This company actually touts "datacenter server functionality" out of a machine with a 233 MHz processor?? In a time when a "datacenter server" simply must have SMP enabled processors, gig after gig of RAM and TBytes of storage? Man, I'd hate to see the datacenters these guys have been working with, if they think this unit can provide "datacenter server functionality".

I feel a flame-war coming on. This comment is functionally equivalent to saying "Real men use VI" or "Real men use EMACS." It's only intended to start a "my (insert topic here) is bigger than yours" conversation. Real men know better than to assume that their personal preference is, by definition, going to be better than the next guy's preference.

Actually, Macromedia is a big enough (and incredibly well established) company that their destruction by Microsoft actually would be a big surprise. Macromedia already produces most of their products for Macintosh, as well as some of their product (barely functional ColdFusion server) for Linux. Microsoft would have to fight pretty hard to take Macromedia down.
No, not quite that many that they HAVE to catapult them in...but can you think of a better way to transport a lawyer? I'm sure the SPLAT!!! at the bottom is the most gratifying part. So IBM doesn't HAVE to catapult them in, but they just WANT to catapult them in!;)
Stuff like this IS probably illegal in the US. However, the company programming this is in Hungary, according to the Wired article. Gonna be fairly tough to put any lawyers against them here. Legislation against this stuff won't do much good either. Foreign countries don't much care what our congress legislates and passes into law.
Why is the BBC running this article instead of some American press? Is it a bad thing that we get our information on what our military is researching from a source which isn't even based in this country?
Now if only they could make some improvements on the speed of the thing. That's one place Evolution really outshines Outlook...it's even slower! Open software is supposed to be lighter-weight than its' closed counterparts. And usually, lightweight=fast.
Evolution's got great features, power, etc., but when it's slow to load up on a plenty powerful machine, I think I'll stick with Sylpheed.
The distinguishing factor here is the fact that they don't even attempt to make an even remotely unique GUI for their distro. And while I'm at it, if I want my machine to look like Windoze, function like Windoze, and interact with Windoze machines, I'm gonna run Windoze.

They buried it right next to Apple and BSD too.

Wish we could moderate stories. This one'd be modded +5 flamebait.

Oh well, at least I got halfway through the thing before the /. effect hit.
I think I'll have to get fully baked when I install it... Umm, I'll have to be fully baked before I install KDE at all...
Now MMORPG's don't just drain and destroy your social life (such as it may be), but they'll drain and destroy your bank account too!
"If you love your PVR, the cable industry is not your friend." Well duuuh!
I removed MS from my list of trusted publishers a long, long time ago. (Translation: I switched to Linux a long, long time ago.)
