I trust the news they report, but more then once, while visiting their site, some advertiser of theirs installs some sort of browsing enhancement thing on my computer. (Similar to gator.)
.. so they will most likely end up using a hacked-up version of the Windows Media format. I mean, who knows how many different back doors and tracking devices Microsoft has implemented.
The Quadro-based workstation renders a single frame in four-tenths of a second, allowing for an interactive, real-time CG scene. For comparison, a single frame from the original movie took over 90 minutes to render.
Sheesh. Read the news posts before making up headlines!
At the risk of being redundant..

.. why doesn't somebody just code up a worm similar to Code Red, but applies the IIS server patch? It could be done anonymously, just like the worms are.. I'd do it myself, but I'm not a coder. =/
As for reviewing the game: We will send out review copies soon, but we would like to ask that you hold back on a full review until we have solved these problems.
Part of what I do for a living is write reviews of games -- I love gaming, have been doing it for years, so I am more or less able to judge a good game and a bad game.
Anarchy Online people: The minute your product hit the shelves is the minute that we, as an industry, get to review your game. What, it still has problems? Then it shouldn't have been released in the first place. Period.
(if someone actually has an important, legit reason for using a messenger service, please correct me...).
Grr. Igornace;-) I work for GameSpy Industries. (Specifically, I run 3DActionPlanet.) Now, the offices are in Irvine, California. (By contrast, I live in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.) Now, one of the benefits of running a website for a living is that it can be done remotely. I have anybody who I would need to talk to about work on my ICQ list -- if I need to ask a question about policy, I ICQ the big boss and get a response fast. Looking for somebody to write a preview of a game? I just look on my '3DAP Writers' group and see who's online.
So, there ARE legitimate, work-related uses for instant messanger software. =)
Yes, I'm a Windows user. (No, it isn't because I'm too lazy to install linux. Rather, I work for a company which requires that I be fairly up-to-date on the latest 3d shooter games. Linux simply doesn't have the titles fast enough.)
I'm saddened to see that some moderator thought the parent post was flaimbait -- on the contrary, what really makes up linux -IS- the people, the community. I, for one, support krmt. Hear hear!
There IS hope. Since Jar Jar never made an appearance in the first 3 movies (IV, V, and VI), we KNOW he has to die in the next two movies somewhere. =) *Grin*
Would you be willing to contact me via ICQ? I'd like to get my hands on a copy, but, alas, I don't know ANYTHING about downloading stuff from newsgroups. >:)
I've tried looking on gnutella, but the only thing that keeps coming back is DIVX copies of The Phantom Menace. (Even though I am searching for "The Phantom Edit". Go Figure.) Perhaps I am connecting to the wrong network, though;-)
The article in question also speaks of "The Phantom Edit".. however, my attempts at locating a copy online have failed miserably. Does anybody know where I can find a copy?
We have made the Government Gateway compatible with as many browsers as possible, on both PCs and Macintoshes. However, because we need to maintain maximum security on this web site, we cannot support older versions of browsers. To use the Government Gateway, you must have:
a PC, with Windows 95 or later, or Windows NT 4.0 or later with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 or later or Netscape Navigator version 4.08 or later
OR an Apple Macintosh with Mac OS version 7.5 or later with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or later or Netscape Navigator version 4.xx or later
a working Internet connection
the 128-bit security add-in, for your version of the browser
I think this shows a HUGE amount of class on the part of Hormel. They know that it won't hurt sales of their product, they're not suing anybody, or anything like that. They're being mature about it. I tip my hat to you, sirs.
Wolfenstein E3 Trailer Never to See the Light of Day Again?
by Thrrrpptt! Friday, May 25, 2001
Just got this email from Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer on Return to Castle
Wolfenstein:
I've been reading quite a bit lately (on a number of different forums) that
a lot of people are waiting to see the "Return To Castle Wolfenstein"
E3 trailer. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this is going to happen anytime
soon. Let me explain.
When the trailer was originally cut for the show we used a music track called
"Bishop's Countdown" from the movie "Aliens". We were told
at the time that the rights to the music had been secured through Fox (owner
of the "Aliens" property and the parent company of Fox Interactive).
And they were. Activision had indeed paid a large sum of money for the rights
and we were free and clear to make our trailer.
