I'm not a Facebook user, so I am having trouble understanding something.

Why would 'spammers' (whatever that means in this context) have someone's Facebook login details?

Think of Facebook as just another website. People tend to use the same username/password combination on multiple sites you only need to hack one to have a good shot at the rest.

There is no universal ISO IEEE Regulatory standard for software version numbers, it's meaningless to compare them. Personally I mostly ignore them and look at the release or file date.

My conversation with an average user:

Them: "What browser are you using?"
    Me: "Firefox."
Them: "It looks neat. Is it any good?"
Me: "Yeah, I like it. You can try it if you want."
Them: "This is pretty good. What version are you running?"
    Me: "Version 3.6."
Them: "Oh, if they're only on 3.6 I'll just stick with IE8."
    Me: *facepalm*

I did give them the "version numbers don't mean much" spiel after that but their eyes had already glazed over when I said a number less than 8. Sometimes I think a standardized numbering system would be a good thing.

If someone said "I put my hot coffee between my thighs and I got burned - Its your fault." came to me I'd say sue too.. because I'd think there is no way this can be my fault.

Regarding your pizza example: no, they'd just be an idiot.

Regarding McDonald's: "McDonald's required franchises to serve coffee at 180–190 F (82–88 C). At that temperature, the coffee would cause a third-degree burn in two to seven seconds. Prior to her lawsuit, there had been approximately 700 other burn cases involving McDonald's between 1982 and 1992." (Liebeck v. McDonald's Restaurants)

I agree it wasn't a good idea to put the coffee in her lap but she spent eight days in a hospital, required skin grafts and two years of medical treatment just because she spilled it on herself. I don't know if you've ever ended up with a hot beverage in your lap but it usually just hurts for an hour and gets a little red; it doesn't involve a trip to the hospital. Her original plan was to settle with McDonald's to cover her medical costs and they offered her $800. After that, they filed a suit for gross negligence for providing "unreasonably dangerous" and "defectively manufactured" coffee.

For some people, being accepted by other people is the most important pursuit, their reason for existence. If those people are sufficiently ostracized they lose their sense of purpose and feel as though they're not in control of their lives. A person who will accept them no matter what is simply too hard to pass up. This is also why some people join gangs or become suicide bombers, they believe it restores meaning to their existence.

It's sad in two ways: that a person is so desperate for affection that they would try to get it from the equivalent of a talking cardboard cutout and that some people believe they're alone to the point that they try to remove themselves from the world.

I'm sure you're right but I have to ask, "illegal backups"? Is that some fancy way of saying "pirated" or just the de facto standard for backing up games thanks to the DMCA? If you never had an original it's not a backup, it's just a copy.

If all buying a shiny disc does is give me a license to use the data then I'll use it however I damn well please, and here in Canada it's perfectly legal for me to use burnt discs in my console while the originals are stored out of reach of my kids and careless friends.
