  3. So what? (and here's what I WANT) on Toshiba Adds VoIP to PCs · · Score: 4, Interesting

I'm not trolling, its an honest question. Why does this matter, the article is very short on details (yes, i read it)... I remember using a mic and speakers and free software that all i had to do was plug in his IP, we connected, and chatted...just as I'm seeing this as, only this includes conference calling and can take advantage of some toshiba hardware...

the article says " It works on both wired and wireless PCs running Microsoft Corp.'s Windows XP."....

why wouldn't it work on both wired and wireless pcs? am i missing something?

Why would someone buy this instead of some hardware only solution or some "phone" that just uses some free protocols over wireless ethernet?

such features as "conference calling, voice mail retreival" etc...thats not exactly anything new here folks!!!

I a phone with a built in vid cam/little screen, that opens up and is a headset with the screen/cam about a foot in front of my face, uses WIFI and i can wander around the house with, connects to ALL the popular messaging systems (aim msn yahoo etc) and lets them view my webcam automatically (which happens to be mounted on my headset out a foot or so) and automatically displays there webcam on my screen (which is a 1.5 or 2" lcd about a foot in front of my face as well, mounted on the headset), AND if the user i'm talking to is on chat but doesn't have the capability to hear my voice, I want it to do some decent speech recognition, I want my voice to integrate seemlessly into text and get sent to someone's IM client. Dont tell me the technology isn't there yet, a directional microphone can pick up my voice and NOTHING else, and folks, dorm-mates of mine were using dragon dictate to type papers with FIVE YEARS AGO... Tell me that wouldn't be a killer product?

  4. Here's what i'm thinkin' on Tech Titans Prepare to Battle Over Next DVD Format · · Score: 1

For some reason, I find myself not really caring too much to upgrade my DVD player. Regular old DVD, and a decent quality (34" toshiba from costco) TV is plenty good enough for me for now.

That said, if i do upgrade, I really hope that this chinese standard wins out. China has a shitload of consumers, granted not all of them can afford things like DVD etc, but in the upcoming years alot more will be able too...

Thing about the chinese standard is i bet there wont be any stupid regional controls, and I hope they have enough sense nto to make something like macrovision (which just screws up ma and pa trying to route thigns through the vcr, trussst me gah the headaches) mandatory.

If there ends up being two or three competing standards, I'd just nab the chinese one anyway. I'm sure it'll be backwards compatible with existing dvds, and they aren't going away anytime soon. If the local blockbuster or whatever wont stock the dvd's in the format I care for, I'm pretty sure netflix or whatever will step up and stock them, and the local renting places would lose my business, and if they dont sell them, I can get them cheaper on ebay anyway...so no matter what i'm gonna win.

ALSO ALSO ALSO (you KNOW THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, and i for one can't wait)...All of us nerds are gonna be able to get whatever comes out as a drive in the computer. People are going to be ripping these movies in their high quality form and encoding them into DIVX and stick them on regular DVD's!
    la~

this may be true *BUT* some of there stuff is very tasty.

For example, while its certainly much more healthy to eat an apple and drink some water, or just drink real apple juice, once a month or so when I'm at the store I'll grab a snapple apple. I know its mostly sugar, however they've mixed it soooo perfectly that it actually tastes like a liquid version of biting into a perfect apple, like a nice red delicious just picked off my gramma's tree, or something...

if people would cut back from drinking juices like this all day long, and pops with high sugar etc like they are nothing, our nation's dentists would prolly go outta business, and I bet anything we'd all be a helluva lot skinnier.

  6. Re:Junkfood on Measuring Pollution In Humans · · Score: 1

no no no...its not the junk food I'd just like to point out that over the last year, I've injested enough cough syrup (DXM), often chugging 2-3 bottles a day, or taking straight up DXM powder. Along with this I'd pop vicodin, percocet, and tylenol3's like candy if they were available (and I didn't hafta pay). Not to mention the opiate cough syrups such as tussionex and the demerol syrup i scored back a couple months!!! SO CLEARLY, IT'S THE APAP, AND THE "PLEASANT CHERRY TASTE" chemicals we shuld be worried about here!!! Personally, I like to just claim that my body is too toxic for germs to survive (the only time i've been sick all year is now, but its something I ate, stomach flu type thing, and yes, I've been surrounded alllll year by sick family members, cuddling with women who wer sick...(usually women with gfs, after my gf and I broke up, but I'm not a bad person, I was high!) What's the moral of this? Maybe there isn't one...but ...maybe the moral is, GET YOUR OPIATES FROM ALL NATURAL SOURCES!
