I wish I had mod points left. That link is one of the most on topic points I've see here in a while.

While most people don't see the paralels, you have to admit, that page shows some very disturbing comparisons.

Not only that, but modems in that age almost universally compressed content on both sides of the pipe.

That would appear to make my online chess playing qualify as prior art.

The only problem with that logic is that we are talking about the past. A past where human lifespan was almost certainly less than 25 years.

To debate where genetic history comes from we must observe our past. A discussion of current era human evolution, while interesting, is of little value to determination of usefulness of our genetic makeup.

People seem to assume that my earlier comments were somehow contesting or at least questioning the evolutionary process. That could not be further from the truth. I am simply asserting that there is a great likelihood that the genetic value of this protein will be evident in early life.

It would be a surprising finding indeed if the major side effect occurred much past 20.

From an evolutionary perspective, one would assume myostatin would provide benefits relating to genetic survival prior to age of reproduction.

Finding that the usefulness of the protein is in the post-reproductive age would be an upset to evolutionary theory.

Imagine for a second that you plan to undertake such an assignment. Would you go to the target site and sit around for a while to let people know your intents?

I think the far more likely scenario is the further development of an Orwellian police state we are already seeing materialize.

Let's quit talking about security for a while and assess the situation. Have we or the terrorists won? I can't help but think that self imposed restrictions we have put in place, the limitations on freedom and justice, are in fact what terrorism is designed to accomplish.

Jingoistic speech can only get us so far. Start to think for yourself - you'll be amazed what you see.

As long as people set up WPA or something, these devices are fine. You would have to have physical access to the network to run the noted compromise, as the page in question is only accessible from the air if you first compromise whatever wireless security the user has in place.
