I once read an article about a guy who "sold" penis enlargement pills through spamming. I put "sold" in double quotes because he said he never shipped a product, and didn't even have any to ship if he wanted to. His reason? "Who's going to call their credit card company and tell them they didn't get their penis enlargement pills that they ordered?"
While not at the same level, I'd hazard a guess that it's the same here.
A "Christian" is defined as someone who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. It's pretty obvious to most people that Hitler was pretty much the exact opposite in every way. All Christians fall short in some way or another, but Hitler didn't even try. I've seen no evidence, anyway, that he actually was a Catholic except by people trying to show how bad Christianity is. But, that's beside the point.
And so do prohibitions on human slavery. The Free Market just isn't nearly so great as people make it out to be.
We've been over this, but for you and the rest of the slow-learners...
Free market principles have are antithetical to slavery, where you get (virtually) free labor out of a human. Free markets do quite well at pricing labor. Forced labor is outside of that realm.
You'd think folks like you could come up with an actual example, but I suppose you're just saying this for the echo chamber (which put you up to +5).
I immediately filed a report. I am glad something actually happens after that. Restores a smidgen of faith in government.
So, they make 370,000,000 illegal calls and get God know how many complaints on donotcall.gov (including 10+ from me alone) before the government shuts them down, and you have a smidgen left? I have absolutely no faith. The incompetence exhibited by the FTC in this instance is simply stunning.
I understand that an investigation has to be done, but it could be done in a few weeks. Shutting them down should be quick and easy. There is no reason to have the FTC if this is the best they can do.
Making or distributing child porn is illegal in Japan, but possession is not
Exactly as it should be. That focuses police resources on cutting roots (creators/distributors) instead of branches (consumers). Blocking it online is fine, too, but they need to try to trace it.
Every time Keith Olbermann shows a video of Rush Limbaugh doing his radio show saying something stupid and I catch a glimpse of what looks like the OS X desktop with a dock full of icons on the bottom on his monitor, I die inside a little.
I understand - Keith Olbermann has that effect on me, too.
It makes a lot more sense to tax a negative externality than it does to tax something we want more of like income.
Sure. But do you think our tax-addicted politicians will drop the income tax and replace it with this? If so, pass the weed.
I'm actually all for a "carbon tax" with one caveat - the money is payed directly to charities that operate in the 3rd world. If the goal has *anything* to do with helping the environment, then the effect is the same and the supporters would also support this idea.
Just curious - for how long are you people going to blame Bush for everything? I ask this in seriousness. When Obama is no longer President, will you blame him for everything that happens with the new President, or will you continue to blame Bush until another Republican gets into office?
Ummm, see Duke Lacrosse fiasco, and several other times when rape isn't violent and consent believed to have been given.
Dude, go read about the Duke Lacrosse false-rape scandal. The lacrosse team members didn't have any form of sex with Crystal Mangum. The woman was a walking sperm bank according to the DNA test, but none of it came from any member of the team. She made it up.
Except they can't pass that cost on to the consumer, because they're still competing in a highly fungible market. Exxon isn't having this problem, Shell isn't having this problem - it's just BP. Which means that if BP raises its prices, people will buy gas from companies that don't have to deal with a multi-billion dollar clean-up.
Right. And as they buy more gas from the other companies, it will raise the demand from them without raising supply. Which, as we learned in econ 101, will cause the price to go up. And it'll reach equilibrium again.
You're missing nothing except one minor point: no POS system - or anything else in the chain - should be running Windows. This should be a non-issue. My advice to the Australian grocery chain is to fire whomever in the IT department thought this was a reasonable idea.
At around 6:53 on the LiveLeak version of the video, you can also clearly see an AK-47 on the ground by them. It looks like yet another case where Reuter's "journalists" have embedded with insurgent forces - who don't wear uniforms making the journalists indistinguishable - and then cry foul when they're shot along with their buddies. More of their buddies then show up in a van along with their kids, and get shot, too.
I hate to say it, but I was expecting to see some film where the military shot a bunch of obviously innocent people and then covered it up. I'm 100% confident that such has happened before and will again. The problem is, I'm not seeing it in the video.
What I am seeing is fodder for Rush Limbaugh to trot out anytime there's an accusation of such to show that "last time they said that, turns out the military was just shooting at some insurgents". It hurts the credibility of those who are anti-military.
I'm not anti-military (not terribly "pro" either), but unless there's more to it, this looks pretty tame to me. The army should have not only released it, but should have done so with explanations.
According to the paper presented at the 2010 ICRA (PDF), the robot successfully completed 50 out of 50 attempts to fold a single towel, and also folded 5 out of 5 towels when they were presented in a group. Is watching a robot do laundry really that exciting?
No, it's boring as hell. That's what I love about it. 99% of the crap that I want a robot to do for me is boring - that's the point of having a mindless automaton do it while I'm at the lake.

It's been 26,999,998 years since the last mass extinction.
Overrated and off-topic? Any of you moderators care to debate the AC above?

Be careful, you just affected the coal markets...
...we end up with Thermo Electron Niton XRF testing guns being illegal to possess in the US.
he can work his way up through the newer versions...

Microsoft has $50,000,000,000 in the bank that says you're wrong. Honestly, at this point I don't know what else their customer could expect.

I think we both know the truth here.....

I ask this in seriousness, I really want to know.
Dude, UPS doesn't allow shipping of nuclear bombs. I think radioactive material is also on the forbidden list at the USPS. So, no problem.

Unless, of course, the accusation is true.
Government jobs *don't* have poor pay in comparison to industry.

Are they going to sue me for not letting them come to my house?
If you had "enough work to do", you wouldn't have written this letter. Hopefully after the next election that won't be a problem for you...
