Very tricky indeed, using their own SMTP at one location to relay their own spam from another location. Solves the problem of them 'finding' open relays. And also makes them appear to be a victim or a stupid user, instead of the actual spammer.
If they already have a pop3.domain-name.com that can be verified, then smtp.domain-name.com's domain name probably already exists.
But this solution would mean individuals might not be able to run an SMTP server on their xDSL connections, etc. I'm guessing many bulk mailers use open relays on unsecured xDSL boxes, or are even sent from these boxes directly. When examining the email headers, I have had many a spam from ****.uu.net broadband customers (among others).
I seem to get a great deal too much spam from China and Korea. I can't even speak Korean.
If I live in a country for 5 years and buy DVD's while there, it is technically illegal to bring them to a country in another zone and change/hack the Region on my DVD player to play it years later. Of course this is to protect the rights of the companies who buy distribution rights for a region. In my country they only _enforce_ the prohibition in retail, and not overseas purchases.
However, what about the company who owns the rights, but won't release the DVD for a year or more because they are re-running the movie at cinemas? I have seen this before, and the DVD is aavailable already in other countries.
What about Macrovision? Doesn't that stop fair use rights to backup the movie (even if it is to lesser quality VHS)?
If people with Nforce/2 motherboards really wanted to use an ATI card under GNU/Linux, google would've found the GART kernel patch. The Linux Kernel guys have had a working patch for a while now. I am getting around 2000fps with an Force2 board and ATI Radeon 9000 AGP on a pc I set up a month ago.
NVidia have had a working NForce2 GART driver for some time, but refused to release it under now. Maybe I am wrong, but it kinda seems like NVidia wanted to delay so that people buy _their_ AGP cards - seeing that the NVidia drivers have built in support for the AGP port on NForce/2 boards?
I use Photoshop at work, but far prefer PaintShopPro 7AE. I find more in PSP for my needs than with Photoshop. GIMP, I didn't have much fun there, however I guess we still to what we know.....
I am glad that there are viable alternatives these days for most tools.
Me too. And with Debian we can even build our own cpu optimized packages if we like simply with dpkg - if we also wish to waste valuable processor hours. Simply put, anything Gentoo does, Debian can do better.

Actually most people who do use Windows will use another media player at some stage. Most users will have at least one of the following installed somewhere along the way: WinAmp, QuickTime, RealPlayer, etc.
What has WinAmp done for many years that WMP doesn't, or only recently has done? For years Winamp has supported skins, playlists, visualizations, etc. Yes, WMP does this, but only long after WinAmp had ruled the market.
WinAmp plays OGG, MOD, S3M, XM, Streaming-mp3 and other formats out of the box, whereas WMP doesn't. Chances are, if you wish to play an audio format that is not that common, Winamp is your tool.

I mean, they are probably just miffed that their lousy copy protection doesn't work. Instead of ensuring their system is robust and bullet proof, they winge in court that anybody can circumvent it. This should really be seen by them as embarrassing.
Alternative for the software manufacturers: Perhaps if the DVD copying software uses the libdvdcss stuff, then it should instead of including it in the package, have a script that will download it from some unnamed country in eastern europe, much like how some Linux dists get around this.;-)
A question about gcc cpu Optimization?

GCC 3.3 Released

With gcc these days is it safe to compile my linux kernel and other stuff optimized for a particular cpu (eg: Athlon K7)? I read somewhere not to do this for the kernel? Grunt, we wants!:-)
If a site distributes copied cd's for _free_ (eg: mp3 files or an iso image) and they are not making any money out of it, then it is still theft. This is no different.
Intellectual property of music is more than just the recording of it. There's the sheetmusic/score/tab as well as lyrics and recordings.
Return the defective CD under his country's consumer rights law. If enough people do this, then the companies might rethink the whole idea. Many people use DVD players as a CD for their stereo systems. Why should a CD not work in them?
What's wrong with XF4.2? Or should I say, what does XF4.3 do that 4.2 don't? Does the need for XF 4.3's cursor shadows outweight the performance drop of reverting to a Geforce2?
Many organizationss have Win2K clients that log into a Domain provided by a Linux box running SAMBA. Once set up properly, it can be a Domain Controller and also replaces many of the other tasks that a 2K Server does, and without the huge license fee for the server (based on the number of clients connecting).

What do people think about DVD Regioning?

Freesco is a single floppy router/dns/dhcp/etc.
Um...aren't they forgetting something? Didn't SCO sell copies of Linux too? Then it should be:
"Legalize Stupidity - Smoke SCO Linux"
"Give Communism A Try - Free SCO Linux"
"Your Son Stole Code & We (SCO) Republished It
"SCO [heart] Software Piracy"
(Or replace the above SCO references with Caldera)

Anyone else reminded of the VHS vs Beta saga?

Either way you look at it, copyright holders are not getting the $$$ that they are legally entitled to.
