  11. Human Rights Charter not Universal on Taking My Freedom With Me to China? · · Score: 1

All of these are basic rights for all human beings.

That has been wishful thinking of the western countries since 1945. While many countries have made impressive advancements in the development of west-compatible institutions and economies, this doesn't necessarily mean they adopted our cultural and moral values too.

Formal acceptance of the UN's human rights charter is necessary to participate in the "civilized world", but there's no need to actually implement and enforce them.

Heck, even the U.S. violate human rights on a daily basis.

So they must have been using it all the time...

Seriously, this just shows how redundant the "music" industry is. In a market scenario, it would be the customer who chooses what's hot or not among many different channels. Instead, we have a monopolistic dinosaur industry which aims to control the channels and thus the customer's decision. And at the same time they are talking about choice!. Goebbels could have learned from them. Like the Nazis did, they are pouring billions into propaganda.

And $5,000 for the hit-or-not software.

Ah yes, and $1,000 for the artist.

But I'm confident they will stumble upon their own stupidity. Every arrogant industry has gone this way... bye bye!

  16. Popper on Creationist Textbook Stickers Declared Unconstitutional · · Score: 1

Evolution is a theory, right, but there's a lot of evidence in favor of it and none against it so far. As soon as there's one one proof evolution theory is wrong, it'll we dropped immediately. Scientific theories need to be falsifiable (thanks to Popper).

In contrast, creation is a belief. There are no proofs whatsoever. For a belief it doesn't matter whether it's provable or not. The point is that you're believing it. And that's good, as long as you keep it for you.

However, serious problems arise when those who believe try to impose their beliefs upon others who don't. That's religious intolerance and has caused the death of millions in the past. That's why we have secular states. Those people are trying to turn back time and act at the same level as those islamic fundamentalists who persuade young people of committing suicide attacks. Both lack the most fundamental respect for others.

To blabber about creationism at work or school is like picking one's nose in public. I had a boss who would start "casual" discussions about "scientific" topics at any occasion. Now, that was a serious asshole! Once he gave me a book "about information" (I'm a software engineer and therefore interested "in information"). The book looked somehow suspicious though, and a quick googling of the author revealed his creationist background.

So, if you come across a creationist without manners, inform him of his misbehaviour, or run.

Everything else breaches separation of powers and / or is plain illegal. Like the RIAA paying retired police offers to play Gestapo. Or the army saying "The Army is angry, and we're coming for you".

Rather than threatening its own people, I'd prefer the army focusing on defense, and on respecting the law themselves. As a suggestion, they could start in Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo.
