Reporter: We hear that you've come up with a list of things that should be regulated because a terrorist may use these things to cause harm. One of the well known ones is wifi networks, are there any others and how do you think terrorists are using them to their advantage?
Bush: Yes, well one of our other main concerns is airports.
Reporter: Airports?
Bush: Yes, airports. I spent millions of dollars researching previous terrorist attacks to see what they may do. It turns out, in every airline hijacking the terrorists went to an airport to board the plane. If we shut down the airports the terrorists can't get onto the planes so there will be no more airline hijackings.
Reporter: But how will people fly planes?
Bush: I am not at liberty to disclose that information at this present time for fear that terrorists may use it to their advantage.
Reporter: Ok... moving on, it says here that you've decided to enforce stricter laws on, I don't know if I'm reading this correctly, buying coats?
Bush: Yes, that's right, it seems that most suicide bombers hide explosives under some sort of coat. If the terrorists can't buy the coats, they can't hide the bombs, if they can't hide the bombs, they can't blow themselves up. It will eliminate the suicide bomber threat.
Reporter: But if we can't buy coats how will we keep warm in the winter?
Bush: See that's the beauty of it, there's this great thing I heard about called global warming. We're not going to need the coats because it's getting warmer, not colder!
Reporter: Ummmm, right, well anyway, what's this about putting restrictions on telephone use?
Bush: Ahhh, that's my greatest plan of all, see now if I can stop the terrorists from using telephones, cell phones, earphones, headphones, megaphones, all types of phones, they won't be able to talk to each other. If they can't talk to each other they can't plan things or make threats or do any of that nasty terrorist stuff.
Reporter: How are you planning on stopping terrorists from using phones?
Bush: Well I'm going to make it illegal under the new "Apple Pie and Baseball, God Bless America Act". Under this act, it's unamerican to use telephones, and it's illegal to be unamerican because terrorists are unamerican.
Reporter: But how bad would it be if we stopped using telephones? What if there's an emergency and you need to use a phone?
Bush: Emergency? What emergency? Are you hiding something? Are you a terrorist?
Reporter: That's the most rediculous thing I've heard, what makes you think I'm a terrorist?
Bush: AHA! Only a terrorist would say something like that! Seize her!

