I don't know if this speaks highly or lowly of Apple. Everytime I read a story about an Apple defect, it is something new and unique. Whether it is a faulty logic board, bad battery, white spots, or yellow palm rests, it is always something new. My particular notebook had a recall on it due to a faulty memory slot. At the least, it illustrates that Apple is pretty decent at troubleshooting the design to resolve errors from future generations. Also, it shows that Apple like any other PC manufacturer is only going to produce systems that are good as their individual parts.

Thus, our representatives should ignore the lobbyists and do their own homework on the issue and come up with a good solution. A good indicator that they are right is when no one is happy with it.

I think the advantages of flat rate is that it will generated momentum for the internet distribution of movies by giving vendors like Apple a competitive edge over DVD. Argueably, it is necessary because downloading a typical movie takes 4-5 hours with DSL which makes distribution not neccessarily convenient. Tier pricing is fine and more acceptable from movies studio in that production for a single movie can range in the hundreds of millions. I figure that a flat pricing may be granted temporarily to generate then move to a tier pricing afterwards

I see this as a major problem. Microsoft inflated the system requirements against the trend amongst OEM to use Intel video chipset and lowend chipsets in budget and mid range PCs. I can see this as at the very least a source of confusion. Instead looking at the cards you going to have add it to the main memory to figure out you requirement or if your system can even handle it. Also, I suspect that a great many notebook out there today in business, government, and consumer pc won't be able to even run Premium. Also, business and government destops won't be able to run it either. Remember, common knowledge dictated that for basic tasks a great video wasn't needed. But, this Aero feature is one of the major improvements that Vista had over XP to create a more efficient workflow. Microsoft seem to shot themselves in the foot as most people will default to lower price "basic" version. Moreover, their upgrades are going to look like XP which may create a backlash. I am sure glad I jumped off the Microsoft ship a long time ago. I think I am going to be more adament about purchasing Apple system when people ask for recommendations.

You don't know the mac community very well. We will pay for anything (sometimes more than Windows users) so long as it just works. $80 is small potatoes next to the $300 we already shell out for that other office suite. I certainly think it is reasonable to charge to support development. Even with the developers volunteering their time, new Intel Macs cost money and money don't grow on trees. From what I heard, this project isn't supported by the main open office project. The money is got to come from somewhere and if you are not contributing to the source code, you might as well shell out the cash. It is only fair if this project is important to you.

You can not tell me China (Tiamanmen Square) allows labor unions or give them any latitude. In order to have prevent outsourcing under laisse faire policy, we have to not unionize, give up essential benefits, work longer hours, and get less pay. You would hope (naively) that American executives would demand better conditions from their subcontractors in China and other countries but I am sure they would overlook those conditions for the bottom line. In end though, we are our own worse enemy. We demand cheaper prices and could care less where or how our products are made. Moreover, instead of watching elected officials, we choose to be hypotized by reality TV and crime dramas. There is only some much our population can do in a services economy. Not everyone can be a financial analyst, a software architect, engineer, or any other job that requires a bit of intellect. Construction jobs are going to illegal immigrants and those won't last when interest rates go back up. We are in for some desperate times.
