Since the probability of one person as awesome as myself reading slashdot is as close to zero as possible, it's safe to assume that you are my inferior, and therefore fair game for my petty jabs.
Since you ARE reading/., the probability is now ONE
i'm not justifying what they did. but lets face it, its only in hindsight that we can tell the good and bad of an action like that. even then we can never be sure..
in any thing we do, we can never really tell what it will lead to. what seems like a good idea may be bad.. what seems like a bad idea may be good..
all we can do is say "it seemed like a good idea at the time" and move on. and hope that our other actions don't end up having bad consequences
i use a mixture of GUI and terminals (XFCE and xterm) because that is what works for me.
what i have found is that when you start linux you're always on GUI, then as you get better and better you gravitate to the CLI. this is because for somethings the CLI is SO much faster (filesystem work for eg)
but when you're editing webpages, you really need a good GUI editor and a GUI client. sure you can do it with vi/emacs/ but its just faster and easier FOR ME with the GUI.
ultimately ANY distro is about what suits you most. and you can't force your choice on anyone else. their needs may vary greatly from yours
i have the largest collection of up to date linux iso's in my country. its a hobby as well as a job for me. so when The Linux Mirror Project tracker went down a few days ago, it took down the best way i had of downloading ISOs. so yeah, i would say tracker-less BT has a legitimate use, and it is an important one.
As many as 1,300 to 1,500 Lucas employees will, by next fall, be working in buildings made to look like they've been part of the centuries-old Presidio all along.
basically, a slum is an aggregation of cheap and above all temporary housing. at USD 2100 (about LKR 210,000 - a LOT of money where i live) per unit the housing is more expensive than most slum dwellers can afford. also i believe there is a high population turnover in slum areas. people come and people go.and the parts are scavenged to make the other slum dwellings better.
further, the land that slums are on become more desirable as the city develops. which gives the impetus for the governments to move people out of the slums and into multi story housing projects (which end up becoming vertical slums, but i digress), thereby reclaiming the land for public use. a cement based housing system would make this process more difficult
take a dekko at the Annotated Pratchett File it will explain quite a few of the jokes and references. you may miss out on the joy of catching them out later when you know more though..
i was doing some serious thinking a few days ago and decided that Star Wars (TOS) is actually an analogy for SoCal. maybe a university environment..
Luke is the naive farmboy, (even his accent is as farmboy as they come) and he leaves the farm behind. the death of his foster parents to storm troopers is an analogy for the destruction of the agrarian lifestyle by the mechanical/factory elements.
Leia is the Virginia WASP Princess. politically active in a red state family, she then discovers radical chic. she changes into a rebel leader as an act of rebellion against her parents (and especially her biological father, even though she doesn't know it). and she ends up hooking up with an unscrupulous bad boy called...
Han Solo. the latino of the movie. (even if he WAS portrayed by a white guy).. think about it.. he's got a pimped out ride that can drag ass.. he smuggles drugs.. he considers himself a playa.. he's always packing heat.. and he's got a big hairy friend called chuey who no one can understand. he joins the rebellion first for the money, then sticks around cos rebel girls put out for bad boys
with many GSM-based cellular networks now providing GPRS services too, why bother with a hand off at all when you go out of wi-fi range. GPRS services will be able to keep the skype call going. the only problem may be GPRS bandwidth. i am not sure about how much bandwidth would be available (usually about 33.6kbps, which is enough for a skype call)
the questions is will cellular networks allow skype conections on gprs?
Ian Faith: Nigel gave me a drawing that said 18 inches. Now, whether or not he knows the difference between feet and inches is not my problem. I do what I'm told. David St. Hubbins: But you're not as confused as him are you. I mean, it's not your job to be as confused as Nigel.
..but all i get are offers for 3ff3x0r, p4x|l, v14gr4, C14l1s, ph3nt3r4m1n3, v4l1um, x4n4x, 50m4, l1p170r, zyb4n, z4n7r3x, x3n1c4l, m3r1d14 and f10r1c37
.. on the guy who came in at #9 George B. Schwartzman (Ind), 12,370 votes, 0.2%.. that guy got in the top 10 just because his name was close enough to schwarzenegger (at least that's my take on things)
i DO think arnie got in on name recognition, and i agree with n0nsensical, that doesn't have to mean he's a bad governor.. but it just shows that being a person with values doesn't really mean anything unless you have a good PR crew
And im not blaming Bu$h, but the coperate infiltrators in the senate.
Actually the greatest blame lies elsewhere..
The American public are more impressed by a slick PR campaign than by where their pols stand on the issues.. they are willing to vote someone in on name recognition than on a real knowlege of who that person is and what they stand for.. when you need megabucks to pay for a campaign that you may win or lose, then you have to whore yourself out to the highest bidder, and this means the megacorps.. (in my country it's a tad different, they get in and then plunder the treasury.. but the slick campaign remains)
so its our fault. after all, no one is FORCING us to vote those idiots in. if people were willing to vote responsibly, then there would be no need for slick campaigns, only a willingness to actually work for the good of the people.. until then power to the sheeple!!!
they HAD a script? i thought it was just CGI

funny.. they don't LOOK druish
i'm starting this thread so that people like me (i use individual.net) will have a place to post alternate newsgroup servers
i also use teranews.com they charge 3.95 usd for registration and then 50mb download limit, all groups (including binaries) with a 3 day retention.
i guess i'll pay individual.net for access though. sigh.. there goes more of my budget
