i wouldnt ever think an $80 dvd set of a tv show is worth buying, because id never watch it enough. in fact, i may not watch it but once a year...or every 2 years or some such.

if i want tv series on dvd, i get it on netflix. i watched the entire sopranos season one in a couple of weeks, and still had a few more movies that month, all for $20. My aunt bought 3 seasons of west wing on dvd...i don't want to know what it cost her, but i know it'll cost me about 11 bucks to see each season considering my turnaround with netflix, and i probably wouldn't ever watch it again.

I found last night the most interesting thing I have ever read in the Bible. I'm not sure if that should be a testament to the uselessness and ridiculousness of the Bible, of of myself.

I was raised Christian, though I no longer hold faith in any religion. But I was, of course, well aware of the animosity towards homosexuality; despite the rare mention of it in the Bible, and the regular mention of a dozen other things that Christians should be far more concerned with.

All that being said, I have recently realized that God Hates Shrimp

He hates them so much, that he calls them an "abomination" just as when referring to homosexuals.

If you didn't think the Bible was ridiculous before, please think again. Shellfish are an abomination. This also provides me another answer when my father asks why I no longer go to church: I like shrimp, dad, and God hates them.

You can go to martial arts equipment sites and do the same to get various weaponry, as long as it isn't illegal in your state.

  18. Re:This is the tip of the iceberg on Creationist Textbook Stickers Declared Unconstitutional · · Score: 1
Telling school children that scientific theory is just theory is a game of dishonest semantics. The sense of the word theory in a scientific context is quite different from its common usage. In everyday usage, theory means an opinion based upon sketchy evidence.

I was sent to a christian school as a child, from kindergarten up to the 11th grade; and that is exactly the kind of "Education" i recieved in regards to evolution and creationism.

I was taught that evolution was a theory in that people just believed in it even with a lack of evidence, or a "missing link". They taught us that the geologic table was a lie, and scientists use rocks to date fossils, and fossils to date rocks. They called that "circular reasoning" and said it couldn't possibly work.

For a while, as young as I was and being brought up in it, I believed them. Until one day I realized they use the same circular reasoning with their faith in god: The bible tells us theres one god, and he created everything, and we know it's true because god said so...in the bible.

The thing is, had I not had access to the internet that allowed me to examine other people's ideas and beliefs, I would have still believed in the bible, and that evolution was a lie, despite the fact that there's no actual proof of the existence of god, and there's enourmous amounts of evidence to support evolution.

I dont think some people understand that "belief is contagious", especially when one belief is all you are allowed to be exposed to. It makes it very difficult to think or learn about new things when you can't even get to a place to hear about them. After all, muslims believe in Allah and only (and certainly) allah, and other religions believe in their deities and creation stories, and only that it happened that way....because for hundreds of years that's all people have been taught.

It's a shame, really. Critical thinking could bring so much to some places or peoples, and yet sometimes they refuse to have much, or anything, to do with it.

My father recently finished building his new home, and being that he's a handy guy and.....well cheap; I tried talking him into setting up his own home theatre which would allow him a huge screen with a great picture for cheap. He didn't want to; thinking such a huge screen would be annoying.

So, he puts in a fireplace with a space over it for a Television, the space is 48" wide, and when he moved in he put in a new 34" flat screen television; enourmous, heavy....and small considering his living room is some 25 ft wide.

So, a friend of his at sears has a customer who wants to return a 36" sony WEGA tv, he said my dad could have it for $1000 (at the time sears was selling it for about $1600) but he didn't want to lose 2 inches of height for the 2" gain in width and passed it over.

Then he goes out last week, buys a Samsung 46" projector screen TV....refinishes his space so he can fit in the TV AND his dvd player; and wound up spending as much time changing and reworking things for his tv, as he would have spent on a separate projector and screen.

Oh, and the picture on this samsung is grainy as hell; is that normal for this kind of tv? The color is great, but the picture is lousy.

What makes it worse is that when he wired his 5.1 sound, he didn't follow the diagram i drew up for him.....he has the center channel speaker in the REAR....so when watching movies theres a noticeably awful "lag" from when the characters speak on the TV to when you hear the sound (how much extra wiring he has in the ceiling to cause that is beyond me; but I suppose that's the problem) so not only does the sound lag, but it's awkward as hell when someone 8 feet in front of you is speaking over your head.
