Remember the Gmail Machine, the page that generated a random number and it if matched the correct one you "won" a gmail invite? That page was PHP and for every hit it locked the counter file, did the increment and unlocked, that page did approx 7M views in the 8ish hours it lived on my server. When it was mentioned on the screen savers they thought they killed the box, I had apache setup to throttle max connections and the load avg never went above 3.6 serving 950+ pages/sec. True, but if the flow is controlled by the system and not humans doing stupid things, it can make sure that lane is never "full" by utilizing the other lanes.

I'm not saying it would always move at max speed, but it would flow much smoother.

If you have ever seen what a freeway looks like from altitude it starts to make sense. I have seen the 405 in West L.A. from one of the near high rises and it moves a lot like an inch worm. Mostly because of the people making irratic lane changes and refusing to leave room for a car to merge into.

I use both methods only because VPC is easier with multiple OS installs and when I'm on the road I can still test. VPC is a dog, Remote Desktop is actually not bad if you don't mind having the extra box around.

If they're using WMP, it's possible that they only allow IE to access the video because MS says that's the way to do it. Otherwise, it's possible they're trying to cut down on people intercepting and re-broadcasting the movie.
Now I haven't touched WMP from a development perspective since Intertainer went away (2002), but I'll assume that things haven't changed. The WMP plugin sucks in everything but IE, the encryption never worked right in NS 4, and only recently became embedable on the Mac. I think the encryption is still for crap on the Mac.
I used another service that make the video full screen with controls right through the browser. Maybe they didn't feel comfortable enough making something like that work with all browsers.
Did that service happen to be the above mentioned service, Intertainer? That site was sweet, other than the shoddy video quality. But I am biased, I wrote 90%+ of the UI. ah, back when work was fun.

Blocking googls IPs isn't going to keep you from searching, but it will keep google off your site.

Example: A competitor that just happens to rank higher than you automatically drops packets from any IP that trys an invalid login.

You go through your logs and generate a list of all google's bots and then launch an "attack" against your competitor spoofing those IPs. You just stopped google from indexing their site. Move on to Yahoo and any other search engine you feel like.
