Rather if it hadn't been for one of the robbers being particularly stupid and driven his own car in front of a camera its pretty likely they'd have got away with the Hatton Garden heist. So I think its fair to say their technical skills were good but their HR skills were poor and they hired an idiot that brought the whole thing down.
The blockchain tecnhology is a fantastic idea, however Bitcoin is the technology AND a currency (actually more like an investment vehicle TBH) and the banks don't want someone elses alpha release currency that is outside anyones control when they can magic up their own and control it completely whilst still retaining the benefits of blockchain.
A social media site can vanish as fast as it arrived if the Next New Thing comes along - look at MySpace - so as you say, Facebook could well be gone in 10 years. Not sure about MS, their intrenchment in the business IT world is so vast that it'll take a lot longer than 10 years for them to die even if they made a bigger stuff up than Windows 8 once more. Apple? No chance, not while it keeps selling the New Shiny and with cash reserves larger than some 2nd world countries.
