    MS Studio Suite doesn't run correctly except as Admin. And as a developer, in a company where windows is the primary client, that is what we run.

    I know the party line says that File sharing is good, but if they have signed a user agreement which in exchange for "free" internet access, they can't use p2p.

    I'm guessing that there are ways around it, but P2P is an inherently flawed way of opening your computer to someone else. Especially since in other news today, we find that the "pirate-friendly" P2P service(Earthstation allows deletion of any file on your computer.

    Everything is negotiable, Negotiate that line out. IF you are paying them, get a different TOS. Obviously, Joe Dialup can't negotiate alternate TOS for his 19.95 service from Cablecompany. But Bob Corporation can get the TOS he wants for his T3 that he is paying 1995 for.

    Why is that a bad thing??

    That allows them to fairly negotiate advertising rates and terms independantly of other factors. Most businesses have published rates and terms, however all rates and terms are negotiable. Some people choose not to... but those who do, aren't going to publicly talk about how great a deal they got.

    Basically, SCO is claiming they own the rights to
    "Once upon a time"
    and SGI is saying ok, we had been using "Once upon a time" but since SCO says they own it, we will replace it with "Long ago and far away", because we know that is public domain. We are pretty sure that "Once upon a time" is too, but we don't want to fight about it.

    Ok, so with 1k limit on production they will appreciate in value. I manage to acquire one at the local collectables shop. Carefully open, rip and divx, then replace the foil seals, reshrinkwrap and sell on e-bay as MIB. Assuming I paid cash for the one acquired locally, and the person who gets it from e-bay re-sells it, again for a profit. how do they trace it, and second how do they trace who ripped it.

    It looks like the idea that using a cell phone is detrimental to driving performance is faulty. Since Reaction times are dramatically improved, I expect that within a few years you will be required to use a cell phone while driving.

    Well, if that were the choice, they would have my compassion and help, but typically the choice is big screen color TV and cable vs PC and Internet. When In HS, I had neighbors on "public assistance" with 27 inch TVs in each room. IT is all about choices.

    The average person in the US, poor or not is perfectly happy with bread and circuses ie 3 squares a day and Cable tv.
    And IMHO that's fine. IF you don't have the "want to" to get past that... so be it. The climate today hasn't changed substantially in 225 years with the "want to" you can have whatever catches your fancy, legally. Someone yesterday mentioned starting a business and making a small fortune on a couple hundred bucks. I have the "know how"(generally) to do that, I don't have the "want to"... so I'm sitting here happy with 11 computers, fast internet and living "paycheck to paycheck" ... sure if I really wanted to put in the 80 hours a week for a few years, I could be independantly wealthy, but going to work every day isn't all bad...

    Ok, so poor may last one generation, born poor, sweat hard impart learning values, 80 hour week, keep the kids in school, by the time retirement comes, the kids take care of you... thats the story of immigration 1900-1925.

    As someone else mentioned a No tresspassing sign may be enough, but "soliciting" is defined by US code as trying to sell a product. Girl scout cookies, vacuum cleaners, encyclopedias... handing out pamphlets and being generally annoying about your personal religious or political opinion isn't soliciting.

    Yes, Traditionally the Devil's Advocate is someone selected because of his skill at debate and is required to argue the opposition in order to evaluate the possitive. A story is told of Churchill Debating a subject in School... I'm going from memory, so the details are fuzzy, anyway he debated the position so successfully that his opponent sat down knowing he was beaten. He then offered to swap positions and proceded to cut up the position he had just argued. That is the position of Devil's advocate, knowing the argument so well that whichever side of the debate you take, you can successfully defend the position.

    but the devil's advocate position is always considered an ally, and doesn't attack, but probes...

    UH, The infrastructure hasn't changed, hasn't improved, and the only major change, is that now I have to pay someone for access. I'm not criticizing the comercialization of the internet, I'm just questioning the intelligence of taking credit for it. It was a necessary step, and an evil one. ANd yes I do prefer Bush to gore, primarily because Bush is smart enough to delegate. He is smart and courageous enough to surround himself with men and women who are smarter than he is and will give him straight answers. I wish I could find the Projected cabinet lineup comparison that was circulating back in 2000. Gore had a bunch of idiot yes men that couldn't outthink BUsh, I know he's not a genius. OTOH Bush's cabinet is full of giants.

    Ever since the emergence of the Free public library information and therefore Education has been free as in speech. The public education system goes hand in hand with this by producing nominal or marginal "univeral literacy". If you can read this post, you can teach yourself C++ in 21 days at your public library.

    Not all the problems, just the ones you pose. Don't vote for me. Too much work to be in public orifice. I much prefer doing a good job and going home... quietly to my wife at night.
