1. Will never happen (why the hell people are continuing to bang on this one is beyond me). 2. Very difficult to see how it could be implemented, could be valuable. 3. Definitely. 4. With that latest TIFF exploit? You bet!
"... your rights/viewing-licence agreement changing after purchase at the whims of the content producer..."
... something Apple is already doing with the iTMS; stripping away rights slowly but surely.
If we're ever going to get a broad public front against these shady business, we need tangible proof, something Apple has been kind as to offer. We must prove that this technology is really hurting consumers and privacy in the long run, otherwise Joe Schmuck will simply just deal with it. And we shouldn't allow him to throw away our collective freedom because of laziness.
If I'm without my work-computer in 60 days, it sure has cost me a heck of a lot more than a grand in productivity loss. Not too friendly-minded with systems that call home either. This's certainly a stab... somewhere...
No, the worst thing in the world would be be for a Mac to have an "Intel DRM Inside" sticker on it. That would probably be the only reason in the world I could think of for me to leave my beloved platform.
I've cherished Apple products (and most recently my Alu Powerbook 15") for 10+ years now, but that move would be such a major insult to me (and prolly many others as well) that I couldn't bear it.
It seems they have turned off Quartz 2D Extreme by default (check for yourself with Quartz Debug in Developer Tools), probably because of graphical glitches and some rumored kernel panics. It should be turned on in a future update.
"One of the most impressive aspects about Longhorn is the speed with which it catalogs, organizes and searches your PC. In addition to great new views (you can see a physical representation of every file on your PC that can be magnified as you move the scroll wheel of your mouse), the speed at which Longhorn renders the views was spectacular. Best of all was Jim's reaction when I expressed my delight at how quickly views were rendered. Jim reacted strongly and said that the speed that we were seeing was unacceptable and that over the course of the next year the system will get even faster."
Ok, that's just sad. Or hilarious. Take your pick(s).
everyone in the EU (and around the world, I'm sure) who helped in driving this decision through. I was a bit worried at the end, but this shows that democracy can still work.
I sent a handful of faxes in myself to some of the more critical MEP's, and some emails to the Swedish government explaining my position. While that was the most I could do with my resources and time, it would certainly be interesting to see how far other people went to further this cause:)
And there are no tsunami's.... or do more people feel it's a bit too early for those kinds of jokes?
In Sweden there are still over 2000 people missing/presumed dead, which - possibly - makes it the greatest disaster ever for us.
I'm still a bit worried that I've not heard much about the seemingly built-in DRM management of this new platform (that seem to be able to spread to all facets of technology, including toasters). According to a clause in the pressrelease by IBM and Sony from Nov. 29, the Cell processor will have:
- On-chip hardware in support of security system for intellectual property protection.
Is this the end of tampering-capable hardware (e.g. machines where you can modify the kernel, bypass DRM-systems etc) that some people have long foreseen? Anyone more in-the-meat of the technical details care to elaborate on this?
You saying that a heavy combustion engine that's also dead, is better than a lighter electric engine? I've never seen any extra fueldunks in any of my flights, and even if I did, I sure wouldn't want to climb out on the wing to refuel it at 3000'.
With an electrical/hydrogen plane if the electricity run out, you just use your walkman batteries and fly home...
FYI, the Tilley's said they would actually bring an airplane with them for their next test-run in about 30 days.
I don't think anything about the Tilley device yet, until it is definately proved to be either a hoax or a blessing. I must say though, that if Tilley is a fraud and not just self-disillusioned, he's also incredibly stupid, because we all know what will happen to frauds in our time.
Anyone has any good suggestion what we should do with him?
Well, they say you learn new things everyday:) Very interesting indeed.
Must say that I feel very welcome here. It was my first post on slashdot today, and I'm glad to see that this is a forum where serious people can discuss serious matters without being flamed.
Yeah, yeah, so give me a "Score:0" and "OffTopic" then, nevermind:)
There's no way to know exactly that Jesus was born on December 24, but that's not stopping them.
I say we give the Smiley his(?) best 20th birthday come next Thursday. I for one will honor him by using the first smiley:-) instead of the now commonly used:) for the whole day.

People are moving fast when it comes to Apple products :)
Here is a video review for the new Apple MightyMouse (warning: site already "dug" (digg.com)).

This from the X11-page:
"Experts may choose to replace the native Aqua window manager with their own familiar, standard X Window Manager."
Is this something new with Tiger or has it been possible (officially so) on Panther before?

Is that a fact, or something you say because you dislike christianity? I'm just asking.

What else could we do?
