    Not me. I'll record the theatrical version of PPV then I'll buy the extended when it's released 3 months later.

    The question still remains, though, how exactly is Pippin (? - could be Merry, can't remember right now) going to kill the Witch King without the magic toothpick from the barrows?

    It's not a huge stretch to assume that the blades given to them by Aragorn are the magic daggers used against the wraith.

    Have you seen what high level MMORPG characters sell for on Ebay?

    Is it foolish or stupid that people will pay real dollars for virtual items/characters? I think so, but you can't deny that there is a lot of real currency trading hands over virtual goods.

    The difference between addiction to online games and TV is something like the difference between addition to stimulants or depressants. Online games are a stimulant, they're interactive make people think at least some, TV is a depressant, it numbs the mind allowing people to shut down and go on cruise control.

    Yes but how many of those ISPs that offer free web space allow ASP or CGI scripts? None of them would be my guess.

    http://www.webhost4life.com has a plan for less than $5 / month. If the parents can afford a computer for the kid and internet access they can manage to find $5 a month for a place to host their site that does allow that, assuming they don't want to install IIS on W2K/WinXP (yes, IIS installs on W2K pro, not just server).

    Except that it's not zero cost to the manufacturer. They'll have to support it, even if they don't officially offer support their users will call them when the software on the machine crashs, won't save a document, won't import Word docs and so on.

    If they have to sell a support contract for OO where is the benifit to the consumer? Why should they buy brand X with OO where they have to pay for a seperate support contract instead of brand Y where they get MS Office when the PC costs the same? Remember PC manufacturers don't pay $400 a copy for Office so the savings with OO won't be as great as they are when building a PC from scratch for your neighbor down the street.

    I believe IE didn't support it until recently.

    IE had partial support for PNGs in 1997, and improved support in 2001 and 2002.

    Most users don't see a ".pif" extension, because Windows (at least, for a while) shipped with "hide extensions of known file types" turned on by default. All they see is "documents" (not "documents.pif"), which they probably assume is a ".zip" file or maybe a ".doc" file. In fact, they don't care what it is, they usually don't have to when there's no visible extension.

    It's actually far worse than that. Windows will still hide the .pif extension even with file extensions turned on. It's one of a few, 4 or 5 I forget how many, file types that Windows WILL NOT show the extension for.

    Try it yourself, turn on show extensions and add a .pif extension to a text file. It won't show the .pif but will change the icon to a shortcut.

    Maybe you should upgrade her off Win95 and IE 4. Mozilla is a great browser and mail client but it's certainly not faster than IE 5.0 or higher or less crash prone.

    Mozilla has enough real technical merits that make it better than IE without making crap up about competitors to make it look better.

    Secondly, as somebody else noted, there is no default scripting ability in Windows.

    That depends on which verision of Windows you're using. Everything since I belive Windows 98 SE has come with WSH (Windows Scripting Host) to run vbscript and javascript.

    Huzzah was used long before there were geeks or geekspeek, it's been used for centuries as a cheer, Hurrah evolved from Huzzah.

    Sirrah is an old term that's rarely used today.

    Why would a site bother giving equal/fair/unbiased coverage of a company which has a monopoly?

    Some would argue that a news site has a duty for fair and unbiased coverage regardless of where the news comes from.

    It's not just a fucking game it's a serious business for Wolfpack where they stand to make or lose large amounts of real money based on the game, it's performance, security, playability etc.

    Some poor kid - if it even is a kid - deserves to have his life wrecked at least temporarily because he knowingly and willfully commiteed a CRIME that may have cost a company thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars.

    The correct statement should be:

    The Keep-Alive header was valid in HTTP 1.0, but has been deprecated in HTTP 1.1. True or False

    By adding "did you know" there isn't a good answer since both True and False are correct depending on who answers the question.

    Tests in school would have been much easier if they all started out with "Did you know...".

    So, software bugs are caused by developers working on software.

    I would say that software bugs seen by end users are the fault of the QA department and/or project management. If the PM's allow untested code to be put on a live server then they're responsible, if it goes through QA and still has obvious blocking bugs the fault lies on QA.

    Everyone writes code with bugs in it, it's the responsibility of QA to find them and see they're fixed before the end user.

    What if it is the boss's computer? About 8 years ago before porn at the workplace became such a big deal we found quite a trove on the boss's system. Apparently he didn't realize that [delete] didn't really delete and the undelete command worked rather well in DOS on a WFW system.

    Our decision at the time was to say nothing and pretend it didn't happen.

    "More often than not"? Really? That hasn't been my experience. In fact, I haven't experienced a single problem due to a Windows update.

    Please give your basis for that statement. How many updates have you installed and how many things have broken because of those updates?

    In my case almost certainly more than you have since I worked on the Windows Update team at MS. I know how well they tested the updates, what kind of things were bugged and not fixed and in general their level of quality control.

    More often than not patchs installed via WU will work fine, but I've seen them cause BSOD that require a reinstall to fix often enough that I don't use it.

    What was that? I missed it. Oh I can replay it thankgoodness. (also pause while answering phone etc.)

    The rest of us on the road are so sorry you've missed the latest tune while gabbing on the phone or whatever 'etc' may be while driving while in the car instead of paying attention to the road.

    Most drivers seem to have enough problems with driving as it is without giving them another set of buttons on the radio to fool around with.

    Nope, it wasn't addictive to me at all. It was a decent game, but it got dull very quickly for me. I only played it for about a week.

    I'm glad the people still playing it finally have this patch though, it sounds like some good things have been added.

    except that not all those companies "sell" free software, they charge for distribution, which is not selling the software.

    A distinction that will likely have to be proven in court if MS loses this lawsuit. You can bet that if MS loses someone will try to sue Redhat, IBM etc for the same reason.

    If someone wants to sell you a commercial product you SHOULD absolutely be able to hold them liable if their product loses you money.

    Even if you lost money because your IT department didn't install a security patch 6 months earlier that fixed the problem?

    If I buy the Redhat Advanced Server, which is a commercial product for them, and lose money 6 months later because I didn't run a patch to close a security hole should I be able to sue Redhat?

    If I bring my tools with me ie..Linux, Apache, MySQL, etc, etc. Then that money comes to me in the form of my skills. Why should the client care what it runs as long as it runs.

    THAT IS WHERE TRUE TCO STARTS.... It takes the same skills to manage MS and Linux..... But the middle man (Microsoft) gets a third of you potential income/revenue....

    That is likely the point of view that MS fears most. When small and medium size business realize they can get the job done without losing that 1/3.
