I read once somewhere that these 'blackboxes' may be vital in making your airbag and other critical operations work. Removing them based off of privacy concerns (AKA fear of getting caught) may be foolish. I know removal may be suggested multiple times.
Chatgris: "Oh come on, its nothing like what Microsoft does"
I was referring to Microsofts tendency to include everything and the kitchen sink with an Operating System, e.g. Media player, Internet Explorer, Games etc
Of all the operating systems that come to mind, linux distros, bsds, macOS and solaris I'd have to say that Microsoft includes the least number of programs with its OS. A typically linux distro has hundreds of applications compared to MS Windows's uhm... 10? Not that is relevant to the real topic (motherboard) but anyway...
Upon further inspection it looks like many of the insiders have been exercising options (buying at a deal) and selling short the same day or so... sure looks bad:P
I don't pretend to be a stock market genius but this is interesting too.. http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=SCOX Doesn't that page basically say that all insider trading since June of 2003 has been selling. Shouldn't shareholders be concerned with almost 10 months of insider selling?
I don't know what his definition is... My definition is a distro suitable for newbies to install and maintain. Mandrake is, xandros is, gentoo isn't, slack isn't. Newbie distro means that a newbie is the minimum target.
Now of course someone will come along and say well gentoo is easy to install, slackware is easy to install... and that is of course their opinion. The more instructions a product needs the worst it is for a newbie.
I'll use c# over java as long as I possibly can as well. If there was only a good IDE for c# (mono) on linux... If java run as well as c# I'd use it though.
Same here.. I setup linux on my mom's machine because she was sick of windows crashing (win98) and didn't want to upgrade to winxp. All she was worried about was her flash and java games and the little games like solitare etc. Linux comes with way more little games than windows so its perfect for women like her I suppose.
Isn't there a better solution?

I'm not wizz at internal networking stuffs but it seams to me like any attack that requires flooding of any kind would be extremely simple to block. Is it that hard to monitor the same IP hitting you a X rate? If not then block it! This should be a standard piece of software on all servers... am I missing something here? Or is this something like UDP which is 'connectionless' so you couldn't block any particular IP(s)? (I thought TCP no UDP was used in http).
In a country with so few and lose laws Microsoft still manages to pull off a win. I wonder if the Netherlands received any money from Microsoft hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Check out 7-zip http://www.7-zip.org/. It supports rars, zips etc but I use its own 7zip format most of the time which USUALLY is much smaller than a rar even.

"Zip file management has virtually been absorbed into both Windows..."
What the crud are you talking about? The first utility that is installed on every Windows box I touch is WinZip; there is no zip file access under windows without it. Not only that, but I asked a few colleagues just now and we all had a quick chuckle about the idea that Windows knows how to make heads or tails of a zip file.
How long has windowsXP been and you still don't know some of the new features it gave windows users? Zip support has been in winXP since day one. It amazes me that not only did you not know this but you also asked colleagues and they didn't either and on top of that you all laughed about your ignorance. How amusing.
I've never used or encountered a user of either actually that I can recall but I do regularly visit distrowatch to stay up to date.
The user base may be small for these two distros but the distros themselves are active at least. In my experience people who use smaller distros are quiet about it. It seams like they like what they have and are knowledgeable about it so they need no / little support. That's probably as a result of the majority of the user base being developers or something close to it.
rutledjw: "What bullshit. There is nobody who's going to confuse microsoft with mikerowesoft."
You must have amazing hearing to be able to tell the difference between Mikerowesoft and Microsoft. Maybe you could tell us all your trick? Again broken down to its simplest form...
Both names provide technology in the same areas.. the web, programming/scripting what have you, both have an identical name with the only difference being spelling. Microsoft was here first. Sounds very simple to me...
It says in several places that he offers web site services. IMHO that means he is offering computer services under a name that is intentionally to be mistaken as microsoft.. He uses that entire domian name as his business name Mikeroesoft. He is NOT selling software as far as i could find (site is slashdotted for me now too) so why would he have soft in his name? OHHHH thats right, to mislead and use microsoft's name. It couldnt' be any more deliberate or obvious really. If this goes to court he'll get laughed at and lose potentially a lot of money.
The only way that this could be wrong is on Slashdot... Opening a restaurant called MickDonalds wouldn't be acceptable nor would a WaltMart. But hey... this is Slashdot! Right or wrong everything Microsoft does is hated >>:[
"enkafan: Assuming they wrote the same code, it would compile into the same IL. If you would have looked at the IO code in question, you'd notice this:..."
I should have been a little more clear... My point was that they used old VB style instead of vb.net style so that it wouldn't be identical to c#.

The last 28330 readers "writes" but this reader "points out". I'm amazed by the change.

With deflation they are going to make a killing off of selling 100 year renewels to fools. Well that and the likleyhood of prices dropping.
10 dollars paid 100 years in advance.. think about it people.
You've convinced me to do an experiment...
I need 200 volunteers. Only 12 or so of you will make it through this experiment but it is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
So you are saying you stole a bunch of whistles?

Which of course is damn near 85 million dollars most likely.. what a good day to the RIAA!

"Otter: TurboLinux is essentially gone, I haven't heard a peep about Connectiva in at least a year"
TurboLinux recently released TurboLinux 10 just a few months ago, they aren't gone.. they've been fairly active too.
Connectiva just recently released Conectiva Linux 10 TP2 2 days ago.
Both of these distros are not dead! They have pretty up to date packages and all!

VB.net compiles into the same thing as c#, it SHOULD have benchmarked the exact same and so there would have been no point.
"... Men who drank 6 cups of coffee a day lowered their risk by 50% ..."
Since I drink a few pots a day + pepsi that means I have somewhere around -200% risk and my blood may be used to treat Diabetes no?
Irish software has always been a constant problem for me. It works like its drunk if it bothers to at all. Irish Free Software.. YAY!
