    0-60, never. :-(

    The problem isn't the top speed being less than 60 mph. The problem is that as vehicles get close to top speed they tend to be less responsive to the accelerator.

    With a top speed of 55 mph, this is relegated to situations where you know you will never end up on a highway... Heck, most cities have some highways in them (I know that Manhattan, New York, has a couple where you can legally go 50mph and sometimes see people hit 75mph).

    If it frightens you that much, there are other options:

    1. Suicide (or murder-suicide, to make sure no one you care about has to deal with it as well).
    2. Leave the country.
    3. Join a group that will create a civil war in the near future.

    Frankly, waiting and seeing what happens seems like a good option to me.

    The important things wasn't who wins the election, but to get Bush out of the White House. The rest is just semantics. (I am an Obama supporter, who could have easily gone for McCain if it wasn't for Palin being on the ticket.)

    Absolutely. Let's give the guy some room to see what a Democratic president with Democratic congress can do for four years.

    There's always the '12 elections. If things are still bad then, the Republicans will have a (relatively) easy time.

    That way they can audit the voting machine.

    Say the machine had counted 100 votes, but the poll worker had sent only 95 people into the machine. Obviously there is something wrong with the machine.

    (On the other hand, if the poll worker had sent 105 people into the machine, it could just mean that 5 people abstained from that particular election.)

    Palin may have had a shot in 2012, until Tina Fey and the rest of the cast of Saturday Night Live destroyed her political career.

    Now she will always be linked to the SNL skits and not taken seriously. I would be surprised to see her make national headlines again. I don't know Alaskan politics, so it would be interesting to see if she gets re-elected up there easily or not.

    There was a great game for the Commodore 64 about running a presidential election.

    It was pretty simple, but it involved putting money in various states and campaigning and stuff.

    Anything remotely like that available nowadays? Or should I just go back to yelling at kids that are on my front lawn?

    Anyone know if the nvidia proprietary drivers work now? They weren't working as of Monday of this week. (I got burnt with installing the release candidate on my testing machine. Go figure.)

    Not just that, but an article on /. just a day or two ago talked about how Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 are slower than 7.10... and it took six months to figure out that 8.04 was slower than 7.10.

    Hardware is getting faster. Even in gaming rigs, you are just talking about a few fps.

    Not sure how much this will help, but:

    Run a dehumidifier or two non-stop until the air humidity is under 40%. You will likely draw several gallons of water from the air itself, and hopefully dry out the electronics. It will also make the basement liveable in short order.

    My impression was that the amount of Olympics streaming using Silverlight was less than YouTube during the same time period. If so, it doesn't seem like much of a success to me.

    (Calling it a success because people installed silverlight isn't much. Afterall, the same people would have probably installed a rootkit and trojan in order to watch the Olympic streaming. They just don't care.)

    How about support for right and left mouse wheel clicking available on logitech and microsoft mice?

    The number of players on WOW who will be using two mice with scroll wheels at the same time has got to be low. I'd rather they not target that as a minimum system requirement.

    First set each computer up with a dyndns account so that remote administration is easy.

    Then set up folders in each computer for each member of the family. For each family member's main computer, make symbolic links to other family members picture folder, etc.

    Set up a schedule to use rsync to copy the contents of the folders on a daily basis.

    While you are at it, I suggest adding one more computer to the mix that will copy the home folders for all family members and keep them in a svn folder so they can call you to undelete files.

    Apply iPhones are a small fraction of all smart phones, let alone all phones.

    AT&T/Cingulair has at least a couple viable large competitors in most markets in the U.S.

    Brand loyalty is fleeting in the automotive industry.

    Toyota doesn't want to build a plug-in hybrid? Fine.

    My dad got invited to see the Jaguar Plug-in hybrid, which will run off the battery for 50 miles before burning any gas.

    Considering my dad has a 22 mile commute, he can't wait for this thing to hit the road.

    He doesn't know when it will become available, but he's already on the wait list. (Estimated price ~$80,000, by the way)

    Why not?

    How about the first time the system boots, it profiles what drivers are installed. It then recompiles the kernel to include those drivers.

    On subsequent reboots, it uses the recompiled kernel and then, once the system is up and running, check to see if something that is compiled in is no longer needed, and see if something has been added that should be compiled in.

    I'm sure it's not *that* easy, but maybe an idea for the future?

    How about ability to receive a message on a cell phone.

    While not everyone has a cell phone, those that don't can probably find someone who does to use for this purpose.

    And if you don't know anyone who has a cell phone, you probably don't have a computer hooked up to the internet.
