    actually my main point (which may have been worded somewhat sarcastically in retrospect) was..

    if you don't like the policy that is fine, personally I do not think it is a slippery slop towards goose stepping down the strasse but hey you know whatever. Asking to see your id and saying well if you won't show it you aint getting on the plane is not a unreasonable policy.

    if you disagree by all means contact your elected representatives write the TSA or whatever you wanna do ... just please don't jam up the security line arguing with the TSA guys at the airport cause you know what they don't have a whole lot of say in the policy... and you are just going to inconvenience a bunch of other travelers for no gain for anyone including yourself.

    but perhaps some disagree perhaps they think if you get 100 people a day walking up to the TSA check point saying "you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant" and then walking out will make a difference?

    that if you go to their web page and look on the left hand side it says URGENT NOTICE blah blah blah XP SP3 then "click here" if you are over "click" it takes you to one of their products (not the affected one btw) page if you are over "here" it takes you to the firmware. kinda funny really.. I would like my vote to the numerous others that suggest this should not have been subbed as a XP SP3 problem but a cock up on Billion's part.

    i was kinda interested in this at one point then when I installed SETI@home i realized that it made my proc max out 24x7 and shoot up to it's load temps (obviously) and of course use more electricity. i decided that I wasn't willing to stress my equipment or pay for the electricity to run this type of software ( I do of course realize you can set the amount of cpu it uses.. but still) I think that all these distributed projects kinda try to gloss over the fact that it isn't free to participate ... and given the $100+ a barrel oil at the moment people that chose to participate should probably be made more aware of what the costs and wear and tear impacts really are.

    that is all fine and good but my car's CD/MP3 deck doesn't play FLAC soooo MP3 it is...oh and my portable player doesn't play FLAC either

    and of course the file size.. but who CARES IF YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU IN THE CAR ..etc..AND YOU NEED A 2TB NAS DEVICE TO KEEP YOUR FLAC COLLECTION ON...

    personally being (LITERALLY) 1/2 deaf I can't tell the god damn difference between mp3 or ogg files vs CD or FLAC..etc higher fidelity formats anyway.

    i have vista although I'm not using it.. (it is on a dual boot) and it hasn't been booted in months

    i don't like vista

    I made a (not 100% arguably) but a effort to try out various linux distro

    1st distro.. looks ok.. for the most part usable.. except my god damned wireless adapter will not work with and WPA or WEP security turned on.

    I spend a hr and a half trying to find the solution..then i got pissed off

    2nd distro... can't install it downloaded it twice burned it to multiple discs kernel panic every time i try to install it... lost interest in trying to figure it out.

    3rd distro... booted of liveCD wireless works.. great.. tried to install it to the hard drive ... 2nd page into the install dialog installer crashes...

    I for one am praying for a AWESOME Vista SP1 or for Windows 7 to kick some ass. for the moment i'm parting like it is 2001 Windows XP style.
    well...... great...

    apple is completely unacceptable... as you are restricted to apple hardware and apple's hardware doesn't meet my needs at a acceptable price point...nor am i impressed with OS X in general.

    that and for some reason i can't get near a mac without it crashing

    it is possible i am the .nix Antichrist?? cause every time i get near anything .nix~ish it fucks up in someway.

    I can't understand it... I have setup windows domains ..exchange server... WSUS ..etc windows software with great success... but every time i touch something like linux it blows up in my face..

    opening my network to possible security risks

    quite possibly get deprovisioned for breaking my ISP's EULA

    run the risk that one of the moochers was d/l'ing child pr0n or was Al-queda and then spend much time trying to explain it was not me...NO REALLY

    it is a neat idea... but the downsides for the people you need in order to make it work... seem to really be unsurmountable.

    plus besides convincing them to do it... (even if you could get enough people to do it)... you'd have to walk hundreds thousands? of noobs thru setting up their AP's for it.

    it sounds like they might need new equipment or customer firmware also in order for the security part

    not going to happen.

    which is sad... but it aint going to work.... WiFi may not really be the best solution for ubiquitous metropolitan internet access.

    it is pretty good for what it was designed for (indoor) home/soho networks..(small) but trying to cover a city with it is just not practical..like handing someone a pair of pliers and telling them to go drive nails...

    2. It seems likely that this thing would have to be made a light as possible how is it going to stand up (or not) when a Suburban crashes into it

    3. assuming you had a only minor traffic accident... what would teh procedure(s) be to certify it was airworthy after a accident?

    it is also kinda fugly... but that is subjective i suppose.

    everything about the situation with TV in America is a headache inducing mess.... when I was single I didn't even own a TV (for over 5yrs) then ...now the Mrs. LIKES TV (why I can't say....98% of the stuff on seems to be garbage)

    I HATE the $20 (2x boxes $10ea) (on top of the huge amount we are paying for basically (every???) premium channel ..... seriously it makes me angry... but looking at the alternatives ... meh... it is easier to just live with it.

    If it was up to me I'd bag cable altogether (maybe maybe...keep basic...but i'd likely be fine ditching it) and just d/l'ing the occasional shows I gave a damn about...
