bush never claimed hussein's iraq was an imminent threat. this has got to be the lie of the year, that bush said iraq was an imminent threat. he said we can't wait until they are, because since when do terrorists give advanced warning. if you were opposed to the war, fine. don't repeat some bullshit lie and think that you're cool, even though you post it to/. did he screww up the wmd thing? for sure. are we a helluva lot safer? for sure. has iran, libya, no. korea gotten the message. for sure.
imagine if on agust 15, 2001, the fbi had rounded up 20 suspected terrorists, all saudi men, and accused them of plotting an attack on a scale never before seen? the press would have called it naziism. but sadly we now know. so, we'll never konw if we'd have been attacked by terrorists, trained in iraq, funded by iraq, and armed with wmd's by iraq. (and yes, they did two of the three) and we'll never know if 3,000 or 30,000 or 3,000,000 would have been killed. and then the bush haters would have said he knew about it and should have done something. just say yor prayers that we have a president with balls.
big deal. another disruptive technology. just like linux/OSS is changing the IT world, so to is this. big deal. that is the nature of market economies. one sector grows and matures and displaces another sector, only to have the exact smae thing happen to them. you want to live in a controlled economy. i certainly don't.
yeah, it is hard to listen to the teachers at lunch. today, i was listening to a group saying that the government should fund all drug research through universities and not let pharmaceuticals exist. ay carumba!!
please remember that stereotypes are the hardest things to break. and since this particular stereotype fits a nice political agenda, then it doesn't matter the truth. i for one actually would rather have a rich politician only in that (btw, i'm from calefornyah) can't be "bought". i kinda like rich pols. clinton was never rich. he was easily taken for a few million. at least the rich will more often than not vote their conscience. and, i don't want a president who identifies with "common folk". hell, i'm a school teacher. i want a person larger than life, a lincoln, a roosevelt, a reagan. i wnat a someone who is a leader, who is visionary. i don't want the president to deal with the mundane affairs. he has much bigger things. like, oh, i don't know, global terror and the future of liberal and free democratic societies. but your original point was too obvious. the best part about people who know whatthey is right, is that they never let truth stand in their way.
sorta off topic, but as i've been doing some things with python lately, and i think that in a few years, python will replace java and even c++ as a ubiquitous language. c++ is prone to too many errors (memory leaks, platform dependencies, etc.) and java is stuck with that ugly bastard called swing. processor peformance is such that the real difference between compiled and interpreted languages (and python compiles to byte code when you create python classes) is becoming much smaller. even.NET is like that. and python is platform neutral, and can access every gui, (though i don't know about windows MFC). and since python, and perl, are often just a wrapper for C calls anyways. just my thoughts.
usually i never resond to AC's, but i never discounted photoshop. i just said it's not necessary for 95% of graphics work. and dreamweaver MX (not mx 2004) does not do cgi or mysql/php sites all that well. it's editor sucks, and it generates tons of html. and by the way, i have used dreamweaver since 3.0. it is nice, but it is still primarily for sites that have tons of static pages. and yes, i do kow wtf i'm talking about. bitch.
i have a G3/700mhz ibook and a G4/800mhz ibook. thge G3 runs yellowdog, the G4 runs panther. guess which one is faster? the G3/yellowdog combo. seriously. both have 256mb ram, and i don't notice the lags nearly as bad. the only thing that lacks is a current JDK. now don't get me wrong, i love os x, and love the ibooks. but, there is nothing that can't be done on linuxppc that can't be done on os x except high end movie/sound and some niche applications. photoshop is always cited as the sine que non. you know what, not for 95% of the people who do graphics. openoffice runs great on the G3. dreamweaver ain't all it's cracked up to be. it is dog slow, crashes like it was written in redmond, and has a crappy editor. (i know, i have DW MX) but do you really think apple cares if you buy a mac and install linux? not at all. they are a hardwrae company. in fact, they even allow terrasoft to install linux on new macs and offer dual boot options. could you imagine microsoft allowing an OEMto offer dual boot winboxen?
bottom line, linux and powerppc are a great match.
