Whats the best form of advertising in my opinion? Recommendation within reviews perhaps, text ads and similar methods. ITS CALLED TARGETING, something that is beyond most ad companies.
I don't understand all the ins and outs of networking perfectly but it seams this would be simple..
1.) You enter the "hot spot" 2.) The terminal picks up your network card and gets the mac address 3.) If your network card is set on DHCP then no matter what URL you bring up it redirects you to a payment gateway 4.) after you pay you get to go anywhere:)
Sounds too easy to me, perhaps this isn't possible hehe..

Why can't electric companies take advantage of this with their electric poles? They can run all their network stuff side by side with their electricity lines and then they could offer phone service / internet service via their network down areas that have nothign but poor dialup. And since they already have the job half done (poles / wiring up) it could be quite cost effective. They could even run the networking down the electric lines themselves, i saw on/. that being done in europe somewhere. Then they could just have some sort of converter to wifi from that.

From a business stand point it is a poor choice at this moment to go with mac over pc. Its a more costly solution with no clear advantages over a pc FROM A BUSINESS STANDPOINT.
From personal use, if someone has the money why not use a mac? But for a more economical purchase i have to say go with a PC/Linux.

Fun Solution/Personal Preference: MAC
Cheap/Business Solutions: Linux/PC
Popular/Average Business Solution: m$/PC
Primarily the thing that bothers me is the deceiving marketing tactics currently being used in macs switch campaign. This bothers me more than LindowsOS advertising.
Are you assuming this would be a world wide law and fully enforcable? Or did you forget that there are hundreds of other countries that do not have to abide by any of our laws in the US.
A good majority of spam already comes from outside the US.

My simple point, macs are.. Expensive, Not upgradable (for reasonable costs if possible), are falling behind on software.
So what do macs have going for them? They use their stupid switch commericals to get people who "don't know any better" to switch to macs which is decieving marketing (like intels clockspeed marketing), they claim ease of use which very well could be but thats like prefering a toaster over a microwave because the toaster is easier.
It takes ignorance to run a mac, it really does...
they are (as compared to a PC):
1.) Expensive
2.) Perform poorer @ most things
3.) Not upgradable

No matter what i do my laptop is one hot sucker! Especially when i have it docked, whoever made my docking station (all from Dell) they decided to block my fans on the back of the laptop when I dock it.
Sometimes the better thing is simply a more well though out design, all this newer technology is good too of course but people need to stop substituting higher technology for stupidity.
1.) they buy the compiled code (cheapest) 2.) they buy the source code + compiled code (more expensive)
I've also worked out with a few clients that they can have the compiled code, the source code (my clients rarely bother with doing anything to the source code) and we have a little agreement that they can resell the source for us. This has worked out pretty well.

And i need to developer asp.net, easiest to do on windows, lets face facts.. asp.net blows the doors off anything linux has to offer.
Other than those 2 things i only run linux. @ work i have to run windows since Linux has no acceptable replacment for Microsoft Access
Sadly a lot of poeople deserve to be laid off, all they do is dick off 90% of the day. Sure i dick off 90% of the day but my job is tech support and to baby sit the few servers we have, some days i'm very overwhelmed others i spend on slashdot.
When layoffs come a lot of the people you want gone are the ones who go first, the people who piss everyone off. Also, when layoffs come so do early retirement, when the "old people" get out, new thinking gets in, new thinking is almost always good!

Its already been available to linux for quite some time. This has been done with the regular version rather than the server version.
