Better for everyone because it makes them come out with the game sooner!
What boggles my mind is why sit on the game until some arbitrary release date and why not sell it sooner?
I noticed a crapload of games slated for end of oct/begining of nov. Stuff like Fallout 3, gears of war 2, wow: lich king. Who's great idea was it to flood the market at some seemingly random time?
Sell the damn game when it's ready!
Unless it's some marketing ploy that's sold as a "Fire your employees before the game comes out so you can cash in on it's success even better(TM)".
Isn't there some big holiday soon after that where a lot of people spend a lot of money on consumer stuff... Jeese... It is right on the tip of my tung...
"Brute Force Attack will take up to 128299838271 years" at 500,000 passwords a second. ElcomSoft is claiming a 20x improvement in speed, but that won't make a dent into an exponential-sized problem.

Yep. And computers won't get any faster in the next 128 billion years...
They would certainly deserve it for willfully bricking unlocked iPhones the way they did, but this is the US were talking about. The only people who will see any benefit are the lawyers. The rest of the world will get a voucher at the Apple store online or some other equally lame appeasement.
$2.5 million in attorney fees, and everyone in the class gets a free iTunes download... Anybody willing to bet? Come on, anyone?
When will companies (organizations) realize that convenience, more than any other factor including price, is a primary differentiator? If you make it difficult, people will just move on to the next solution that is easy. This works for EULAs, DRM, product activation, installation, acquiring media, playing music... "Simple" wins every time.
You get this provider if you live here; you get that provider if you live there. Should people really be choosing where to live based on the only ISP that isn't dial-up?
I did. When I was looking for the home I am in now, I did remove a few places from my list because of limited internet access. It may not make you move, but it can make you "not" move.
like most jobs though, when you are the two star workers in the company and you have been on time for all the other workdays, they usually will grant you a fair bit of leniency.
But they haven't. This is still the interview, and they both missed that!

How about outlawing automated trading programs?
sounds like a solution to me.
How about letting stupid people lose money? Sounds like a better solution to me.
As long as we make sure than when the stupid people loose money, the government doesn't replace it. This might be too drastic for government these days.
Who hasn't done something goofy and thought in retrospect wished they hadn't done it (not necessarily something criminal). Google might make their "second chance" disappear.
Or it might finally make people realize that we are all human, and a stupid act at 18 doesn't equate to judgment post 30. Naaahhh...
If your proposed solution is bringing up creationism, explaining these 'mistakes' and concluding that it has no business being here in science class (ideally wrapping all this up in 45 mins or so) then you have my support.
Otherwise let's save the classroom time for explaining what science IS and not what it ISN'T.
At least someone got it! It is a chance to say that while ID is an explanation, and may be a true explanation, it is in no way a scientific theory. You can teach scientific analysis and critical thinking, both of which are almost completely lacking from public education now, all without every having to say "your belief in ID is a lie." That is the straw man in this whole debate. The truth or not of ID is not the point. The point is that it is in no way science, and even the bible agrees with that.
A vote for a creationist or someone who thinks both is okay is a vote for the U.S. as a backwater religious theocracy. The fact that you seem to think that teaching both in the classroom is "okay" means YOU don't understand the difference between the separation between church and state, or that you don't understand that creationism or intelligent design is NOT science, it it religious dogma masquerading as science. It has no testable hypotheses, it does not teach critical thinking, and it has no place in the science classroom! It does not deserve to be taught both as Palin states and the fact that you think she is "being reasonable" means you fell for the religious propaganda.
And if you allow discussion in the classroom, you can teach all those things you mentioned. We learn as much from mistakes as correct actions. (More in some cases) Do you know how few people can tell the difference between a theory and faith? Seriously, you can teach the difference without saying "Your wrong and have no business being here."
No offense, but if Creationism is going to be taught in school, I'd like to see the Theory of Evolution addressed in religious settings. And why stick to Christian beliefs? There are plenty of other creation theories out there.
I guess what they really need to teach is reading comprehension... She said to teach it all and debate it. Don't forbid any of it.
Also, many Christian schools do teach evolution as well. Some call it a theory, and some teach it as the tool God used for creation.
I remember responses on Slashdot to Biden's poor tech record being rebutted with "well, he's just vice president." Couldn't you argue the same thing for Palin as well?
No because she is republican. That is also why she has to stay home and raise her kids.
Everyone is biased on all sides. Just turn off your brain when you talk politics so you can fit in. Which enplanes the people we keep electing...
Isn't the fact that if it was up to her our schools would be teaching creationism enough for a Slashdot reader? You can call me a troll/off topic, but I think if we have a FAIL in basic science, technology issues are unimportant.
Did you read the article you referenced?
"Palin has not pushed creation science as governor"
"As a candidate for governor, Sarah Palin called for teaching creationism alongside evolution in public schools. But after Alaska voters elected her, Palin, now Republican John McCain's presidential running mate, kept her campaign pledge to not push the idea in the schools."
"When asked during a televised debate in 2006 about evolution and creationism, Palin said, according to the Anchorage Daily News: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.""
"In a subsequent interview with the Daily News, Palin said discussion of alternative views on the origins of life should be allowed in Alaska classrooms. "I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum," she said."
"Palin said during her 2006 gubernatorial campaign that if she were elected, she would not push the state Board of Education to add creation-based alternatives to the state's required curriculum, or look for creationism advocates when she appointed board members."
"Palin's children attend public schools and Palin has made no push to have creationism taught in them."
"Neither have Palin's socially conservative personal views on issues like abortion and gay marriage been translated into policies during her 20 months as Alaska's chief executive. It reflects a hands-off attitude toward mixing government and religion by most Alaskans."
Sounds like she understands basic science and theory just fine. Also she seems to have a grasp on that "separation of church and state" thing.

Bah... id Software releases their games for Linux. Heck, they even GPL their old engines, because id is just that awesome.
Blizzard, don't you want to be awesome too?
:)
I wonder if the fact that I own so many ID games is related... :) Yep!
I even have mod points, but I am the top of this thread... Argh! Talk about frustrating!
There is ample proof of WOW working (somewhat) in WINE, so why not work with the Linux community?
Note that I am not asking for Linux "support" as that is much more expensive a proposition. Just a supported or acknowledged linux community...
People forget that when it comes to phones, "we" are not the customer. Verizon is the customer, and we are the product.

Canter and Siegel? Where are Canter and Siegel? They got the fist little spam, but this actually coined the term.
Convenience is just one factor among many. Convenience does not explain why anyone would switch to Firefox over from Internet Explorer.
Convenient features, like the ad-blocker plugin. Less inconvenient crashes from known exploits. It also comes back to making my life easier.
