This is also kind of off topic. Just checked out the Diablo 2 homepage to see about the 3d support. I was under the impression it was required for the lighting effects. But no it is Optional. I love the quote though. *Supports Glide(TM) and Direct 3D(TM) compatible video cards with at least 8MB of video RAM. Direct 3D(TM) requires 64 MB of system RAM
So an 8MB Glide card is equivelent to an 8MB direct3d card + 64MB of system ram?? Why would any programmer choose Direct3d??
I just dont want to see anybody dissing on Wine for not supporting more games. If Microsoft loosened up their grip on the DirectX code it would make matters better. How can they possibly call it "Trustworthy Computing" if you or I cannot even look at the source. Do they mean that I should be Trusting Them worthy of writing my code? Just my 2 cents.

Well you see people with cars have these little houses to put them in called, garages. A 2 car garage holds 2 cars. He's asking how many ducks fit in a 2 car garage. It's a math equation and it appears he's trying to use the power of slashdot to do his homework. Honestly though, don't you ever read the polls? If you use Slashdot information for anything important, yer crazy.
So then I wonder if toshiba/nec is planning on making set top boxes that play the new discs, dvds, and cds. Could add compatibility to the blu-ray player probably but that costs more $$.
And instead of being creative and thinking of things that might require 50 gigs of space you whine like a girly man. As for 50 gigs of space I could burn every book I ever wanted to read, plus the audio versions. But I'd be doing more than YOU.
Here I'll quote the story for you since you're too dumb to click the shiny blue link.
Both formats feature optical discs 12 centimeters in diameter and that are capable of recording, rewriting and reading data. Both formats use the blue laser, whose wavelength is shorter than that of the DVD's red laser.
So basically, read the story. Then discuss the story.
Slashdot isn't your personal opinion spouting fountain. Go get a fuckin blog. But stop wasting my bandwidth.
And as for filling up 50 gigs, if you stupid fucks who spend 1500$ on a computer actually USED it for something instead of just playing GAMES maybe YOU'D have a use for removable media with 50 gigs. Learn to program, write a novel, make a webpage, fuck man download porn, DO SOMETHING.
The Toshiba-NEC disc has a 40-gigabyte capacity, smaller than that of the Blu- ray, but cheaper to produce. The structure of their disc is similar to DVD's, allowing manufacturers to use current DVD production equipment to make the new optical disc.
I was thinking maybe they dropped 10 gigs to have b/w compatibility? Like not in old dvd players, but the ability to play dvds in their new players. Maybe for the 50gig bluray dvd you cannot play old dvds/cds. Does anybody know for sure?
Realism?? You are talking about codecs that make major asumptions about what people can/cannot hear and then cut out sound based on those assumptions. If you wanted realism you'd do what all true audiophiles do, see the band live or get a bloody phonograph.
The system is on the outside of the tank facing out. the shell is destroyed because it tries to pass a kind of force field. plus the tanks can survive 10+ RPG rounds, if it vaporized the tank as well it wouldn't last after 2 tops.
Just wanted to say I like your Sig. And I agree and hope ATI does some linux drivers. There was that storya while back about the weather channel funding radeon linux drivers. I wonder what happend to that.
Just out of curiousity, do your roomate have a core of nickel?

I downloaded it and ran it and played for probably 20 minutes. It definetely looks badass, but you cannot make quake 1 look like doom 3 just by adding nice shadows and per pixel bump maps. Worth the 3 MB download though.
NO NO NO NO NO. This is EXACTLY what we are trying to get away from with shaders. You ever notice how most effects in FPS games look the same?? All the water looks the same, all the lights look the same, etc. By writing your OWN shader code you can make effects that look original. Or you can do a hack job and use something out of a library.

Very nice review. Just wanted to put my favorite quote. it requires zero configuration once you're configured properly. That's classic.
Do you have a spec sheet for the Toshiba/NEC drive? Or do you know if it also uses a cartridge??
