They do have a similar high-color quality, but I probably would have said that the icons look like XP icons rather than generalizing it to "user interface."

    Sorry about the confusion.

  16. Re:The new look reminds me of.... on Red Hat 8.0 Released · · Score: 2

Um... I'm using XP right now, (for me, it's been stable and quick with SP1) and as far as the RH8 screenshots go, they look only vaguely like XP. Similar order and placement of the window buttons, and rounded top corners on the windows appear to be the only real similarities. The RH8 interface is still very nice, but I still like the look of XP better.

Of course, if they already had the packaging printed up, they might have to start over. That can take time and be expensive. But at least they might have a legitimate reason to charge $15 for each CD: "The pin sticker for this CD was carefully removed by the now bloody fingers of Pauly Shore."

  25. I'm a math major right now.... on Keeping Kids Interested in Math? · · Score: 1

And in my proofs class we go over different ways of looking at things. Some of the ideas are in the "oh, I could have figured that out on my own" but many are quite fantastic. And learning about this stuff can be rather inspiring.

What I'm saying is that teaching kids 1+2=3 is all well and good. But those are simple, and boring concepts. To spark their interest in math, first learning what can be done with it is better. I mean, I would have been happy to avoid learning the times tables a couple more years to explore what math is really about: patern recognition/analysis -- think puzzles, games, etc.
