I mean come on, how are you going to deter (heterosexual) teen offenders other than sending them to an official, government run ass-reaming center? (Thats what prisons are, after all)
of course, and guilt or innocence matters not one bit, right?
I mean, if someone is *suspected* of terrorist activities then they *must* have been up to *something* so kill em. You are so lucky to live in the land of the free.
Advertising is an insidious and insulting attempt at mind control, whatever its form or motivation. I say ban *all* advertising (regardless of the consequences).
As for web ads, I think of it like this; 1. I pay by volume for traffic.
2. This cash goes to my ISP not the advertiser.
3. I pay for the ads that I download when I visit a website. This is wrong. Why should I pay to download an ad for a product that I have no interest in nor (usually) any way to purchase?
4. (and most importantly) My computers behavior is (or should be) under my control; I should have the right to control what my computer downloads from the internet. If I choose to filter content from websites, for whatever reason, that is MY business and noone elses.

As I understand it;
a couple of good-sized cobalt bombs (IIRC a nuke encased in cobalt) would effectively sterilise the planet; the radioactive cobalt would find its way into every ecosystem eventually (except *maybe* deep-crust bacteria colonies several miles down).
The cobalt cycle is very important to organic life. Radioactive cobalt will kill anything.
(I wonder how many of these the Russians or the USA has in their arsenal?)
Maybe those new Chinese MBT's with lasers that (IIRC) they claim can 'shoot down' incoming anti-tank missiles would be a target for these EM weapons? Or maybe not...
Except that it won't say things like "Error! This computer sucks and therefore refuses to play this music file"
Instead it'll 'social engineer' and say things like "Error! This music file comes from an untrusted source and could contain a virus that could damage your computer."
Way way back, what was it? 1983 or so? I was working in a computer and calculator shop in London and these things arrived, with much hype.
We had a long waiting list of customers who wanted them.
Problem was, they arrived with pretty well *no* software to sell with them... it wasn't for another couple of months that software titles started arriving.
Then the problem was that these software titles were recycled VIC20 programs ported to the C64. They were buggy as hell and total crap. Except 'jumpman' which was very cool...
As long as its not another round of computer aided chess vs man... as I recall the last few times a 'computer' beat this guy, they had a team of programmers modifying the engine as the game was in progress.
Its not cheating; its computer *aided* chess. Ahem.
The palladium lattice soaks up hydrogen like a sponge. A block of palladium left soaking in liquid hydrogen will actually swell up.
If one were to use deuterium (instead of hydrogen) and force the absorbtion (by using electrolysis eg) the deuterons would likely (?) accumulate in the cells of the lattice; one deuteron per cell, just as with hydrogen.
But... What if there were some fluke impurities in the palladium which made the lattice distorted in such a way as to push two deuterons into one cell.
Maybe they would start a (very very small and localised) fusion reaction?
While the nature of the impurities remains a mystery, such conditions would possibly be reproducable, but not with any reliability.
Very similar to what we actually saw; some (very few) labs reported similar results. Most did not.
We'd need a whole field of research into the effects of impurities on the deformation of palladium lattices...
In my experience, the default, official utilities such as tar that come with brand-name unices such as SCO, solaris, Irix etc, are totally feeble compared with their gnu counterparts.
Has anyone a counterexample where the 'official' version of something is actually superior to the Gnu version?
Ok so cooling down the CPU will make it more comfy on the lap, but with gigahertz plus CPUs shouldn't we be worried about the radiation???
That guy whos penis was burnt... he apparently didn't feel any heating up and the blistering ocurred some time after using the laptop.
Doesn't sound like heat burns to me; more like the sort of thing radar techos used to get in the days before people figured out that you shouldn't stand too close to an active radar system...
who supplied the computer and the software vendor et al.
Sorry, my bad, I didn't realise that there was already an official term for it! ;)

What we need now are edible RFID tags which fast food franchises can put in their happy meals and which will lodge in the gut of their consumers.
:)
This way, as soon as one of them waddles into their store, ones favorite happy meal will be ready for you by the time you get to the counter!!!
Convenience!!!
That will be double plus good!
Well if you believe everything that your government tells you, who am I to argue?
Have fun over there!

You mean like, for example, the names of people held in offshore prisoncamps?

The Internet contains all true facts, such as this one, for example!
Another possibility;

Isn't (or wasn't) Wang an major US computer manufacturer from way back?
Oooh ooh I feel a conspiracy theory coming on!!
No it never crashes; Novell invented the term 'abend' to replace 'crash', right? ;-)
We are decommissioning Unixware boxes and replacing them with Linux as fast as we can!!!
I love the way the article describes SCO as;
"a leading provider of business software solutions"
Lets just redefine 'leading' shall we?
Where i work we are very seriously working towards ridding our machine room of SCO forever.
To this end, I'm taking suggestions as to innovative and torturous ways to take a SCO Unixware box down.
Note; we will be putting Linux on the boxes after SCO is removed, so please, no suggestions that involve damage to the hardware.
In my experience, the default, official utilities such as tar that come with brand-name unices such as SCO, solaris, Irix etc, are totally feeble compared with their gnu counterparts.
Has anyone a counterexample where the 'official' version of something is actually superior to the Gnu version?
Thanks!

Had to be said, screw the bad karma for posting off topic!
Do they still do the spread boot polish on bread, warm it up, scrape the black crud off and eat the bread routine?
In Soviet Russia dude, in Soviet Russia.