Ever think it's because the guy from pixar felt bad for ripping Mouse off and wanted to tell him what Disney was doing? Maybe they came up with some sort of deal, Mouse probably got mad for some reason or another (maybe there was supposed to be some reference to him in the DVD and becaus there wasn't he's suing all of a sudden.) It would explain why this lawsuit took so long (and the DVD just recently came out.
I was just wondering but why "THIS IS BORING"? Did you ask her to write the program in Visual Basic, or did she actually want to? If you ask her to make stuff in Visual Basic because you'd like a daughter that is a programmer, then she's not going to get very good, she's just going to get very bored with it and give up. I really hope she decided to try programming on her own (although Visual Basic isn't a good thing to start with.)
The possibilities of using lasers to deflect incoming asteroids & comets are also under discussion
Scientist: Ok *pointing to a screen* here is a little demonstation of our ship, and if you notice the propulsion system here the ship will accelerate very quickly. And here's a shot of it shooting asteroids with the high powered laser, we are guessing the asteroids will break up when shot so we will make sure the laser can quickly destroy any little asteroids as you can see here. Any questions? Ah you in the back *pointing to a reporter*
Reporter: Yes, well I have one question, isn't that just the game asteroids for atari?
Scientist: NO FURTHER QUESTIONS *storms out quickly*
Co-operating with federal investigators? Do you think they did that in jail? No it was more like
Police: get in jail
You: Why?
Police: We said, GET IN JAIL!
You: I said WHY!
Police: Looks like we've got a trouble maker
*police throw you into jail*
You: Don't I get one phone call? Can't I speak to an attorney?
Police: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH BWAHAHAHAHAHA did you hear that george, he wants a phone call!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
3 weeks later
Police: Well you can get out now
You: What did I do? I'm going to sue the crap out of this police department!
Police: HAHAHAHA SUE US!?!?! Good luck buddy but thanks to new laws we were legally allowed to detain you for nothing more than being suspicious.
You: Well I'm going to get someone to believe me and we'll fight back.
This is where people like you come in...
You: Help! Help! I'm being repressed!
Other People: Whatever, that's what you get for being a terrorist ok.
You: A terrorist?!?! WHAT! I didn't do anything!!!
Other People: Sure you didn't, look at you, you're from palestine, you had to do SOMETHING!
Remind you of anything? Like the japanese during WW2 right after Pearl Harbor? Oh sure it's ok lock up all the Japanese, as long as they can't blow up any more of the armies bases we'll be fine, who cares if they'll be hated for the next few years and unable to get jobs after being arrested for absolutely no reason. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.
This idea of "protecting" and "defending" criminals who will then return the favour by doing all they can to destroy us is preposturous.
Actually I was talking about protecting and defending your rights and the rights of other people. You don't seem to understand what's going on in this country, do you realize how many people were arested in NYC the weeks following 9/11 just because they looked suspicious and held for very long amounts of time (the law saying that they couldn't hold you for more than 48 hours or whatever amount of time was lifted.) They were given no right to an attorney, no lawyers, no phone call, no trial. If I were arrested I could have been sent to jail for 3 weeks, not been told what I did, then released and not able to fight back. Terrorists didn't take away our rights or liberties, the government did.
I'll use my liberties in this democracy to strongly defend not only those people who would take away my liberties, but also to keep a government that will protect my liberties using every possible measure available.
You will use your liberties to defend people who would take away the liberties and also a government that will protect your liberties by every possible measure available (by taking them away)? Wow so basically you're giving up your liberties and the liberties of all other citizens just so terrorists can't take away your liberties? Umm wait who has the power to give and take liberties... THE GOVERNMENT. So let's defend the government the only being capable of taking away liberties to stop terrorists from taking away our liberties (which they can't do anyway... I hope this eventually sinks through, only the GOVERNMENT can take away liberties and they've been doing that for over a year now.)
Ok whatever, live in a dream world where your liberties are protected by having them taken away by the government. I think based on the current president that most Americans are fucking retarded.
Why should people who want to destroy us, and take away our livihood, and remove our liberties have any right?
What the hell is wrong with you. You're like every other idiot in this country that thinks "Well G Dubbaya is taking away rights of certain people so that I can keep mine and live a happy life." It reminds me of something I read a while ago -
In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and still I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. If you change communists to terrorists, jews to muslims, trade unionists to hackers, you basically have the situation of today.
Ever wonder why new cell phones have so many useless features? It's the phone companies plans to distract stupid people while they're driving to kill them off. Pipeline Mass Transit?

Maybe you should come to NY... I live in a small part of NYC (Staten Island) and even here there are buses that run 24/7. A bus usually comes every half hour all day. There's also a ferry that goes to manhatten (when people talk about NYC, they're usually talking about manhatten), from staten island, at least every hour (every 15 minutes during rush hour.) There's the metro north also, I can take a train to just about any place in the state of NY for a few dollars. The buses and subways cost $1.50 (the ferry is free and express buses are like coaches, comfy seats and stuff, they're $3.)
There's also this great little card called a metrocard. You can go to just about any deli or small store or whatever and pick one up. They usually have $15 metrocards, they work on buses and trains, when you get on the bus you just stick the card in the slot and get on, very quick and very easy. You can refill them too, much easier than carrying change or tokens. The trains have turnstyles so you just slide the card through and go through the turnstyle. You can also transfer from one thing to the next, like lets say you needed to take the S74 (S is for staten island, 74 is the route) to the ferry and needed to get onto the 1 train in manhatten, you just pay for the bus and on the metrocard you get a transfer (or you ask the driver for one if you payed with tokens or change) and you get onto the train for free.

The hard drives have removable trays, you pull the latch back, and slide the tray out. Very easy to do while the computer is on and everything is plugged in (although for your hardwares safety I wouldn't recommend doing work in the computer while it's on.) You put the new hard drive onto the tray and screw it in, then you slide the tray back into the case and close the little latch, it locks into place. There are also rails for the 5.25" drives. You screw the rails onto the drive and then slide the drive into the case, it locks into place. Then you can squeeze the two rails and slide the drive out if you want. It's very simple to do anything in this case, and it's very large so it's easy to work in. The only problem I have is the mother board tray isn't removable, but the case is big enough for that to not matter.

