Athlon 64 users rejoice! Today at WinHEC 2005 in Seattle, Microsoft announced availability of the 64-bit editions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
You spout off about the joys of linux. But,when Microsoft comes crawling with a 64-bit OS, you fall over like a bitch in heat. Sadness
This is nothing new in regards rewarding loyalty and punishing dissent. But, it does illustrate the adminstration approach to dissent. Basically, it prefers to attack rather than to compromise
.
Examples:
CIA agent reports no link between Sadamn and Nigerian uranium; reveal the agent's identity.
Need Iraq's oil but you don't want to deal with Sadamn; Invade Iraq.
Hate Democratic Senators filibustering your appointments; Remove the filibuster.
Don't like courts making decision on gay marriage; institute an admendment banning gay marriage.
When dissent is finally quashed, we can finally live in peace under Republican rule. Don't feel too bad though, I hear that an one-party dictatorship has worked well in China
cNet is bias against Apple. I wonder why they have Microsoft executive commenting on another company's product. Where is Phil Schiller or executive in charge of OS development commenting. I bet they didn't bother to asked. cNet has pretty much trolled this story since Apple released Tiger in various forms. I don't wear a tin foil hat but I can read between the lines.
what is up with desktop search anyway. I never had trouble finding something anyway. I think this Microsoft trying keep their product significant in light of OSX. Avalon technology has been done since 10.0, Spotlight is here now, location manager allows PowerBook users to switch their settings from place to place, and decent security out the box among others. Microsoft drop the ball because they become complacent. In the end, of course, it won't recruit new users (certainly not in droves) into the mac fold but I get a better a OS and so will Windows users -eventually;)
on a side note, as anyone notice the bias at cNet towards Apple. At lot of quotes from Allchin, but where are the quotes from Apple representatives. I am sure Oppenheimer or Schiller would love top chime in with their sale pitch. Did they even bother to ask them for a quote?
Controversial, no. Unconventional, maybe. Dorky, absolutely. Troll me if you like but people devote too much of their lives to a TV show. They would rather go out their way for a fantasy than to put effort in real life causes. I know the world isn't perfect as the UFP but that is why we need people to get off the TV and get involved.
for the love, quit jabbering about asteroids that may hit us. What the hell is the space program for if they can't figure out how to blow up a threatening space rock. My god, we can send probes to Mars and dig up dirt, we can fly into a tail of comet, we can submerge a probe on Jovian moon, among other useless shit but blowing up piece of space rock is mystery. I guess it just to practical for them.
Read the slide presentation. On pg 9, it shows a picture of Mac OSX at the terminal and on pg 16 it lists OSX under the software. However, linux will still operate the NFS server because Apple's implementation of NFS server only allows fifty clients. I am not sure whether a XServe or an old computer from the previous cluster will run it.
Dell has always been a very conservative company. Their forays into Linux alternatives is very limited. They have been very loyal to Intel and Microsoft. This all works because consumers don't really care and they can make money off of slimmer margins by limiting R&D and support costs in addition to getting better deals with the two. Apple, on the other hand, puts a lot of effort into R&D, keeps multiple chip suppliers, develops their own OS, and usually integrates new technology quicker. However, they have to rely heavily on higher margins which leaves their products more expensive. In the end, Dell has highest marketshare and Apple is technology leader.
In Maryland, she passed the age of consent after 16. However, personally, I believe that no adult should be soliciting sex from someone under the age of 18. Though their bodies are ready for sex, they haven't reach the social maturity to deal with the consequences of it. I have seen teenage parents not ready to be parents, I seen teenagers getting STD's and spreading them, and I seen teenagers forgoing college because they have a child to support and have to work full time at a lousy job . None of that is pretty and social consequences last for generations to come.
I agree. Windows should really drop the A,B,C naming scheme and rely on Volumes Names like OSX. Think GUI as well by design unique icons for the different type of media because pictures are more intuitive
I thought I saw something like that before in another OS. In fact, doesn't XP show the actual picture in a jpeg for instance. Now, printing the first page on a Word Document is pretty silly given that I won't be read the text from the icom unless there is a lot graphics.
Again, Tiger is a solid release. It's just not a major upgrade. And it's certainly not worth $129
However, when you do shell the money for it and use it for bit, you can't bring yourself to used the previous version. At least that is the way I feel, I couldn't go back Jaguar after using Panther. Certainly, that would indicate that there is something there that justifies the upgrade expense.
Moreover, compared to Windows, the upgrade costs are pretty cheap. For one, you get a Family pack deal for 199 whereas with activation you have to buy upgrade cd for each computer. After 2 computers, you already pay more than with Mac OSX. Second, the $129 single cd is a full install CD. With Windows, an upgrade is $116* and the full CD is $200. In my experience, full cd's are better because you don't have to install old OS then upgrade to rebuild the system. So, I don't really understand why reporters insist on lambasting Apple for a measly $13 difference.
* The upgrade can be had for $99 at Compusa. So, its 30 but you can still make the arguement
"... I hope Apple releases a product for heterosexual men...."
Amen,
Your arguement is illogical. Just because you like it doesn't mean all men who own macs are gay.
Forget games. The latency between a monitor and a video is a thousands of times better than the latency between two network computers. The frame rate would be terrible. Remote Desktop is more ideal for simple tasks that don't require rapid redraw on a monitor. I usually used it for administration tasks only.
Yeah, I agree. For a $2000+ system, no person would be unreasonable to expect PCIe and an x600 or nvidia 6600 at least. The 9600 is too old for a pro system. Apple should definitely jump on the PCIe bandwagon at least. However, on a brighter, ATI has released X800 AGP for PowerMac. So, at least the latest is available.
I am in the market for a new market for a new Macintosh. However, since I am poor, I would like Apple to put dual cores or dual processors in every damn system they make. Don't hold back. Just think of it, dual processor eMac. See Dell top that!!! Have mercy on me please, I can't afford a PowerMac in this economy!!! Rant done, I crawl back to my shanty.
You haven't been to the gym lately, have you? A flash based player is less susceptible to being damage. With the shuffle, you get like 5 hours which is plently for us non-olympians. Now, with the mini, I just don't have that many songs. I am not big music person so 1500 songs is a lot for me.
You mention ability to address more than 4GB of memory. However, the iMac and some PowerMac G5 can't be upgraded pass 4 GB. I am sure that a few people will benefit tremendously from Tiger and the G5. But, from what read (your links included), I don't think most of Apple's consumer base (me included) will ever see performance benefit from the G5 over the G4 in the near future. To quote Apple, "Mac OS X's transition to 64-bit computing is a long-term effort. The support in Tiger for 64-bit applications is just the second of many phases. The timing and specifics of additional support for 64-bit applications will be decided with feedback from the developer community."That's why I hope dual cores (if Apple uses them) show more promise.
Your post was informative, but I don't think it applies to how I will use my computer. It won't afect my view of the G5

They didn't give an exact date. But, they did mention something about hell and snowman.
Lucas couldn't cut a deal with the giant performer's union.

because I want the G8 to go into Powerbook first when its release. I tired of this whole G5 fiasco

One that can readout the load on each processor among other things from Process Viewer in small window off to the side

Don't speak your blasphemy here. Apple always leads. INFIDEL!!!
