For those of you with better things to do than follow weblog community matters, Dave Winer is a narcissistic asshole who will do almost anything to get attention including revising history, throwing temper tantrums, slamming other people (but later denying he did it) and taking his ball and going home. He jealously guards technologies he helped create and hinders any efforts to help them grow from pet projects into community standards because he doesn't want to lose the spotlight. Most people who know him have learned to ignore him because complaining about his petulant behavior is pointless.
What really needs to happen is at least part of what the article suggests -- the movie needs a talented director (aka, not Lucas).
Good idea, but as far as I know principal photography finished half a year ago so all of George Lucas' direction is complete. Only the editing and special effects remain.
DK2/The Dark Knight Strikes Again was under rated, Miller rules!
Miller does rule but boy did Dark Knight Strikes Again suck. In my humble opinion, of course. Most of it was a poor rehash of Dark Knight Returns and it contained only a few inspired ideas like using the Flash to generate electricity.
Where I once spent countless hours in front of a computer or console playing games, now that I'm older I can't stand the thought of sitting at home alone and spending that much time on one. I'd feel like a loser.
You overlooked the entire point of that subplot. The starship Riker was asked to command was one of the first to be destroyed by the Borg. In this particular case turning down a promotion was a good move.
I'd be amazed if that demo actually still worked...
I installed the demo in Windows XP and it works fine. I'm very impressed with the training missions so far. I look forward to getting into the rest of the demo and then the real version.
I know a guy who is so upset at Peter Jackson for bastardizing the books that he refuses to enjoy them on any level or understand why people like the movies. I've seen him attempt to use this overly critical and encyclopedic knowledge of the mundane to pick up chicks and believe me, it isn't a pretty sight.
After the women left he was sulking in a corner and said something cruel and sexist about them. When I finally lost my patience and told him he reminded me of Denethor he stopped talking to me! Blessing in disguise, really.
If this final movie is any good it might be easier to pretend George Lucas just made a prequel to A New Hope 21 years after Return of the Jedi and deny Episodes I and II ever happened. Episodes III-VI will be canon.
One other thing to consider... back when we were all learning how to program we did it because we had to. The internet wasn't around to give kids one click access to all the Flash games they wanted to play. With more consumers than producers only the die-hard enthusiast bothers learning how to program now.
I'd be interested in such a book for myself, never mind kids.
I faithfully typed in C=64 programs for years never minding that I wasn't learning much from such densely packed, often unreadable code. BASIC wasn't necessarily the problem, rather that memory restrictions and magazine space issues prevented most people from organizing code well. Comments were lost, multiple statements crammed onto the same line, etc.
I agree with whoever said that kids wouldn't be interested in such things today. We have to accept that interests have changed and web page building has replaced classic programming in the minds of novices. The biggest obstacle to a "fun" programming book is the appalling lack of built-in or bundled programming languages with new computers. As much as I enjoy using languages like PHP and Java I think they are much too complicated for the newbie. We should either bring back traditional BASIC with tighter syntax requirements, popularize a version of LOGO with hooks to graphics routines and the ability to build a complete clickable app or popularize some other similar easy to use language for first timers. Only then might we see a renewed interest in learning how to program.
Years ago when BITNet was the only connection to the world from campus, a friend and I using the library VAX stumbled upon a way to use PHONE to contact people at another campus. Unfortunately for us, the person we contacted was an operator and within twelve hours those permissions were revoked without a word.

Try using quotes around the term "box set" so you don't end up with sites about ugly televisions.
I heard the Wilhelm scream twice during Return of the King. And once during The Two Towers. I don't recall if it made its way into Fellowship of the Ring but I'm sure it's in there somewhere.
Kerry's home toilet paper, the tabloid Boston Herald, hasn't endorsed anyone yet either.
Point taken, Anonymous Coward.
There. Now you're up to speed.
As the height of skyscrapers grows based on page visits, porn buildings will quickly look like... well, porn.
Anyone know of PC-compatible old style steering wheels that can spin 360 degrees?

The RIAA wants to keep you from recording digital radio broadcasts!
Bad news: You'd die Bad news: You'd be so aware of it happening...
Excellent link. Thanks for posting it.
Too bad searching for anna.wmv in Google only returns links from pr0n sites...
Excellent user interface. Nice recommendation. (hint: mod parent way up)

Let's hope he stays there. Or bathes.