"i think if you read the eula, you can use my software on only one comptuer at a time. you can not install it on one computer and boot it into memory on another. i would like to introduce you to our team of lawyers. don't let their horns or fangs fool you. they are really nice. (ha ha ha ha). i might also remind you that there are specific ways in which you may use my software, all of which you agreed before you even opened the CD (thinks to himself: damn, i'm clever). if it isn't specified, and you don't have a license to do this, then you may not."
haven't we been down this road, what, a million times before. doesn't IBM,sun, novell, ah hell, everyone EXCEPT microsoft, make this guy look like a big dumbshit. okay, next. move on. (hell, imagine a beowolf cluster of guys like this). oh yeah, they're all at SCO.
I am a high school history teacher (and geek on the side!!). I don't give two cents worth about teacherreviews.com. And yes, I'm on there (the ratmyteacher.com site I think), and yes, I've checked. Why would I have been rated low? Hmmm, perhaps because I am not the easiest history teacher on campus. For instance, our semester project is an historical biography of a 20th century figure. Kids ar reading everyone from Roosevelt (both), Hitler, Stalin, Che, Reagan, Dr. King, etc. Some of the books I had to say no to simply because the person, while interesting, was not an historical figure. Or perhaps because I assign more reading than just the book. Last semester we read from Locke's Second Treatise, Rousseau's Social Contract, and Hobbes' Leviathan. The assignment was to write about what each would have said about the US constitution. That is why I am not the "favorite" teacher. I can deal with that. I would rather be tougher and challenge them. How 'bout a teacherreview.com when they're 25, eh?
do a quick google of california's problems. you'll see that we have strict environmental laws, expensive worker's comp, outrageous business regulations, and an out of control, lawsuit happy culture. we've had tax-and-spend liberals running the state and running it into the ground. and for all you IT people out of work, is it any wonder silicon valley took a dump, being in califonia. i have lived in calif. all my life. we have lost over a million jobs since 1998, while almost the same number of illegals, etc. have entered the public dole. it is an unbearable business climate. those who can get out are. i don't blame them. and cut them some slack. they are shell-shocked.
Kerry is so vague, canned, and partyline. He's taken special interest money. I wish more people would vote for Edwards.
as a conservative who is upset with his party (notice my sig), i find it rather funny that kerry's biggest appeal is his "electability". (war hero status aside, given clinton's war record, i'd say it's a non-issue, really) you are right. will it be too late for the democratic party to stop him. he will not appeal to other than the party faithful and a few particularly leftist states, like my california. sadly, the democrats threw out lieberman without so much as a "thank you". while i don't agree with him on many things, he would make a good president. the rush to dump dean didn't result in the best choice. edwards is still too young. and his two americas speech is somewhat disingenuous (as well as incorrect). but, he would pose a much bigger threat to bush than kerry does. good observation.
every intel agency this side of mars said iraq had wmd's. france, russia, britain, israel, us, everyone. as it turns out, with recently released docs, it seems the only ones who WEREN'T in iraq for oil were bush/cheney. the french, russians, et al., were all bought and paid for with iraqi oil. but, hey, their opposition was on principal, right? which means only one thing, not he never had them, but where did they go? my guess, syria. he kept the prgorams, dumped the evidence. as for python, you are right. i recently started with python, after yeares with perl. python is the shiznit. it is an awesome language. hopefully it can get a JIT compiler to rival java's, then jacva will be toast.

XP 2: THe Wrath of Khan.
let's hope yor logic doesn't prevail here on /. i've wasted many a good hour here, and i wouldn't want common sense to screw with that, ya hear!!

we got huge balls!!
because waiting for a final release to be stable, secure, and thoroughly tested has worked for microsoft, and we wouldn't want to do things their way.
i thought it was just:
/usr/src/sco /usr/src/linux
cp -R

(This book has been out for a few years; what books would make more sense today for a C++ learner's library?)
Teach Yourself Java in 21 days

and this is another reason i use linux.
isn't that offensive? perhaps they prefer to be called diamonds of color?
MSML.
features:
undocumented, breaks backwrads compat., high licensing costs, platform dependence.
benefits:
those damn linux commies can't use it!!!

What is Windows anyway? Operating system? Desktop environment?
a desert topping. and a floor polish.

actually, i am typing this on the school's computer in my classroom, so, technically, yes, taxpayers are paying me to argue!!
thanks.
