Of course, all the ppl that have worked under or alongside me, with their fancy comp-sci degrees, always take notes off my code.

Because an education can give you a body of knowledge, but it cannot make you innovative, creative, intuitive or smart. Pretty much anyone can get through school and get a degree.

Usually, the more education you have, the less innovative you are. Your creativity gets squashed beneath a mound of other ppls ideas. If you disagree, you probably paid too much money for your education.

Perhaps Saddam doesn't want to facilitate the spin being put on this illegal war? CNN cuts reports of Arab responses to the war and it shows scenes of peace and quiet in Bagdhad while buildings are burning.

An interesting discussion would be, what can/should the world do to punish America for this? They are flouting international law, they are intentionally discrediting and destroying the UN, and they are bombing a foreign country with nuclear waste with no provocation whatsoever.

In a simple world, it would be clear that we should demand that the US withdraws, destroys its weapons of mass destruction, and cease selling arms around the world. But it's not a simple world. Every member of the older generation has massive amounts of their retirement money tied up in the US, so they're not going to be inclined to do anything too disruptive. Facist America (aka Corporate America - learn) has its fingers in the industry of most nations around the world, and has always been pretty brutal about using its economic power to crush opposition. So doing something about America would require most countries to seize American ownership of business and infrastructure within their own nations and redistrbute it, while also dealing with the political and military aspects of the task... an expensive logistical nightmare.

That said, America is an ever growing threat to world peace. Take a look at www.newamericancentury.org ... The clearly stated intention of the American government is to crush any opposing leadership, destroy the UN, and control the world through economic and military might.

So what do we do? Cause it beats the hell out of me.

You can say "Oh, you shouldn't have that power" till you're blue in the face, but unless you're signing your own paychecks, your opinion don't mean shit. Often (usually?) these people will be stupid, lazy, busy, or some combination of the three. They will break it, and you will have to fix it. Proper backdoors will let you fix the system from your desk, and the powers that be will say "Man, that guy's great... I called him up after Joe broke the system, and 5 minutes later, it was fixed." Backdoors have gotten me good references and new jobs. I'm not likely to stop building em anytime soon.

  23. Re:MMORPG != RPG (in most cases) on Star Wars Galaxies Only to Allow One Character Per Account · · Score: 2

No, I thought I made it pretty clear in my original post that my other characters did not exist to support my main character. They existed so I could have fun playing a different role.

For example, in one campaign I had a male half-ogre fighter and a female swashbuckler.

One was a big, dumb, mean, scary brute who was so big he had to sleep in the barn with the horses. Except he evolved into a (relatively) more sophisticated character, aquired a small army of followers, developed a sense of responsibility, and became a leader.

The other was a gorgeous bombshell who started out as a tease, evolved into a tramp, then evolved into a cruel and bitter woman.

Both were very different to role play, neither resembled ME very much, and the whole experience was great fun.

While there are morons who will corrupt any game, that doesn't change the fact that it's not a RTS game, it's a big game of pretend. This rule change takes out the ability to have fun playing pretend, and makes the focus developing the power and abilities of your only character, who will inevitibly compromise the role to the circumstances and come to resemble you. Thus, you've killed the last vestige of role-playing in the game.

Sometimes it's fun to be a brute, sometimes it's fun to be honorable to the point of stupidity, sometimes it's fun to be evil. But this game won't be a "Pretend to be someone else" game. It will be a "What would happen if I personally was in the star wars universe" game. Which is not role playing at all.

It may be a fun game for all that, although I doubt it. But so is Quake, and it's not a role-playing game either.
