Hmmm... problem is *not* with the data itself.. I've examined my extensive DivX "backup" collection, they all seem to be fine. What gives?

My theory is that Divx compression somehow protects the data from potential ruination. I guess this means that (Kazaa/gnutella client/IRC/whatever) is basically taking on the role of "backup medium" now, instead of "piratical menace."

Do you Think it's about time for your programs to stop crashing your X-Windows server?
Well have we got a treat for you, dear sir! With Windows XP's patented "Xfree-free" advantages, you get a responsive GUI (thanks to "multi-threading" technology - another excellent innovation still misunderstood by Xfree developers) and RDP (much faster across the wire) plus, best of all, there's NO X server to crash! No kicker app to crash, NO Konqueror to mysteriously vanish while taking down Xfree - in fact, no ANYthing that you've come to know and loathe about the Linux platform. Welcome to Win32, baby!

See, the whole problem I have with Xfree isn't anything to do with fonts or translucency - it's all about performance. Performance is what keeps me (and quite a few others I know) on Win2K. Apps? I'll make do with Mozilla and KOffice, but only if my GUI is responsive enough to justify it.
"Looks" don't matter. Skins don't make a difference. Speed is what matters, and Xfree is the bottleneck. Toast Xfree, and an OSX-like GUI becomes possible. Imagine all those neat little effects and what-not running on top of Xfree's bloat!

Recording digitally is so easy any sucker can do it... remember Afro Man? Cuz I Was High? That was done in a basement with cheap synth crap equipment, and I'll bet it cost less than $1000 to do the entire thing.

Of course, costs of producing an album rise drastically when you gots your hoes and coke to supply.. note that it costs SNoop Dogg 90 g's in hoes alone to make a video.
Figure about a half ounce per roadie of premium bud, probly about a grand a day in coke per performer, strippers, a Bentley, and maybe payments to various law enforcers - shit adds up when yore a real rap superstar.
Other side of the coin is Remy Shand, who built a platinum record in his parents' basement in less than four years, and spent almost every cent on just buying the equipment.. no recording studio time for that lad. It's all so relative - I mean, somebody can spend billions developing an operating system that's only marginally better than the next best OS which was built by freak hobbyists working out their parents' basements.

for those who care, I'm recording an album right now in my parents' basement. I'll be trolling /. with my website as soon as we're done.

-Wield a variety of familiar weapons, such as the Gauss Rifle and Perdition Flamethrower
