It's the one tech that "just works". Small, lightweight, no automatic updates. Now, becuase companies misuse it is somehow Flash's fault? The idiots that force you to access their website via Flash will just as likely abuse any other tech at their disposal
If your goal is a low bug rate, neither unit testing nor automatic code check tools will have a huge impact. Automatic code check tools will flag down some minor bugs alright, and require little effort, so definately worthwhile. Code quality isn't something that's just tacked on at the end of the process. If the design process is done well, there is less chance to bugs creeping in - it's just natural that logical well-designed code is going to be less buggy.

Yes, remeber back that time you met with the queen mother.. ?
Actually, the OpenGL isn't actually implemented on the emulator, and given that they aren't giving out certificates to most of us, that makes it quite impossible to write any Opengl apps. Having said that, you have to consider that this sdk is in beta
If they want to avoid personal attacks maybe they should clean up their shop first. Like find the corrupt officals that changed the vote of Norway and fire them.
I was looking into the iPhone SDK and found that you cannot install any applications without a $99 certificate which they refuse to issue to companies outside of the US. Also, the SDK is really in beta with no OpenGL ES support on the emulator yet. Maybe it's better to wait?
Don't really care about the speed of Vista versus XP (as long as the difference isn't too big). What is important is the tools that we need to do the job work and on Vista they don't. Even getting everything to work fine on XP is a challange, and when you're under pressure to finish a project on time, migrating to a quirky problemic OS like Vista is the last thing you need.
So, what does Dell do when the company says give us 100 PCs with XP, or else we get them somewhere else? Does MS really have so much power that they can make Dell and HP loose sales like this?
The reason why they allow him to write whatever he wants is becuase he's one of them (the borg). "Frankly, I think Windows Vista has gotten a bum rap, as I use it every day - even after having left MS - and I would have a hard time using anything else and still be as productive."
> most J2ME-only phones don't support multitasking Correct, but some manufactures do support multitasking (sony ericsson, for example)
>and, like the iPhone, are incapable of running in the background Wrong. All j2me phone have ability to run midlets in background. It will suspend the midlet when you get a call and resume aftwards. I find it ironic that a run of the mill budget phone can beat the iphone in this department
It's one thing slashdotters slagging off Vista but what about when its critised by MS advocates? Codeproject is a stong MS technology site funded by MS themseleves. One of the founding members has voiced his critisim of the OS and said that he would rather use a Mac than Vista.

Yeah, and just as proof of that look at this code:

Installed it, caused my PC to hang. Then found out that adblock doesn't work. So, back to beta5 again
OMG, the new version of Firefox identifies Mozilla.org as a malicious site!

I thought they improved the application development side when they released flex, before that it was pretty poor
You scored +5 funny. I hope you intended your question to be a joke ;)
There's quite a lot of stuff still not open sourced, for instance m3g, aka jsr-184
The link in the story is a bit misleading:
"Developers have access to the iPhone's sensors, its location capabilities, the OpenGL graphics engine..."

Christ. I had to wade through 300 comments, false rumours and legal debates to find out the whole story is bogus.

since antivirus is available for all major OS's that benchmark isn't so useful ;)

Number one is some company called "none", followed by "unknown" and Red Hat is 3rd

Yes. Don't get drawn into flamewars, instead lead the charge!
