Maybe their muckraking? Its about time the press get back to their roots of true investigative journalism and not be afraid of standing by their words. A nation without a free/uncoerced press, isn't free.
Just as IBM did when they first started the home PC.
I like Apples, but why bother? I could save a ton of money and buy/configure a decent Linux box. Like a previous poster said: "Apple is a hardware company".
The article mentioned this too. Isn't this a REALLY bad idea? If there is a high enough fail rate for the boxes, I'm sure that a class action suit is not far behind.
In anycase, we all saw this coming. This is a simple chess match. The XBox was hacked, Microsoft "fixed" the problem. It will be hacked again and undoubtedly they will "fix" the problem yet again. This is a case of "free" Research and development. All the MS Security team needs to do, is simply keep up on reading the XBOX hack sites. Building a better mouse trap with help from the mice.
It seems that the USPTO is getting beaten at its own game. I know of several people who have left the USPTO to go into "patent research and application" consulting because there is more money in it. These former employees know all the backdoors to getting a patent through and the system seems to be getting a little carried away.
Would be nice if the USPTO would get a larger budget and smarter people.
I agree, it may be a bad idea. If however, Microsoft and their ton$ of money are behind it they can spin anything negative into positive. They are long time running company with the tech "know-how". Big business will listen to all the fluff that is put out by Microsoft.
If however, there is a more secure or cheaper alternative to the Microsoft solution, then it could be chalked up as another victory for Open Source.
Until Linux/Open Source can start shooting their own widely publicized technological salvos at Business, they will always have to live on the coat-tails of Microsoft's way of doing business. Red Hat/IBM better start flexing their marketing muscles in order to start dimming the light on M$.
True, but that email worm is released because some "unaware" individual did not know that an email containing the phrase "ana pics" contained malicious code. If they are enlightened, to never open email from someone they do not know, then I would bet these incidents would decline greatly. I think it would be great to have a website dedicated to very down to the earth rules and cautions about using the Internet.
I would have to agree and I was waiting for a 2600XP to come out before I build my new machine. However, Intel dropped the price of the 2.4 GHZ P4's and for $196 that is a steal.
I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned overclocking. I plan to crank up the 2.4 quite a lot, and get an Alpha heatsink.
What I don't understand, is all this talk of buying a "good" case. I have built 4+ computers all with low end cases. If you're clever, you find a way around thise things. Why spend 50 or 60 dollars, when you can get one for $20 (check NewEgg.com..it rocks!)? I would rather put that extra money into cooling or bumping up the video card a notch.
Homer the Narrator: After two hours of the robot crawling through the tunning and drilling a tiny hole through the door we finally are about to reveal the pyramid's most treasured secret
1.) 2.4 ghz P4= $196
2.) Overclock a 2.4 to 2.6 or 2.7 p4 with a decent case and some cooling ($50-$60 more).
Cost saved from overclocking than buying a 2.6 ($499)=$250+
What is going to finally solve the dillema though? I mean, if you enact tougher laws in the United States against certain practices of the RIAA, what is stopping them from moving offshore to a more "business" favorable country?
In my opinion, the artists themselves are the only ones able to remove this threat, as they are the bread and butter at issue. If the top stars pseudo-unionized, there would probably be a better control over the Cartel^H^H^H^H^H^H RIAA.
Reminds me of a scene from "Tommy Boy".
David Spade: "Did you eat a lot of paint chips when you were born?"
Chris Farley: (grinning) "Yeahhh! Why?"
Maybe their muckraking? Its about time the press get back to their roots of true investigative journalism and not be afraid of standing by their words. A nation without a free/uncoerced press, isn't free.
Slashdot effect reached critical mass! RUN!
Or the RIAA attempted to take down P2P networks and did so with the success similar to a Britney Spears anti-piracy campaign.
Slashdot better watch out. They might be next on the legal list, for "Slashdotting".
Or maybe posting follow-up updates EVERYDAY would help people "understand" the situation more clearly.
Just as IBM did when they first started the home PC.

I did...I sent "First Post".
"Sneaking software onto unsuspecting user's PC's..."
One word: AOL

1.) Post company website link on Slashdot.
Step 1 complete.
Excellent
Is that really "Leet" speak though? This more just IRC/IM talk.
:) can spice up any Essay though.
Good though, they need to cut it off in the roots. I do think a well placed
it was "Nokie" that said this. They have no credibility and their claims are completely unfounded.
Now if it was "Nokia", we would all be in big trouble.

ol' Indian rope trick .
Very Cost effective.
Have you read "Takedown"? If Mitnick had just stopped his exploits, he would have never gotten caught. He just was extremely cocky.

No, I'm looking forward to it? Certain people just shouldn't be allowed to breed! Like most people in VA traffic.
1.)Post an article on Slashdot, asking about Warez, hoping that many people admit to pirating.
have written a better "Simpsons" episode.
Homer the Narrator: After two hours of the robot crawling through the tunning and drilling a tiny hole through the door we finally are about to reveal the pyramid's most treasured secret
Homer the Narrator: D'OH!.

C'mon. The issue is clear as black and white...I mean...He's clearing supporting his...
Oh forget it.
"Slashdotting" = disable.