We fully expected to make it available via download after the show (as everyone
else has recently done) but unfortunately this was not to be the case. Just
hours before the start of E3 our fine friends from Fox Interactive were granted
a special request to preview the trailer. Immediately following the private
showing they decided it wasn't in their best interest to allow us to use the
music or make it available for download. It was (and still is) the belief of
Fox Interactive that by allowing us to do so would cause "confusion"
in the marketplace between "Return To Castle Wolfenstein" and "Aliens
vs. Predator 2". I'll leave it up to you to decide.
Hopefully, those of you who went to E3 enjoyed the trailer. It captured the
essence of what "Wolfenstein" is shaping up to be and was edited with
100% game play footage from the current build of the game. Unfortunately, unless
someone captured it via camcorder (from one of the monitors) and makes it available
on their own accord, it will most likely never be shown again.
Man, that sucks. The trailer was really cool and I was looking forward to seeing
it again. If anyone hears of its being released, make sure you send me a note.
There is a thread
on the 3DActionPlanet boards about this topic that you can reply to if you
think Fox is just trying to pull a dirty trick to prevent the promotion of a
rival game (or, for that matter, if you think they are NOT).
I wish FOX would follow Hormel's lead. They could learn something.
(For the record, this post isn't intended as off-topic or flamebait or trolling. Just an observation.)
If you have the connection to sustain a connect, you can find pretty much ANY mp3 you want on Gnutella. (For hosts, connect to *Surprise* gnutellahosts.com:6346)
I'm currently running a Win32 box for gaming, so I use both LimeWire and BearShare, although BearShare has been a touch flaky lately. Not sure why.
It should be the radio stations that are afraid of this, not the RIAA. It's the type of thing that could make radio obsolete.
In my eyes, radio died a LONG time ago. Here in Winnipeg, there are 3 different radio stations devoted to "what's new" or "what's hot". It's a load of crap -- radio is no longer about the music, it is about selling CDs. I actively avoid stations like Hot103, which plays a constant stream of hip hop, pop, and rap. The DJs don't play music they like, they play music they are paid to play. It's like one 24/7 commercial.
I felt the same way about Survivor and the other reality TV shows. I avoided them as well. Why? They're just a stupid marketing gimmick.
However, I DO listen to radio stations that play OLD stuff. (Not ICKY old, like the Beatles.. Led Zeplin, old Metallica before they were sell outs.) This is GOOD radio playing good music.
I have to admit that I'm not familiar with LaunchCast, but it doesn't sound like they're doing anything wrong, except giving people the chance to hear what they'd like and not what the RIAA likes.
What Launch(Cast) does is this -- you start listening to music, which plays every different kind of genre imaginable. However, as you listen to them, you rate the songs -- yes, I liked Nine Inch Nails, no I didn't like Britney Spears, etc etc etc. Eventually, the system (which is errily accurate) figures out what kinds of music that you like, and stops playing the rest of the crap.
Heh. What most people don't know is that the human eye can't recognize anything more then 70FPS (ISH; depends on the individual). You can't distinugish anything above that. 100FPS will look like 200FPS.
I've noticed that at each E3 event, the number of boothbabes (and amount of clothing they are (or aren't) wearing) at a given booth is inversely proportional to the level of anticipation a game has.
For example, a game like "Space Bunnies Must Die" had TONS of boothbabes, because nobody gave a crap about the game. =)
This is absolutely correct -- my parents treated me as though I was 18 when I was 15. (Responsibility wise, not alcohol wise.) Now that I am 19, I am able to solve problems myself -- I am fairly independant.
The Lone Gunman filed simply because the writers tried to expand characters that were originally created for a supporting role into full-blown characters. There simply wasn't enough.. ahem.. meat to them.
Want to fight back? There is a super easy way to doing it.
First, report all spam you get. It's easier then you think too -- Spamcop is a great free service which parses the headers of a spam and reports it for you automagically. It's pretty keen.
Second, check out Sneakemail to prevent spam from reaching you -- period. (See the Sneakemail descripion for a full explanation of how it works. Suffice to say, it is tres cool.)
It's happened to me twice in the last two weeks. I know, I wouldn't have believed it either.
