i guess i'm just saying that openvms seems rather esoteric to me and if i'm not free to download the source code, compile it, and tinker with it, i don't think it's really worth my time. I'm not going to jump through some company's hoops, pay them money, and agree to their license just to learn their software.
oh, and the two responses to my post so far are basically personal insults. it makes you two look like intelligent people, certainly not like a couple of fucking dumbasses.
it appears to me that lindows had a deal with codeweavers or something where codeweavers would provide what they needed for windows compatibility.. i doubt lindows did a whole lot of development on wine themselves.. it looks like codeweavers realized they lindows was full of crap and backed out of the deal..
perhaps i am wrong..? but it's the impression i get.. and i hope lindows goes to hell.. more power to lycoris. lycoris is much more reasonable with the open source community.
i am underwhelmed. it looks about as good as the kde 3.0 default theme.. kde 3.1's keramik will blow this away.. i wonder what's up with redhat's blind hatred of kde, anyway? oh well.. nice to finally see some screen shots of it..
you get more control over your apps when you compile stuff from scratch.. for example, i like to fix the crappy colors in the kicker pager applet so that it blends in with kicker instead of sticking out like a sore thumb..
and if you use gentoo's portage it's even more idiot-proof than using the rpm command from the command-line.. the delay waiting for the code to compile is only a problem if you're really impatient or if you're computer is so slow that compiling stuff drags it down and renders it totally useless for any other task..
oog. i hear ya.. the last place i worked, i don't think anyone in the IT staff made over $35,000 a year. It was frusterating that they seldom thought things out or did things correctly.. they could easily have replaced almost their entire IT staff (six or seven people) with one or two (more expensive) people that knew how to do things right.
Wasn't it already obvious that eating a low glycemic index diet reverses insulin intolerance?

i might actually care about this if the software is open source and not just another proprietary unixy OS.
yes. the majority of my mp3/ogg collection is demoscene music.

the web site certainly looks like it was designed to appeal to a 13 year old.. :\ somehow it reminds me of sesame street and barney.
heyy.. that was _funny_, not a troll. :) annoying moderators.
because the moderators are full of shit?
it's the name.

netscape is generally more stable than mozilla? would it be appropriate to put ns7 into a production environment instead of mozilla?

any old card with 2d acceleration should work fine, i guess.. 2mb ati rage II + dvd works nicely for me..
might rather want a physical interface with a lock on it or something. i wouldn't want someone to "hack" my brain from a webpad down the street.
