    You have a point, but that doesn't make it a 50/50 chance. It would if the direction was selected at random and the reason assigned afterwards, but that's not how it works.

    Only parts of Java has been open sourced yet. The remaining parts will be released in the first quarter of this year they say at Sun. I believe them, but I won't go out dancing in the streets until I have all the code with a nice license on it in my hands.

    Would all you Americans please understand that your constitution is not the ultimate source of everything that is good. Of course YouTube has no legal obligation to let people put anything on their site. If they did, this would be a lawsuit and not just a Slashdot article. But YouTube (and thus Google) are being pretty evil acting like this, and we have every right to discuss this and criticize them for it.

    Remember, free speech is a lot more than your First Amendment.

    These automatic parking systems are everywhere in Japan. Especially in the craped city centers, but even many normal apartment buildings have them to cram in a parking spot for each apartment. Here is the info page from a company that sells these systens, large and small.

    On my last flight I noticed the in-flight entertainment system used Linux. How I noticed? It crashed in the middle of the flight and had to be rebooted. Tux in corner, kernel boot messages and everything.

    I just can't decide if it was a good or bad sign for Linux.

    I think it could be because Nobel Prize winners are usually quite old. Many people are nominated for years before they are selected. I guess nominees are younger on average. Thus the winners have already survived more years, and are likely to live longer.

    On a side note, Nobel Prize nomination means very little. It only requires a nomination from any of the large number of people allowed to nominate.

    After all, I suspect that the blind do not constitute 0.6% of the browser market but those sites are required to be accessible to them. Are the blind somehow better than Opera users? I mostly agree with your comment, but the above argument is not good. Opera users can switch to an other browser. Blind users can't stop being blind.

    if I had written a/b * b = c you wouldn't think twice about canceling b out. If you are doing stringent mathematics, you have to. You can only cancel out b/b if b is not zero.

    Could you tell what areas you teach? It would be interesting to check the Wikipedia articles. I know there are some articles in Wikipedia that are just copied from the public domain 1911 Britannica. Other than those, it would surprise me if Wikipedia is that out of date.

    I really don't understand what you mean by "evolution by way of behavior". This looks like ordinary, though fascinating, evolution to me.

    I supposed the lizards sometimes fled into trees if they had to even before this. Those who did + had short legs survived.

    Also, everything about evolution is controversial? Is it really that bad in America?

    So, after a lot of explaning why the grandparent is wrong, you come to the same conclusion: That a lot more money would be spent on rich kids than poor.

    In your system, I would start a school that only accepts high-performing children and kick out anyone who doesn't get a good enough score to be profitable for me.
