    I can't think any better demonstration of why smart TVs are such a bad idea than this. I hope this story gets as much chatter as possible.

    Especially with NUCs and similar becoming so cheap... All I want is a dumb display!

    Me too. Which is why that Windows VM I occasionally use keeps popping up with "No Internet" when the Internet is fine. Just no Microsoft until I turn it on.

    Its useless to calculate a dollar price. Tell us the number of bitcoin. Because if you try to sell these amount of bitcoin, the price will drop so you will NOT get $14 billion. So it's just bullshit to quantify it in dollar.

    That is not how market cap works. If you try to sell all of the Apple Stock at once it will go down as well.

    I'm still waiting for a government or national-bank to issue blockchain-based currency that is backed by a familiar, tangible asset such as gold, silver, or the local fiat currency....

    If Bitcoin becomes too much of a nuisance, the Chinese government will either regulate it to death or, if regulation is deemed not effective enough, outright ban it.

  25. Maybe we should start thinking about ways to mitigate this kind of thing. If putting all your eggs in one basket and watching it isn't working then maybe it's better to start thinking about ways to break it up. If instead of having companes like google, yahoo, and facebook with billions of users, we had hundreds of companies each with a million users apiece then the profit potential is greatly reduced. It still takes the same amount of work to hack into the system but if you only get 1M accounts then your profit is only $300 instead of $300,000.

    I would love to have federated social networking the way e-mail works now! Think of how much better the UI (Timeline, home page, whatever...) would be when moving did not mean losing your friends!
