  3. That's nice for benign instances. But even a relatively small organization like a state can do horrific damage. The population of Italy before WWII was about the same as California is now, 40 million. Should California follow Italy's example, just because it would be a state initiative and that makes it OK?

    The problem for California is that wise people are leaving the state, and most of those entering are from Latin America, entering illegally, a significant portion of whom are either criminals or intend to live off the welfare system with false I.D.s.

    "good service at a fair cost"? Like public schools, where a person could earn far more than than national average income by teaching 3 children if he were paid as much as public schools charge to 'educate' them?

    I've found that parked cars are a greater danger to bicycles than cars speeding past me. The driver parks and opens his door without looking behind him. Splat.

    Parking lots are subject to the free rider problem, laws tend to ameliorate the problem. Laws for adequate parking space also help compensate for changed parking requirements when a building's use changes. For instance, law may require a warehouse builder to provide more parking than a warehouse needs, to cover the possibility that the warehouse is turned into a shopping mall.

    Parking is also a safety issue. Roadside parking can be hazardous. Some business owners are unscrupulous, and to lower costs will build without a parking lot, forcing customers to park on the road.

    It's common for raised train platforms (or surface platforms by subsurface tracks) to be 10 or more train cars long. That sounds like simultaneous loading/unloading of about 80 automobiles would be easy.

    For terrestrial radio, sky noise is greater than the noise of electronics up to about 200 MHz. There's no possibility for improvement in signal to noise ratio below that frequency.

    Gay marriages ... don't mean additional expenses for the society.

    Married couples with one person providing most of the income have a slight federal income tax advantage. If the federal budget is fixed and the money has to come from somewhere, a married gay couple paying less under this scheme means a slightly increased burden on everyone else.

    People working hard and with a modicum of success do not go seeking enemies; it takes a lot of the Big Lie technique before their natural inhibitions against vile stupidity are worn down.

    YMMV. I've been able to do things with GIMP that I can't do with photoshop. Things like modify the source code of any plugin to add new capabilities, such as a 31x31 Convolution Matrix.

    Scanning movie film in 8k is pointless unless the original is at least 70 mm. A movie image on 35 mm film is about 25 mm wide, and old film, old lenses, were not terrific.

    Resolution is NOT by definition pixels; the context must be understood to infer what is meant by "resolution". Traditionally, resolution is measured in lines per millimeter, or more properly "line pairs" (cycles) per millimeter. If you speak to an optical engineer about resolution, he will be thinking in these terms or similar, a linear measure. Pixel count is related to the square of what is normally thought of as resolution.

    Your citation doesn't understand the way limiting resolution is measured and its significance, and makes other mistakes that result in overestimating the pixel count by at least 6X.