People who wouldn't have bought an xbox in the first place spend money on them so they can install linux and put in mod chips. Now lets say only 400 people buy xboxes to just mod or install linux. That's 400 xboxen sold that wouldn't have been sold otherwise, that's nearly $60,000 (if the price they sell to retailers is $150 an xbox) for microsoft which is not alot of money but hey it's more than the $0 they would have made if those people never bought their xboxen. Sure microsoft might spend money from their own pockets to make an xbox, but they lose that money completely when you don't buy an xbox, at least when you buy an xbox they make some of it back.
So what do I need to do the same project? I suppose:
Premiere, Beefy Windows-based Machine (XP? 98? 2000?) - I'm guessing 2000, but that's just a guess - So I have to downgrade. And the right video card - Oh my gosh! Which one shall I get? Hmm.. And I forgot: I need a FIREWIRE card b/c they aren't standard on most PCs. Oh crap. Firewire drivers, Oh yeah - video card drivers. What, there's a conflict (IRQ?) between my add-on FW card and my add-on HD. CRAP! See what I mean?
Ummm actually I did video editing with my windows/linux PC. It required, firewire card (most new motherboards have firewire built in, I have an old 600PIII), my computer (Windows 98, 600 PIII, 256 RAM, 120 gig hard drive, GeForce 3 Ti200, SB Audigy Platiunum, 21" monitor, all under $1,000), and Adobe Premier. No IRQ conflicts, no video card drives (well I had to install the video card but when you build your own, that usually happens, if I bought a PC pre-built it wouldn't require that step), no beefy computer, I can use any version of windows I like, no special video card, just the one I wanted.
I can also edit video in Linux, works nicely and the software was free. Don't say something like "Well you needed to buy a firewire card!" because
1) I already had one (came free with my DV camera)
2) Unless you have a mac that's as old as my 600 PIII that came with firewire, you have no point. Sure the new ones come with it, but any new computers come with firewire.
She actually was trying to write a Mac switch story but the little paper clip guy in Office wasn't letting her
I see you're writing a story that goes against Microsoft, please cease and decist or I'll shutdown your computer. Come on we can pay you to write a Mac to PC story...
The new codec requires 3 to 4 times as much CPU power than MPEG-2 to process the video.
Long ago, in the before time, when I had an Athlon XP 2100+ (1.73 GHz, before I fried it and got thrown back to a 1.4 GHz athlon and then I fried that and got thrown back to a 600 PIII) I was able to rip DVD's and convert them to DivX in real time (a little faster actually, around 34 fps.) Now I don't know the differences between MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 but 3 to 4 times as much CPU power doesn't sound too pleasing. Right now I'm riping a DVD, err wait no, I don't do things like that it's illegal. Hypothetically speaking, if I were ripping a DVD right now, there would be 20 hours left because on a 600P III DVD's take a long time to convert to DivX (or so I'm told.) It takes all day for me... err not me, it takes all day for a person with a 600 PIII to convert a DVD to DivX. *shudders thinking about when that person ripped the Matrix for 30 hours and had 3 files, 2 700 meg files and one 50 meg file*
Ok picture this scenario, it's 2030, the linux kernel config hasn't been touched, and you FINALLY got your, spouse/parents/relatives/neighbor/friend/whoever to install linux. They need to recompile their kernel for USB support. You tell them "Well just open a console go into the/usr/src/linux directory and type make menuconfig.", they say "Console? Type? Make menuconfig? Wha?" Linux is in dire need of a kernel config that's easy to use, easy to update, expandable, whatever. This seems like it's going to be just that. Oh yeah, I have no problems with make menuconfig, it's mostly for kernel developers and people who don't know much about configuring kernels.

You tell them "Well just open a console go into the /usr/src/linux directory and type make menuconfig.", they say "Console?
Wow multiple computers compiling one thing, imagine a beowulf clus.... errr nevermind
