In astronomy, they don't call it spinning, but "ro...tat...ing" (making finger quotes as I type). You have to give some respect to the man who discovered the biggest snowball that side of the asteroid belt
Read the sig you know where I stand. But at least this is not another security through obscurity piece. He does do a decent analysis of Mac OSX unix sub-system and makes a good argument of how it is inherently more secure.
If I spray perfume on shit, in the end, its is still is shit. When the title completely summarizes the movie, you know Hollywood has yet again produce some shit. First, Samuel Jackson acting talents are wasted again as he plays his usual role of "bad black mutha that is cooool" who fights the "bad guys" (doesn't that sound stupid). Second, the plot... did they even bother to give one to this the movie. Third, over-reliance on computer generated effects. Wow look, they made snakes this time. Yawn!!! Perhaps, they should stop producing shit and the movie will actually return on the investment.
I wouldn't call it censorship and Iran President new blog ironic. Iran is authoritarian society and I call it par for the course. In Iran, you expect the president to talk and the people to listen, not the other way around. The true irony is that it is not much different in the US. Unlike in Iran, we can talk our mouths dry. Yet, our President (or our Congress, for that matter) just choose not to listen.
Apple is in difficult if not precarious situation. On one hand, it is competing with the likes of Dell for hardware sales. On the other, it is competing with Microsoft for software sales. In the case of Microsoft, it is still relies on the giant to keep Office up to date. Nevertheless, in both cases, Apple is the clearly the underdog. What do you do? You highlight the features that you offer that are better than the competition. Smugness? That is a personal defect which has nothing to do with the software or hardware I use nor does it affect the relationship with MS. The features that Leopard offers is an improvement, albeit small ones. I think it is best to focus on a small set of features and offer them in regular updates rather than take Microsoft's approach and have to embarrassingly drop features that are unattainable and then take a long time to develop the rest. I think these features will keep Apple ahead or at least at parity with Vista. Also, Jobs didn't preview all the features in leopard. I think there is one of great strategic importance that Apple isn't so worried about copying (Vista is beta now and will recieve no more features) as they are worried about the fragile relationship with Microsoft and other developers. (Windows application compatibility layer or the releasing of OSX to OEM)
Well, shit. 4 core on one card then. I don't need to RTFA again. Personally, I just need one card with a lot of power that can stay cool without a refigerator. Put it in the iMac and I am a happy boy.
I don't think the Mac gaming community can go any lower than it is now. Apple needs to reach critical mass before game developers will consider native versions. I think Apple is moving in that direction but until then we could use all the games we can get. So, this technology, which will probably be buggy as hell, might help us to reach that critical mass by attracting those users who are sitting on the fence.
Where are the dual core graphics cards? I would the better innovation would be to have four cores on 2 cards than four core on 4 cards. maybe something will come out of AMD/ATI.
How is your treatment going for your crack addiction? Did you go off your meds? Perhaps, this is a lame attempt at sarcasm? I know Spaces is a virtual windows knock but Linux window managers never did it quite as well as Apple has demonstrated. Time machine is another feature that can found implemented in other OS including windows. But, it is implemented in a way that it is accessibiltiy and easy to use. iChat makes colloboration actually possible without needing an IT person at your desk unlike Windows (even though Microsoft says otherwise). I think Apple is making great strides to broaden its appeal to more markets beyond creative types. If you don't value that, well you are not really running Apple anyway. In addition, I seriously doubt you are any good at marketing strategy .
I tend to agree. Astronomers really have a tough time of it. Imagine being told to describe the beach while residing on a grain of sand. I personally take any conclusion about the universe with a pinch of salt simply because most of it is extrapolation. We have only been studying astronomy in only a in a brief moment when scaled to the age of the universe and only have been studying a spec when compared to the size of the universe. Then, we extrapolate conclusions-based on our limited understanding of physics- about the past and the future of the universe. Those conclusion are tenuous at best.
Windows only- I simply do not want to buy another Windows computer. I prefer Mac exclusively and I want a game developed with that platform in mind. Hell, I don't even want Windows via Boot Camp
Games have definitely lost its luster. Rainbow 6 4 was DOA, Quake 4 was boring, and the Diablo genre is gone. Game developers are focusing on more flash and less substance. Consequently, the more flash there is the more money you have to spend on video cards and physics accelerators. Hell, after you have spent thousands of dollars on a gaming rig, how much money is left over for the actual games? I pirate too!!!
Get a life- The biggest regret I ever had in life was spending endless hours playing online games. There is a whole world out there brimming with infinite possibilities with diverse and interesting people. Yet, somehow, we are suppose to be inclined to substitute that for fanatasy world and a lonely room at $54.99 a pop. The hell with that!!! I personally am getting into motorcycles, swimming, cooking, reading, religion, and most importantly women.
i don't know, I found that the changes that are skin deep to be the most interesting. Support for 4 hardrives, 2 superdrive, 4 graphics cards (i don't think they are sli), and 16 megs of ram to be a hugh leap forward. Personally, I think Apple like Lenovo (IBM) should settle on one design and just work out the bugs. This way they can produce a sleek reliable product. Don't be so superficial. Besides, that design is light years over anything Dell or Hp has produced to date. Apple has got breathing room so should focus on reliability.
