    OK the first 2 I agree, the 3rd is just personal bias, rather than actual fact.

    The fourth just plain doesn't make sense, when arguing why sell OS-X rather than GNU/Linux. Nobody sells stuff because it's cool. They may make the customers think that it's cool, but from the sellers viewpoint it's just a product that they're selling.

    You clearly missed one of the biggest advantages, that this move from Office to OOo had, It was being able to reuse older hardware as Terminal client with out h/w upgrade, barring addition of one terminal server.

    Even if microsoft gives away free software, it will come at a price of having to upgrade the existing h/w, which could be preety steep for a school

    On some unix terminals, backspace is mapped to ^? (Ctrl-?) , aka the Delete key, not the backspace key.

    If you work on such a terminal and accidently type the backspace key, all you get is a series of ^H , instead of actual text being deleted.

    The /. commnets with ^H in them are a elite way of showing two ways of putting things, The first word being not so politically correct followed by ^H and the PC version of the same.

    Man I have too much time on my hand...btw to get the backspace key to do what it should do "stty erase "

    Most ATMs on Cirrus or Star Network will charge 2$ to 2.50$ for ATM Txns , (excluding ATMs of your bank, e.g. if you have an a/c with BoA, BoA ATMs will not charge you).

    But my credit union only charges .75$ on all ATMs on Cirrus or Star ATMs, and even that is vavied if I maintain a daily balance

    Instead of just plain banning non-chinese firms to sell s/w in china, what if they ban all software which does not have support for the major chinese languages (mandarin, cantonese ) etc.

    How many s/ws manifactured by US firms have true internationalization support ?

    Besides the ban would be only for selling s/w to the Govt, not the 1.3+ Billion consumers.

    first of jpython is just too slow. with groovy you can compile the groovy script in to a .class and get the same performace (or the lack of ) as a regular java class.

    Well almost, as groovy uses reflection for method invocation, it is slower than regular java method call, but this is being worked on.

    The great thing about groovy is it supports junit from within, I have cut down my unit testing time drastically ever since I started using groovy.

    Plus forget about writing complex build.xmls for your ANT . You can write much more elegant build scripts using groovy.

    Groovy really looks like the step in right direction.

    not just recognition, my company ( a typical hot shot financial company), with idiots working as security advisiors, won't allow me to install firefox as it is not a recognised software.

    But I can install Netsacpe though. Almost every one exclusively uses IE and these guys waste half their budget fixing PCs , removing spyware/adware , trying to contain worms etc.

    You won't belive the idiocy found in some of the coroporate sector. So I am content using atleast netscape instead of IE.

    Why use WMP at all ? why not use Media Player Classic

    Seriously I haven't felt the need to install any AV player after MP Classic and mega codec pack from kazza-lite. Also use real player alternative and quicktime alternative much less resouce use and no phoning back to home.

    USofA really needs to pick up pace as far as mobile tech. is concerned. But will the baby bells controlling so much of the telephony market, I don't see that happening.
