you say "recompile the kernel" I knew you could.
