I'm thinking they "were fully within the law" because they were "people who were living in the US illegally". They probably have severely limited rights, just like the rest of our criminals. I'm pretty certain there are more than 84 prisoners in our country that have "suffered a pattern of physical and verbal abuse" in jail. We just don't (as a society) give a shit. I'm also going to bet that nearly every civilized nation in the world has similar problems.

I see a number of companies I've worked for ready bring their sensless M$ upgrade policies to a screetching halt with Palladium. This would never happen in OSS. You can't sue M$ because you don't like what they've decided to do with their next round of crap.

I agree with the purpose, I disagree with the method. If you have such severe problems with self control, owning a computer that is too fast is the least of your problems. You should ENJOY getting out and doing college stuff. You should ENJOY learning things, instead of playing stupid-ass games. I was there. I did that. It caused me alot of problems... so I know what he's talking about. However, it's an issue of control... not handicapping your resources to protect you from yourself. Just be aware of what can happen with newfound freedoms. I'm doing college for the second time now, and doing well. It's maturity that helps you know when to fuck around, and when to work.

Yeah, seriously, what does it REALLY take to make a "hacking school". We're not talking about a functional space program here. A few grand, a low speed net connection, and some people willing to work could constitute this "school". I mean, I'm going to bet that most of the kids in our ridiculously wealthy country have a much better foundation, and better resources available to do what they're talking about here. I'm not too concerned.

It doesn't matter if you have free will or not. What matters is that you don't know. Tell me, what's the difference? You may be destined to decide to take the rotten apple tomorrow... but it doesn't matter... because you didn't KNOW you were destined to get the rotten apple. As far as you're concerned, you made a real decision to take that apple. Barring religious ramifications (the contexts of which would make this whole conversation moot), there is no real difference. In fact, knowing would only be torture. I'm sure everyone has seen movies and TV shows that illustrate that.
