True, dubs aren't always exactly on...but they *do* allow lots more people to enjoy the show. I tend to like watching dubs if I haven't seen it before (can watch the whole picture more easily) or if other people watching aren't as used to subs. Some of the translation stuff, one has to remember, is done to match the lips on screen. The acting has to change time as well. Given that, some of the dubs out there are really pretty good. Ever see something that they just say what was originally said, ignoring the lips? (Bubblegum Crisis is like that) It's *really* bad. I actually like the dubs better for some things...like Nadesico and El Hazard for instance. Since there's a lot of situational only humor or plays on words, the translation to English makes it easier to enjoy (for me). I also don't speak Japanese. I do like subs better overall, if only because it's the orginal performance and such, but that's not to say I don't appreciate the dubs too. I think that the Eva title roughly translates to "The Gospel for the New Century". Whereas the English would be something like "New Gospel Beginning" or something like that. I have turned on dub and watched the sub before, and seen series both dubbed and subbed. Where there *are* lines changed, the main point stays the same. Cowboy Bebop and Inuyasha have pretty good dubs I think. In truth I've barely watched Inuyasha on CN, but I have seen up into the 40s fansubbed... Bebop has some great performances I think. I can't truly judge the Japanese because I don't speak it, and I keep that in mind whenever I hear a cheesy sounding dub too ^_^
Hard to say. If you check Apple's site and see how the "Switchers" come about...they write in a letter about their experience and get selected. So perhaps they're reading a cleaned up version of their testamonial scripted by Apple, whatever.
It could be noted that Tony Hawk (at least) doesn't have a "switch" storyline. He talks about using Final Cut Pro, which is a pretty common tale in the video industry. From his letter on Apple's site, FCP and the iPod seem to be what he's into...which to me makes sense. Of course, there's already an ad using the iPod, so FCP was used.
Well, I'd say that a home theater to rival a standard theater would be more like $600-1000 nowdays, but even then it would certainly take a decent amount of movies to negate the cost of staying home...but...your math doesn't account for one thing:
Other people can watch for that $5-6 when you rent the movie. Heck, after $6-7 for a ticket plus a few bucks for snacks, I'm at least halfway to buying a DVD (not counting $10 ones). However, if I get a DVD, my roommates and friends can also watch for no extra cash. At a theater they all have to pony up $6 too.
If everyone goes out and rents or buys a movie with the cash they would have spent at the theater, a whole circle of friends can see several movies for the same cost that they could go see one or two movies in the theater for.
I doubt it. Heck, the Bible talks about each spouses body being the others. It gives lust as a reason to get married (rather than be tempted outside marriage).
As I've heard it "If God didn't want us to have sex, he would have made it so we just layed eggs!".
Maybe they weren't out there revelling in it, but that doesn't mean that they weren't doin' it when the door was closed. AFIAK the ones that have had issue with birth control were the Catholics (and perhaps closely spun off protestants like Lutherans, I dunno).
Be didn't abandon Apple, Apple denied them access to the G3 motherboard information they needed to port the OS to it. Actually, I think the G3 processor information was needed, as upgrade cards weren't even supported.
It was a shame though, that Be just didn't seem to have the ability to do anything right except the OS...
Well, this isn't the first I've read on this. The device is not something that is meant for export, but rather to be an "affordable" computing device for India. I'd imagine that the case is being designed for cost effectiveness and durability over looking spiffy. Also, trendy here is not necessarily trendy in India. Or possibly they want it to appear as a non-luxury item. Somehow I doubt there's advanced marketing going on at this point, but it's hard to dismiss it entirely...
Of course, there are ones in the States that if they're not titanium, it's close. My m505 is pretty close to the look and feel (of the case material) of my TiBook. Also, I think there was a Visor Edge that was titanium-ish. I think most use Magnesium instead of Titanium though.
SSX: Tricky also had DTS sound (in game) and it was sweet... Gamecube only does Pro Logic II, as it has no digital out.
Though one has to wonder, if you care that much about DVDs and have the surround system to use DTS, would you be using a console? Heck, most people I know with a PS2 (including myself) don't use it for DVDs because it can't switch layers correctly/read the second layer right, and so only works to watch part of a movie. I've yet to hear the same complaint with the XBox.
More like OpenDoc...er..but Apple killed that.
*sigh*

Nope, the Altivec instructions are done in "128-bit" by using 4 parallel 32-bit paths. Otherwise the G4 is a 32-bit CPU.
