Actually I think he ment dual-dual core processors as in replace the single cores with dual cores in a dual processor system.
So for a grand total of 4 cores.
That could be fun.
Run 4 things of SETI@home or UD.
Burn 4 dvd's at the same time.
Open 4 videos at the same time.
Ok 5 minutes later I'm bored can I have my $7000 back now apple?

These would be better suited for the classic "gate guard" with 100-200lb payload you could put quit a bit of armor on that guy. That and a 30-50lb weapon. The intimidation factor would be very high.
GE makes a very small CFL bulb that fits in standard sized sockets. It's actually small than those. No-one from what I've seen has come out with a model for the smaller socket standards.
The fuel tax is a conflict in interest on the part of the gov't. On one hand they say be more efficient and the other if you do you end up causing tax revenue to drop.
Sounds like your buidling suffers from a poorly designed system. Every entrance to a room as a sensor above it, but the the system still has quirks. If you sit too still eventually all the lights go out. To be funny all you have to do is raise your arms above your head and announce dramatically "Let there be light!" and they pop back on.
The facility I work at spends ball park around 1,000,000$ a month for electricity, after the threat of black outs during the big hype (California) they started shutting down anything they could get their hands on. After noticing a healthy reduction in the bill they put out a contract to install these things everywhere. So I guess somewhere someone liked the idea. It's an ongoing process mind you they've been doing a room a week for the last 2 years.
Yeah I wasn't really talking about American SUV, though it looks like they'll be jumping on the bandwagon very soon as well. Take a look at Toyota and Honda's line up looks like their first out of the gate trying to noticeably boost their mpg for vehicles not normally known for fuel economy (suvs & trucks) as well as a larger commitment to hybrides.
I thought about that many years ago, and realized the trap to that line of thinking. Is it easier just to tell everyone to change the clocks, or would it be easier to have everyone change or add to all the signage and printed material around the country with the new hours?
Personally I'd rather just have the whole world switch to Zulu (GMT) and be done with it. As companies get more and more global they are going to it anyway.
That may be true of older flourescents, but it is not necessarily so for the modern ones. Besides its a simple matter of requiring all new buildings to have either a timer system or motion control system installed during major renovation or initial construction. It's inexpensive and has a measureable return.
Because SUV are not at the heart of the problem. Auto use represents less than half the oil consumed, and SUV represent an even smaller persentage of that piece. The majority of oil is consumed for heating and generating electricity.
SUV's are an easy target, but it's kind of like blaming firearms for lots of deaths while ignoring the fact that junk food and incompetent doctors kill over 12x's the number annually.
Go for the $1 solution that gives a $100 reward. If you want to see a huge impact on our total enegery use all they would have to do is ban the good ol incadecent light bulb. It can be done without destroying the heavy manufacturing companies profits, which in any country are sacred cows so it will never happen.
Take it to the next step and all new buildings have at least 100watts or the equivalent of some sort of renewable energy integrated into them. (Inertie solar, solar hot water, or small factor windmill). At the current rate of new home building it would be like taking 40,000 off the grid a year, bump it up to 1000-5000watts and now you'd see a noticeable impact.
The SUV fuel economy is taking care of itself, especially as fuel keeps climbing up. Take a look at some of the manufacturers and you can already see them trying to boost the MPG along without sacrificing all the power people want.
I read the licensing agreement when I first signed up for/. and no where does it state that I have to actually read the articles or any of the posts before posting something enlightening, funny, factual (a very rare thing here), annoying, or just plain stupid.
I see you are having difficulty making ego's would you like some help with your new toaster.
Announced last week major electronic manufactures have announced the new brain controlled televisions and cable.
Though a spokesman one company said there're would some diffculties for the public in general since it's a known law of physics that one must by at least 5% smarter than the device that one is trying to use. He did comment one postitive note that the general stupidity of people everywhere would not hamper the roll out of the lastest brain controled toasters.
This is why I stopped working on computers, because most of the time people expect it for free or near free. The look at you crazy after you spend half the day get them up and running again (I freakin hate Dell's) it's like you are trying to rob them. Even working on PC I've built for others.
Please stay off the porn sites, back up your files and your pictures, write down your passwords and login info, flash games & software is not free don't install any claiming to be so, do not download any desktop themes, don't click on pop ups, update your virus checker and resubscribe when it expires, clean out the dust once in a while, and for God's sake leave the damn firewall on and don't turn the auto updates off.
6 months - year later they've done everything just the opposite and are looking for me to save all the files they can't live without.
My mom is on her 3rd computer and finally does the above religiously. I guess after lossing 2 years worth of grandchildren's pictures finally made her see the light. (I had them backed up but I made her sweat it out for a while before I gave them back to her.)
A properly set up computer will work just fine for years, it's typically the keyboard & mouse actuator system that is faulty.
Mrs Delarco, I told you to quit stalking me. I passed 7th grade English and swore to go no farther. I have no use for all that fancy spelling and junk.
We had that problem in South Dakota. No DSL, no cable modems, 28.8 dial-up due to mixed ancient and modern POTS and nothing in the near future to be seen.
The power company ran an end game on both the telco's and cable.
They already had right of way to every home in a 6 or so state area. So what did they do to expand their revenues, they laid fiber everywhere. $100 a month got you a phone, cable, and one hellatious internet connect. Both cable and the telco tried the typical methods to stop them.
Stop selling backbone service too them when they figured out what they were doing. They expanded their network into another region and bought service from another telco.