What is this obsession with Apple branded phones? I am sorry but I have a RAZR and a nano and they are suffice to what I need. Both are small enough to carry together (I usually have 2 or more pockets) or I can leave iPod if I don't need it. Moreover, both invidually are great at what they do! When Moto try to converge the cell phone and the ipod (ROKR), it looked awful, had limitations, and was expensive. Personally, with WWDC around the corner, I am more interested in Leopard (Vista killer?) and the new Mac Pros.
There is a lot of demand for applied mathematician in the financial service field. Investment analysist, economist, and statisticians are just to name a few. I find it unfilling personally but there is a lot a money in it. I suggest you go career builder or some other job website and see for yourself. Physics and engineering majors are also welcomed.
Your comment is well thought out and informative. But in the end, you have to choose a side and you to do something. Hezbollah is by every definition a terrorist group. It is not acting under government sanction, is deliberately targeting civilians, and has foresworn to wipe a nation off the map. Israel face with attacks on its sovereign territory is suppose to do what? Nothing? Go to the UN? The really have little option except military ones. Hezbollah won't negotiate and Lebonan has its hands tied so that leaves diplomacy out.
I agree. That Superman movie lack total imagination or originality. You rehash the old series and bring yet another Lex Luthor plot. There is always Spiderman next year. The trailers show promise.
The world has change dude. There is internet, TV, satelites, and telephones. I know that Isreal is bombing Lebanon back to the Stone Age. I knew that an hour after it started whereas 220 years ago I would have heard the news in about a year if ever. That is what has change. If want to know what Congress is doing today, I can turn on C-Span. That has changed. I talking to you and I have never seen you in person. That has changed. We have a national education system that include thousands of colleges. So, you see a lot has change. I think the true purpose of the electoral college as envision by the Framers was logistical in nature. A nation that spans from Maine to Georgia would provide a challenge to collect and tally votes in an direct national election. Imagine running a election where the votes were move via messanger on horseback from each of the districts. It would take years just to decide one election especially if there was a dispute or recount. I don't think it had anything to do with fear of mob-rule. Perhaps the voting requirement of white-male land owner was to stop mob-rule but that didn't last long and it didn't do any good (think KKK). Human nature won't change but that has nothing to do with how I elect a President.
I would disagree with you. First and foremost, the framers set up the constitution to be ammended with the times because they knew that they couldn't think of everything. What the Framers envisioned 220 years ago is not necessarily applicable today. They never could think of the internet or TV. The population as a whole is now not as nebulous as you describe due in large part to the forums like the one we are using now to discuss the issues across the nation. The internet links us together and can be used to inform and rally the people to exercise greater control of the government and of the president. Second, mass communciation system that we have now can further inform and update voters in real-time. Then, polls can quickly gauge the pulse of the people providing the appropriate feedback to the elected officials of their actions. So, the mechanism of control by the people is already in place and we don't need local proxies to do it for us.
Alright dude. Let me say that I don't believe you have a girlfriend or a least one you like.
Reasons
-you bring up this whole fat women and geeks thing (in obviously a bitter tone) when I was just making a metaphor for Mac (fashionable, seems to be gay) and linux (geeky, needs work). If you were a man who could get women, you wouldn't really notice the fat women or that they hang all over the geeks. It was just an inappropriate response.
- you describe her as 8 out 10 which means you still compare her to other girls. Why not 10 out of 10? She may not be 10 out of 10 but at least you can indicate that she is all you need. (ie you don't really like her)
- Most importantly, your are posting on slashdot on a Friday night. What? She have better plans. You should be with her instead of flaming over this non-sense.
You need to put that metric into context. Analysts see signs of the PC market slowing in growth . Yet, Apple has actually grown in sales. The conclusion is that Apple stole sales from Dell, Sony, HP and the like and that is significant.
When are you Windows users ever going to learn? You guys are just like abused women who just can't seem to get out of the relationship. You may be financially dependent. Emotionally dependent (unusual). Physically (gaming, porn, gambling; even more weird). Microsoft doesn't trust you, manipulates you, gouges you, and neglects you! You need to ditch that guy! With Windows, you are not a user but just plain used! You need to give that artistic guy who always dresses good and seems to be gay a chance. Perhaps, you might like the geeky awkward guy who needs some work to bring him around!
I mod this article -1 (no shit sherlock). Hmm, Apple will announce its new OS at its developers conference! Boy, I didn't see that coming. Apple always full of surprises, huh. Then, I mod this article -1 (Yet another damn blog). Some dork posts a link on his website and its news that matter? Why not link directly to the story? I don't care about the dork, his interests, his profession, what he thinks, or to look his at ugly mug in a horrible picture. Let him post on Slashdot like the rest of us and earn his karma. In conclusion, editors RTFA!
Clyde Tombaugh is surely spinning!
