Serious question. Why would you want to run linux on an Ipod which already has a great interface? the ipod also doesn't have much horsepower, so not sure this is a cheap PC in the making?
Well, they said the same thing about Linux several years ago to. For the desktop market linux probably isnt a threat, but the server market lol it's definitely been a thorn in MS side:) Just think of all the creative pricing plans MS has had to do to compete with *free* linux.
Thank you firefox for brining competition back to the browser market!:)
The above message is eactly why Linux on the desktop will be a while.
I have used linux for almost 10 years. I love it for servers, but it's exactly this type of thing that continually keeps me away from using it as my desktop. Tweak this, change this hidden setting etc to get decent windowing performance.
Why is it that Linux always seems to run slower GUI then MS Windoz out of the box? Normal users will never do this type of moding to get decent GUI performance. Heck, I don't even want to do this type of thing, and I don't! lol:)
But kudos to you guys who like this stuff, I am glad this is available for you tweakers with time on your hands:)
Thanks for the information.:)
This doesn't sound easy nor a guaranteed abiliy to move off of Thunderbird cleanly (i.e. you shouldn't have to fuss so much). Also, what happens to the address book?
This is one thing that opensource projects always ignore, even Firefox! If opensource really wants people to try their stuff, they should focus NOT just on importing, but also making it easy to move off the product in case you don't like it in a few months.
For example, what happens if you don't like firefox, how do you move your new bookmarks back to IE?
I am a big fan of Mozilla Firebird, and I am starting to play with Thunderbird.
HOWEVER, what makes me hesitate using Thunderbird is that once you go to Thunderbird and if you don't like it you can't go back to your old program. Why? Because there is no export ability of your messages and address book, nor do any other major programs import these two items from Thunderbird.
Please correct me if I am wrong as I would love to give Thunderbird a serious try.
I just got a Gmail account. All I can say is WOW. It is so much better then yahoo and hotmail. The shortcut keys, the mail presentation, the CLEAN interface...
Just simple and fast, like google itself
You want to get better productivity, let people work from home. It works great when you have the right people (people usually work more from home then when at an office IMHO).
I am having the same problems. What a pain. I have deleted all my profiles, re-installed 0.9. and still Googlebar, web developer, do this weird HTML or is it XML display at the bottom of the browser window.
What is wrong?
This plugin is causing Firefox problems for me. I get the bottom part of the screen displaying HTML or XML text? I get this with the googlebar as well...anyone know why? I have to uninstall both to get firefox to work full screen normally.
Sorry, I dont get why parent is flamebait? I thought it was an interesting comment.

thanks!
Repeat after me... :).
Correlation is not causation. Basic stats
However, the report probably has some validity in regards to wasting money.
Unfortunately the code base is so large, that even a company as huge as MS can't possibly do anything.
This is why opensource is so great, millions of people contributing to the code base! Another win for the greatness of linux!!
Linux rules! (and or bSD)

Actually, what is sad is that we are a nation of ~300 million. With all the mobilize the vote efforts still only like 1/3 of the people voted?
I for one welcome our new Firefox overlords.
Hail to the godzilla! Long live Mozilla Firefox
Lets hope all this gets worked out. It would be a shame if the Supreme Court had to select the president again :(
This is truly great, so will this be part of it being open sourced the Sun OS?
Thanks for the nice response :) I was not trying to flamebait, or whine. Just ask a real honest question.
This was interesting.
Also, I was talking about both OEM and normal Windoze installs L(
Thanks for taking my question as a serious question and not me whining etc.
This was very interesting:)
LOL! WOW, YOU're RIGHT!lol
ok, i can see your view. Perhaps the comment was mis-placed for this article, but the concept was SOUND.
Why is it I take the SAME exact machine and place Fedora/Debian/Mandrake and it runs SLOWER out of the box then using Windoze?
Perhaps I am just an idiot since I don't want to go about tweaking things to get them fast etc out of the box, right?
mod parent up, it was not flamebait. Geesh. God forgive you mention a legitimate flaw in linux...
Hey mods, that was not Flamebait. Geesh, bunch of idiots.
God forbid you DISAGREE with the mantra LINUX is great no matter what!

Haha, I don't think so. You as a slashdotter must be aware of the huge number of bittorent sites out there...

The Ctrl-mousewheel thing works for me. The ctrl-enter didnt work for me (and its a new trick for me!)