Then petition the FCC for breach of rules. Turn out the power company is neither a cable company nor a phone company and cannot be regulated by the FCC, nor did they fall under all the archaic local and regular long distance rules so became free local calling on their network.
What was the end result to all of this? Not crappy, limited service like we had before.
Both the cable company and the telco rapidly deployed their services, that were always going to be offered "next year" to keep from being pushed out of the market.
I say they need to set some standards on how to provide 911 service and basic rules, such as phone number and customer rights, then get the hell out of way. Instead we get these goofy rules on who can provide what to who, and having to share your networks which seem to do nothing more than slow the whole process of improving service and inovating down to a crawl while maximizing profits for the few that have a choke hold on the system.
I don't have a problem with DRM persay, what I do have a problem with is when companies try to use said DRM to create artificial closed markets, such as regions for DVD, so that they can play what the market will bare game or a licencing/DRM scheme that forces you to use their hardware with no other options to view their media (Sony, Apple, etc..) For the last reason specifically I refuse to buy into most of the latest popular ways of delivering content (sat, cable, Apple, Sony).
I am no longer the poor college student so I do see the need to pay for artists and companies that put out excellent products. I always buy my favorite singers CD's, and love getting my hands on a really good movie. For the rest I make it a point to make sure they don't get my money or that of anyone I know. The local library has a nice collection of crapy DVD's that I given them over the years. Anyone can go out and "rent" them any time they like.
The iPod already embodies many of these concepts, in a simple way, that's why it's so successful. Take your music anywhere...
Ipod is a work of dark magic and Steve Jobs is the Devil. At least Bill Gates doesn't pretend to be anything than other than what he is.
I could already take my music anywhere easily and movies too, and have for years, long before Ipod came around. Of course if the corporate world could have a final say I could do the same, but only in the appropriate licensed format and for a small (in their minds) monthly fee.
The Ipod in its unhacked for is simply a media player for the yuppy crowd, which is to say it is overpriced and inflexable.
Ipod is so successful for one reason only, lot's of $$ being spent on marketing, a near monopoly on downloadable content, and ease of use for the techno illiterate.
AOL used to sing the same tune, man look at the quality product they put out these days.
But can I play/modify what ever games I want, run what ever software I want, use digital media any way I want?
No you say....
I'll stick with my "sick PC" thank you very much
All those thing sound very nice, much like a super model girl friend, but she sounds expensive, very high maitenance, and a big prude to boot.
My plain Jane girl next door is a cheap date, flexible, and a freak, but the best part is she won't get upset if I upgrade to a newer model without the express permission and licensing from her parents.
I see you master's degree and raise you a Dr in BS. Seeing this is a chat site and doesn't actually mean anything to anyone, no reason to start spouting off degrees real or imagined.
I will acknowledge that merit does occassionally mean something in this world, but to say it's the only thing factored then you my friend are living in the same world you claim that I'm inhabiting. I've spent enough time in the achedemic community to know that it is just as or more full of shit as people are anywhere else. The good ol' boy (and girl)network is alive and well. Who you know and having influence/opportunity (aka $$'s) goes a long way, much further that merit at times.
I might suggest a few psyc classes to round out your education it seems to be lacking a bit else you would realized a few things.
One being rude will never win you an argument or change people minds.
Two acting superior by waving a degree in someone's face, less one you can pick up in your spare time taking evening classes (get it evening classes?), will gain you nothing but scorn. Here let me throw mine out there too. Associates in Aero Science, Pro Aero Bachlor's, working on my Master's in Space Ops, Private Pilot's license soon to start on my commercial rating, and let's not forgot the most important ones, my 3 scuba certifications. Hmmm so what does that all mean?....not a whole hell of a lot.
To be honest I have no background in astronomy shy of reading here and there, but unlike you and all your Master's degree has done for you, I know when someone is baiting me on purpose, and the simple truth that the Hubble is going to end up in the Pacific sooner than later unless something drastically changes in the next year or two.
But that's ok, the Hubble accomplished it's real mission, it got people interested again. If you would get a clue you'd realize that. You'd also realize that with all this new interest it will be easy for them to get the money to build you a shiny new toy to play with, and that my friend is what I'm looking forward to. If they just keep nursing all the old programs along what am I ever going to get out of this Space Ops degree I'm wasting all my time on?
I hate to tell you you already pay a few $$ per episode of "free" tv even if you pick it up over the air ways.
Some companies spend up to and over 25% of their operating costs just on advertising. So think of that the next time you buy a case of Pepsi or Coke from the store for $8-10.
I just keep buying larger monitors as I go. For my use it works just fine
THe external hardrive is just my "High Bandwidth" solution for file sharing. It safe, it's private and can move 300gb in the span of 1-3 days, to just about anywhere in the country:) (US Postal Service)
I reserve the right to be an idiot and to point out others who are being one as well.
Don't believe me go read a few journals and see who the big opponents in the science community are. They just happen to be the same scientists that having been dipping into the Hubble fountain for a while now.
Well because a very nice copper router and cabling will cost you next to nothing compaired to fiber.
We run fiber at work, but it's only to connect out lying buildings for distance and security, and for some of the longer runs inside. Inside on the short runs you can find anything from coax (they won't throw nothing away, it's insane) to 1000bT.
Why not run over copper, it's fast it's cheap and until it exhausts it's limits or fiber becomes a whole lot cheaper and easier to work with then it will still be king.
So for a grand total of 4 cores.

I agree with you completely, that program was simply a bone being thrown to political supporters of the current administration.

Most people don't drive a diesel locamotive to work.

That's nice, but we had somthing different in mind.
No delivery = no money for marketers = no ads for us.
