GNOME 2.20 Released

I see the source file is written in C# to be run on a.NET environment, which are both M$ technologies covered by whatever patents. If I were to run it on a Linux distro which has a deal with M$ to cover such patents, as Novell Suse, fine. Otherwise, please keep this stinking proprietary junk outta my free distros and outta free pure C projects like Gnome.
1. vim (any kind of text editing) 2. elinks (mainly for reading html documentation, but browsing the web is ok too! hey, no flash fat!) 3. xmms (media-playing) 4. gnumeric (spreadsheets)
unix, unique, union... nothing more detached from the truth: Unix companies are always fighting each other, building conflicting standards, and letting the real enemy safely escape...
truth be told, it's not like that at all. Big bloated IDEs like Eclipse, VS or Netbeans run all at about the same speed at today's hardware. There used to be a time when Emacs was huge and bloated but came to be known as light next to the commercial IDEs. The same applies today to these IDEs.
I still like vim best though. Semantic code-completion is nice, but 90% of the time, simple text completion will do just fine.
be very sad when it seems the only reason why emergency medicine evolves is to sustain the war-industry and its workers and victims... sounds like both cause and effect...
I wouldn't go as far as say it's disgusting -- unless all you know about it is what you see in porn, like sluts bathing in cum or whatever. But it's certainly a very disrupting moment.
I mean, one moment you're there, having a nice dinner and good conversation with a beautiful woman in a stylish restaurant. The other moment you two are naked, sweating, in uncanny positions, talking dirty shit, exchanging saliva etc.
It's very unlike anything your social skills have ever prepared you to.
"Very few people want to actually *DO* anything anymore, other than be entertained."
Perfect! Finish him!
OTOH, youtube shows average joes being entertained by other joes! Please make it stop! Please let me know there's more to modern humor than seeing fat people dancing, cats falling and a general trends towards bodily fluids!
Entertainment and fun always remind me of a drooling, cheetos-encrusted fatty staring at a display in the sofa. One step to the drool-filled suspension pods for the Matrix-connected vegetable human...
ssh is the "secure shell". A better shell for online transactions than telnet. It was in fact consciously designed as a replacement for the aging telnet.
ssl stands for "secure socket layers". It's a protocol allowing for secure http transactions.

are much easier to write down with a pen and glue to my coworkers' monitors.
never seen the utility for it in software...
I hope *nix continue to be about C and scripting and forget about the huge bloated redundant VMs temptation...
You actually get Insightful for comparing tasered people in a democracy to dead people in dictatorships.
what next? Will you compare not having a PS3 with HDTV to living in subsaharian africa?
In case people who modded him Insightful don't notice, this isn't supposed to be Funny. this is sad and depressing...

"pushing code into kernel space, etc). Linux can technically have it all now too"

this has been into GoogleEarth since day 1. and yes flying the Grand Canyon is fucking amazing...
just keep walking, man. and try to enjoy the ride while it's still not downhill...
yeah, shame he's gone for copy-paste, rather than true OO inheritance and polymorphism... ;)
true. time is the best filter out there. :)
I still have a feeling though that very few crap from these days will survive like crap from older days...

funny, I believe music has been crap ever since the death of Beethoven...
stop that peyote consumption, man!
I think the biggest problem with music nowadays is precisely *because* it is an industry, pumping out cheap garbage down consumers throa... err, ears.
Please, let talented musicians make music rather than performers, dancers, top-models or junkies.

"Those were the days when Microsoft was proud to be Unix-alike."
yeah, except for the stupid backslashes, which are very un-Unix and un-C.
"It's bound to my 5th mouse button"
Steve Jobs will sue you for that blasphemy against Mac tech. I believe he thinks even 1 button mouse is too much!
"felt". pardon my english...
and an Apple ][ emulator too! Being retro never feeled so slick! :)
I'm crossing my fingers for a videogame console emulator!

a chemestry major? I'm sure you'll need a cluster of PS3s to do real time chemical reaction simulations... :)
protocol?
