The Itanium2 architecture isn't compatible with anything of AMD's. I believe x86-64 is also refered to AMD64, which is the Operton. Just remember x86-64 as a 64-bit processor with regular 32-bit app support.
If you don't remember the release of the Itanium processor, help you refresh your memory:
It sucked.
Well, it wasn't compatible with any other current OS and it could run some 32-bit applications but it was horribly slow. As you can tell, it didn't do very well even though companies like HP hoped it would.
I don't think MS could port Windows to all those different architectures (they can't get one right) so perhaps they'll either need more people, make it open source within a select few MS Devs or something or just make it really crappy.
Think about it, optimizing an operating system for 4+ archs is no easy task and I doubt MS could do it in a reasonable amount of time.
Maybe they'll hire the Duke Nukem: Forever developers on that one.
Come on Linus, admit it, there is SCO code in your programs, I've checked and confirmed everything.
"iostream.h" is in there, along with "string.h" and "iomanip.h." These are just a few of the headers that can easily be found many SCO programs.
Save the Open Source community now by admitting to this before Microsoft comes after us for using their patented 1's and 0's in binary. What then Linus, WHAT THEN!?
Pick a unit of measurement and stick with it, or at least provide your conversions for miles and kilometers. Earth cannot be pushed into higher orbit because this plasma has very little mass (actually alot compared to other things) and cannot make much of a difference. The force of the Sun pulling Earth towards itself and Earths inertia is far greater than a bit of plasma.
Do you even know that Earth and other planets have elliptical orbits? That means there are two points (the sun and something else) that Earth (and others) orbit around, thus its not a perfect circle. At periphelion (time when planet is closest to the Sun) Earth is only 147 million kilometers away. At aphelion (farthest away from Sun) its 152 million kilometers away. That 93 million miles/149 million km/1AU is just a mean (average) number.
Go back to middle school and take an astronomy class, it'll be quite enlightening.
First, they did an excellent job at stealing the original Fisher Price idea of "My First Operating System!" (WINXP, for kids 8 and under) and now they're making it much much better!
I can't wait to download it. Erm, I mean, buy it. Yeah, that's it...
What if terrorist got this information? Will they try to attack biggest parts of this infactructure?
I think not, since they realize they'd be the target of lots of nuclear missiles because they blew up a large of the infastructure and millions are pissed because they can't get any porn.
Although I know it was asked, but why aren't there AMD processors? What about (DEC, Compaq, HP, or whatever the hell it is now) Alphas? Sparcs? Also, why rate in MFLOPS/MHz? CpF is a lot more easier to understand. CpF is Cycles per Floating Point Opteration. As far as I know, the Itaniums are the most efficient, while running in native mode. Whatever the G5 has to offer, doesn't even compare.
Now, getting back to AMD processors, I think that they should have been included in there. Although, since the Athlons ARE more efficient in pretty much everythan that the Pentiums, they could have easly gotten high scores. Perhaps Langley doesn't want to show how equal, or worse even, the G5 is compared to a sub-100 dollar USD processor. No processor in existance compares in performance for price to Athlons.
Well, even though there is another, perhaps even credible to some, source for benchmarks, but I still say I don't trust them one bit. Call me old fashioned, or a stubborn 16 year old, but I don't trust any benchmark done by anyone. I like to test things before I buy them. Why doesn't anyone else? Why trust people that are funded by the companies that make the product they benchmark? Well, anyway...

Hacking the XBox

The Xbox is actually a much better machine than those computers found in Wal-Mart. Hell, even the graphics card itself is faster than most of the CPUs inside the Wal-Mart computers.
The appeal behind all of this is that because MS released a "locked down" computer, please wanted to circumvent around those security devices and prove something to other. Also, its fun, you can show off, and its a good time waster.
I believe all of these should fall into the "fair use" catagory. If Microsoft doesn't interfere with any of this alleged "illegal hacking" projects, they could sell those Xboxes like hot cakes. More people would buy them since they'll have more than one use. Since more people would buy an Xbox to say run Linux on them or what not, they could also use it to play games! That way games will be sold and Microsoft would make money of it since the publishers have to pay a royalts to MS.
Also, whatever you do to the Xbox should be considered fair use. When you mess with the hardware, all that MS should be able to do is deny you warrany. Car manufacturers already do this. Think of the people that modify their cars and put in turbos and superchargers. If/when their engine craps out, the dealership or whatever doesn't have to cover anything since what you did to your car has voided your warrany.
My point is MS has no right to take any legal action against any of these "illegal hacking" projects and should just leave them alone. Fair use is fair use.
"The fact of the matter is that Morpheus dies, the Matrix is destroyed, and Neo is revealed to be a program and not a real human at the end of Matrix Revolutions. So to those that disagree with me, I ask you to consider my position carefully."
Thanks a lot for ruining the whole damn thing for me, asshole. What the hell did that have to do with the topic? I'm coming to your house, just have to find my baseball bat.
Anti-Overclocking Technology Simplified, hrm, but is it simplified to the point where you can find out how to get around it?
I hope so, because I don't want to be limited with what I can do with my processor that I bought and completely own. But then again, I wont buy Intel in the first place.
Yeah, I do agree that games look better in higher frames per second. Now, with Full Scene Anti-Aliasing and Antrosopic Filtering, that really decreases FPS. So, if you have all of those settings on max and you're getting over 100FPS you should be fine, but if there are no games to really take advantage of the newer technologies, I don't see why nVidia or ATI should keep forcing new video cards to the consumer.
"oh, well the human eye only sees 30 fps, so anything else is over-kill".
Doesn't the human eye see only 24FPS? Well, that what I heard...
This isn't really Sprints fault but then again, this default password is of no use to some wanker scanning for these *DSL modems.* I have 2 ZyXEL Prestige 645 DSL modems (thanks Earthlink!) and neither of them forward telnet or tftp ports on the WAN side. Unlike Sprint, Earthlink actually bothered to change the default password to "mspgzyx". And as far as I know, these "boxes" don't allow any type of external connections, so this "news" isn't particularily useful. Maybe try going to the ZyXEL web site, they'll give you the password there too, so you don't need to use your "uber leet" wanker skills to unravel this very secure setup.
What kind of moron would vote for Steve Jobs? He can barely run a company, do any really think he would do a good job running a super power? I think not.
I agree more with the following quote...

"Werd"
Wait! Maybe he's on to something. That's why I can always hear people talking on my 900MHz phone. I wonder what the weather is like in 900MHz-land.
Captain Obvious to the rescue!
Wonder why they didn't include anything by Michio Kaku in there, I mean, when I think "Super String Theory," "Michio Kaku" pops to mind.
And yeah, long long story...
Funny words from the story:

I think your mirror got slashdotted even before the actual site was. Wow.
No, it says 80GHz RAM, and a 20GB1 Ultra ATA Hard Drive, whatever GB1 is...
I can't wait to download it. Erm, I mean, buy it. Yeah, that's it...
That's CowboyNeal you insensitive clod!
Actually, I don't know. I didn't read the whole thing. Plus, no single person will need 100,000 IP addresses, or more. Ever. One is enough for most.
OK script kiddies, fire up your right click and Save As because I've got the batch file with the hacks! 0-day sploit
