Really all the whining is about exchange rates and super-artificial economies.
Indian worker do not work for substantially less benefit than US workers - the trade issue people are talking about refers to a pure exchange rate problem.
One could even argue that Indian tech workers reap a substantially higher benefit than their US counterparts when you take mean deviation in standard of living into account.
This is exactly why import tariffs were invented, and curiously, this is what you get when you don't use them.
The problem with usenet names is the fact that there is a master list. There is no such list for the web, and making one, yet alone displaying it, is really unfeasible.
I don't really see this as a problem. There is a lot of legislation in place to keep people away from trademark issues, so I say let people register whatever name they want, just don't be evil.
That's a great point, I'm going to go tell my boss off right now.
Me: Hey, I quit. I don't need this stinking job anymore, congress just changed the length of DST!
Boss: Whaa?
Me: Yep, I'm gonna get rich!
Boss: Sure you are. How do you expect to make money on this?
Me: Laugh all you want, you'll just pay me extra when you need your clocks reset. I'm now a professional time changer! It's the new Y2K.
Nah, think I'll keep what I've got, you all take this opportunity if you want it:)
"Jeff Dunn, a spokesman for Qwest, which provides high-speed Internet service, said his company is not worried about competition. He said consumers are more concerned about service, especially when their Internet connection stops working in the middle of the night."
Really? If Qwest thinks I would suffer worse service under any alternate provider they are seriously delirious. Great job guys, you certainly have my vote:)
Isn't there a flaw in that reasoning? If I was writing such a worm and took this seriously, I'd just target the auto-update mechanism.
Sure, it's tough, but there are always holes. That's the reason for auto update, but it's also a vulnerability. If you can find out how to forge updates, you have a delivery mechanism that would be much more effective than email.
I don't see how a customer owned UPS will provide value. If the datacenter looses power, that's lights out on Internap's routers too.
Unless they are jacked directly into a copper frame or a telco fiber dmarc, but that would be a very odd use of a datacenter.
It's just really hard to see Internap having these issues. Most places regularly schedule intentional fail-overs to test systems. I work in the financial sector, and this kind of loss would be unimaginable at any of our (comparatively small) datacenters.
I use an ISP that peers with internap for upstream connectivity to it's tier 1 ip network.
I noticed a few unreachable hosts earlier, as well as DNS delays. Didn't think much of it, but now those sites are all back up. They are all in the LA area, and I suspect you are as well.
Is this the case? (I can't tell if it's LA or not from current traces, we appear to be using Level(3) to get there at the moment however)
Also, what about redundant power? Internap is huge, they must have redundant systems. in place.
a) Bullshit. Don't talk authoritatively about things you don't know anything about. The important quote here is ""From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
The center of the system is protecting the individual who is perceived as being exploited by the state.
b) Communist is indeed a pejorative term in the US. The fact that "they" were at one time the enemy is hardly a moral justification of continued discrimination. I'm not a "commie", so I won't defend thier ideology, but I would suggest that any criticism be directed at ideas and not cultural impressions.
I'd just ask for sudo access to the resources I needed. Also, you never said why he denied access. Does the system have trust relationships with other systems he want's you out of?
The cited indymedia page has how many suggestions of an actual attempt to shut down the convention?

That's right folks, the expression was in jest.
What's not a joke are Free Speech Zones everywhere our fearless leader goes.
Thanks for playing our game!

'nuff said.
Am I missing something?
Also, MS has been in the search engine biz for years. Updating an interface hardly makes it buzzworthy.
Something like this.

Have fun with your Yugo chump, nothing is better, Yugo or Lamborghini, so I'll take the Lamborghini, you go prove the concept.

Why even go for the hat when you have lots of wall candy all around?
Comeon man, it's on the front page.
"they access outside applications that only run in Internet Explorer"
If they need IE, they need IE. Removing windows won't help them access these sites at all.
It's been around for years...
This calendar is much more in line with the world I want to live in.
The main shortcoming is of course the 10 day week, something that could be overcome by simple division into 5 day weeks.
The best feature is the 5-6 day party at the end. Screw Chrismahanakwanzaka, lets just have a 5 day party.
I prefer cutting off your nose to spite your foot.
In Soviet Korea, original jokes are funny.
I second that, but I also strongly suggest banning the household from both MSN and AOL.
